Looking for top-notch martial arts training? Look no further than Lindamood's in Roanoke. Both my sons trained, for many years, with Bobby and Michelle, through Snyder's. You simply cannot find a more professional group of martial artists... They NEVER stop progressing their skills to bring more and more knowledge to their students. Whether you're looking for a mental workout, self-defense, or physical fitness, Lindamood's will deliver. Do yourself a favor and go pay them a visit and bring your kids! Mine thoroughly enjoyed the over 13 years of their training, guidance, and friendship.

The Community: If you are new to martial arts, and are worried about "fitting in" or "feeling like an outsider," stop worrying...this is the place for you. On the other hand, if you're an experienced martial artist, there's plenty for you here as well. On my first visit, I was greeted immediately and made to feel like I belonged. I quickly noticed the camaraderie amongst the students. In every aspect of class, from the warm-ups, to the forms, to the sparring, everyone was included. Old, young, male, female, white belt, black belt... everyone participated, and each student helped the next one. Instructors had tremendous patience with brand-new six-year-old white belts, as well as older folks who needed to take things at their own pace. All were challenged, but no one was overcome. There seemed to be a special emphasis on making things fun for the younger ones, while encouraging them to progress. Separate classes are offered for adults and children, but on Saturdays all can attend together. The Program: On my first night at Lindamood's, the school had flown in a special instructor to hold a seminar on Eskrima, a Filipino martial art emphasizing fighting with, and defending against, sticks, knives and other weapons. This was in addition to the usual martial arts studied there, which include taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I saw a determined effort here to produce well-rounded students. Students can compete if they wish, and the school travels as a team to multiple competitions each year. The Owners/Instructors: This is a local, family-run business, and the lead instructors are a husband-wife team, Bobby and Michelle Lindamood. Bobby Lindamood is a 6th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor, which isn't something you see at every school. Michelle is a 4th Degree Senior Black Belt. Their son, Taylor, who is a 4th Degree Black Belt, also teaches and is a tremendous asset to the school. Bobby is ranked in other disciplines in addition to taekwondo. The Bottom Line: You can try a class for free. I'd recommend you do! Stop by, meet the owners and other students, ask your questions, take a shot. There was a sign on the wall in the workout area. It said: "Tenets of Taekwondo: Courage, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit." I suspect those might also be the operating principles of Lindamood's Martial Arts, as well.

I’ve been taking the adult kickboxing classes for a little while now. I’m far from in shape but have significantly improved over my tenure. Master Lindamood is a brilliant instructor. He provides personal and customized instruction and an incredibly welcoming environment. Regular training sessions also include bits of knowledge and history about the sport all while sharpening technique and fitness. Safety is always a priority.

Obviously the best martial arts school in the entire Roanoke Valley. Bobby is an excellent teacher, trainer, and coach. Both him and Michelle run a top notch outfit that is clean and well maintained, and can get you where you need to be while challenging you.

My children have been coming to Master Lindamood for 5 years for Taekwondo and now jiu jitsu and have learned so much. He is very knowledgeable and provides top notch instruction. He is a wonderful teacher and great with kids. He also recently provided a self defense class for an all girls youth organization we are a part of. The class was very informative, practical, and provided so much “hands on” practice. We all benefitted so much. I highly recommend Master Lindamood’s Academy!
