Little House on the Prairie Museum - History museum in Independence - 2507 CR, 3000 Rd, USA

You know, it's just cool. Amazing that this is the actual site of their prairie house, and the well that Pa and Mr. Edward's dug is still there. In the little giftshop/museum there is a picture of Mr. Edward's and some information about him. Loved putting a face to a name. We enjoyed the extra buildings they have as well, as they give you a good example of what life was like in that place and time.

It is closed for the winter, but it was still a wonderful little walk around that brought back precious memories of reading all of Wilder's books

We had a lovely visit to the homestead museum. We always enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie. To see the homesite in person was awesome. If you’re a fan, check it out.

Important to know up front: This museum has seasonal opening and closing times, and the building are closed from the late fall/autumn through to the spring. But unlike some others, which means no access, they leave the gate open, and you can wander around the whole complex - staying outside the whole time, of course - which is still worth the time and effort of getting there. Additionally, going in the early winter, as I did, meant that I was literally ALONE there, which was very atmospheric! I could see the buildings, look through the windows (and for the one-room log cabin, you can see most of it from outside), and of course see the well that Pa dug. I have no regrets going even in the off season, though of course it would have been fun to see everything in more detail and visit the little shop.

Although we showed up 10 minutes before they closed, the lady in the giftshop patiently allowed us to look at all the great souvenirs they sell. We paid our fee to look inside all the buildings and she gave us enough time to look at all of them. Very cool feeling looking out over the rolling hills that Laura's family once looked upon. By the way, you CAN access the exterior of the buildings, wagons, markers, etc, even after closing time. There are instructions on site to pay after hours. It was definitely worth the detour to see the old post office, the school house, and the hand dug well that was likely dug by Charles Ingles himself. Included a few photos, but not all. You gotta see it for yourself.

Finally marking this one off of the Bucket List. Arrived for sunrise. Happy to see the honor system here for us early risers! Well worth $5 for a walk around waiting on the sun.

Unbelievable experience! I watch this show as a kid and just happen to stumble across the farm in my travels. Recommend for bucket list to any 70’s kid!!!!😎😎😎

What a surprisely wonderful excursion. Definitely should check it out if you are/were a fan of Little House on the Prairie and/or Laura Ingalls Wilder. The kids even loved it. The store was filled with so much and the lady there was extremely helpful.
