Spent a couple days there this week while visiting my wife's hometown. Remembered what it was like to tear up the trails in cross country at MCHS. There are some great loops to enjoy with the kids and a nice conservation office. My favorite trails are still the River trail that goes all the way to Mason and the Quarry Loop.
Great place for a morning walk. The River Bluff trail was nice and the Prairie Loop was cool. Several different types of trails to choose from. I saw three deer, several squirrels. There were tons of unique Bird calls also. The nature center was decent, but didn't see a lot of information for children's activities.
Long ago I helped to dig out the old brewery, removed a medical dump (yep scary), pulled out tons and tons of cardboard dumping site that was in a small pound there, and cut open many of the trails as part of a conservation group. I went on to do many other things in Lime Creek alone in 83 and was my last year there. Walking it used to bring back memories of days long gone... It is a good place that teenagers did allot there to bring you what you see today, even handing blocks to construction workers who built the nature center. I worked many other parks in my time for Cerro Gordo County Conservation, but Lime Creek, I did a major chunk. Please enjoy it because a bunch of kids really worked hard to bring a lot to that park. As an adult, I used to go there to walk the trials I helped to open and cross country ski remembering when I once groomed those runs.. A time I hope to never forget...
79 to 83...
Very nice display of wildlife. Walked the Easy Access Trail with my 5 year-old and saw some cool bluffs. The other trails look interesting as well.
Great park. Tons of space. You can hike, bike, run, or ride horses. Pretty easy to spend a few hours exploring. Well maintained and not too crowded.
Lime Creek is definitely always such an amazing place to go out and just dive into nature. The miles of trails thoughout the forest is breath taking, literally if your a biker, jogger or like to do some hiking. Dont think summer time is the only time to get out if you like winter time the trails are groomed so nicely for cross country skiing. Its all around just an amazing outdoor endeavor. As amazing could get around cities
I have loved this place since I was a kid. They have primitive camp sites also for $5 a night and they will give you some fire wood with it. Last time I was there they didn't take it to the campsite for me so it stayed in the trunk of my car. A mile walk out with wood and my gear is to much to carry.
Such a cool place to visit! Plenty of parking and picnic tables. Great place to go with the family. The nature center is really cool and has lots to explore, plenty to keep kids entertained.
The trails are well maintained. We did the river bluffs trail which was just gorgeous! Great time to go now with all the leaves changing colors.
There are many other trails as well, great for hiking, mountain biking, or riding horses!
