The first thing that we noticed about this B&B was the obvious must odor that permeated the entire house. We were told that locking the outside doors was left up to the guests! Last one in? The room was reasonably clean but missing some amenities. One night there was a nice touch of hand-made soap for the shower - the next it was missing and no substitute provided. There was a lack of any place to put toiletries in the bathroom so we moved towels to a rack to make room for things. The next day those towels were moved onto our bed. TV was old and poorly located for comfortable viewing from the bed. The chair in the room was horribly low to the floor making it difficult to get out of. Breakfast wasn't started - until ALL guests in the B&B arrived. Coffee went first to the inn keeper & others waited until a new pot was brewed. Trees were growing from the gutters - bags of mulch were left laying around the yard. All in all this property hasn't been kept up well and we learned that the owner was going to be selling the property at the end of the season.

I have to say that this B & B was the worst that I have ever experienced. This is primarily due to the pervading stench of mold and mildew. After a day of touring there was a feeling of dread to have to experience that smell again. Returning home our clothing and suitcases reeked. There is certainly a moisture issue in the home which makes one wonder how healthy it is to spend time there. Members of our group have breathing issues and I was concerned for their health. The smell permeated the worn bedding and flat pillows. The moisture in the basement required a sump pump that made sleeping difficult for those in the downstairs room. The owner was kind enough to turn off the pump, but then left the basement door open all night, an open invitation for animals to invade. Not able to stand the stench, we left before breakfast the second day. I regret that having to do this upset the innkeeper who was a very nice person; however, she really needs to look into the moisture and possible mold issue.||||While the furnishings were old and the rugs and bedding worn and dated, that is not as much of an issue as the overall uncleanliness of the home. We paid entirely too much to experience musty smells and dusty rooms.

The location is great and the innkeeper very personable and sweet and did leave cheese (Laughing Cow & BabyBel) and French wine each evening and cookies after dinner however that was not enough to overcome the negatives. You could say I was disgruntled because I spent over $500 for 2 nights but I really wanted to like it. I genuinely feel bad and believe the innkeeper may be in over her head trying to manage the inn and another job and probably could use some assistance. As soon as you walk in the door you know you are in an old home by the overwhelming musty and dusty smell. The bar of soap in the downstairs powder room was dried out and black with mold in the cracks. Some of the headboards looked like they were repurposed outdoor furniture cushions. There was dust and cobwebs throughout the house but in particular behind the beds and under the furniture. The front porch and the windows were covered with cobwebs and dirt. It is in the country so you expect a few bugs but it still freaks you out to kill them in your bedroom. The piece of soap in our in suite bathroom was nicely tied in a little ribbon but it was clearly cut from a larger bar of soap. Thrifty and less waste but tacky. The bedding was old and the pillows flat. The innkeeper cooked breakfast the next morning and boasted about it all being local ingredients. My Chobani yogurt (which IS made in NY State so technically loca) had expired 13 days earlier. The homemade bread had been stored in the fridge and she toasted it in a frying pan on the stove top. The tomatoes and onions for the frittata had been cooked the day before and left uncovered in the frying pan in the refrigerator. A bag of ice melted in the freezer because it was malfunctioning. The dishwasher was rusted on the inside. The water in the basement made it an unhealthy environment in the house. After the second night everyone was done and we all just wanted to escape but not before the innkeeper finally came around 8:15 and screamed at all of us that she knew we were unhappy and would never be able to please us. There was one final upside and that was she put it all on my credit card and I did not have to pay half in cash as she had requested when she confirmed the reservation (because the credit card fees are so high). The inn is in a convenient location and has a great deal of potential and the innkeeper is probably doing the best she can but I can't recommend it.

Staying at other B&B's and comparing them to La Petit Chateau Inn it does need some TLC. As stated, an old farmhouse that in person looks a bit different from the website. Valerie, the owner was very sweet and extremely helpful but the property needs some work. The breakfasts are plain and contrary to the website are not made by CIA students. Valerie made breakfast each morning. Our room was clean and the bathroom modern. Updating the draperies and bedding would definitely be a major improvement.

Le Petit Chateau Bed & Breakfast in Hyde Park, NY is a spacious historic house on forty acres providing a tranquil setting with beautiful views of the Hudson Valley. All of the rooms have a private immaculate bath, fireplace, and all electronic amenities. after a restful night in this classic Inn, enjoy a delicious organic morning meal. The Inn keeper is very friendly and helpful offering excellent advice on the many local restaurants and historic tours. This a favorite B&B in the Hudson Valley ideally located about a quarter mile from the Culinary Institute and a mile from the Roosevelt Center. Highly recommended as the perfect BB experience in the Hudson Valley.

My siblings scheduled a weekend in Hyde park, NY with reservations at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) on Friday and Saturday nights. I had one request that we stay as close as possible to the CIA, not wishing to have lengthy drive after a great meal. Two people in our party of 8 found this B&B within a mile of the CIA. We arrived on Friday afternoon receiving a warm greeting from the proprietor who promptly left the property. In the first half-hour it became apparent that the property did not meet our B&B expectations. Since no one checked the B&Bs Trip Advisor reviews before making our reservations this was our first task. To our surprise there were a significant number of excellent reviews and a number of terrible reviews. I will not comment on the excellent reviews but state we took pictures to support this review. The proprietor advertised this as a French farm house that is a good description for marketing purposes . However, the proprietor calling the property a French farm house does not make it a French farm house. Rather, this is a tired old property not well maintained or cleaned. Some of the following comments echo the other terrible reviews and are in stark contrast to the excellent reviews. This property has 137 Trip Advisor reviews; 128 reviews are from 2014 and prior; of the 128 reviews 99 were excellent (71) and very good (28). There is a noticeable gap in reviews between 2014 and today. The property's living and dining rooms have a noticeable moth ball musty odor. The door leading into the basement had a towel laid vertically on the floor tp block the space between the floor and the bottom of the door. The odor was coming from the basement. The furniture was dated with most of the cushioned seats sagging almost to the floor level. The down stairs bedroom the bed head board is an outdoor chaise lounge chair cushion. The bed head board in a second floor bedroom is two outdoor chair cushions. The bedroom TVs are old box TVs that are no longer sold commercially. The TVs are not well placed within the bedrooms making it difficult to watch TV at night. for example one TV is on top of tall cabinet across the room from the bed. None of the bedroom furniture matched , bedding appeared old and pillow flat. A second floor bathroom toilet was not flushed necessitating a cleaning that should have been performed by the proprietor after the last guest checked out. One second floor night stand had a used container of ASTROGLIDE instead of a bible. There was a general feeling the proprietor does not thoroughly inspect and clean the bed and bath rooms after each guest. There is an old box TV in the second floor sitting room with a VHS player and a number of dated VHS tapes. Two of the rooms wall lights did not work. The porch ceilings are dirty with visible cobwebs. The windows are dirty. We found the kitchen floor and one counter dirty. The refrigerator/freezer did not to be functioning properly. The freezer had a plastic container of sugar, open container of half-half and an empty pot and bowel. On Saturday afternoon the dishwasher was left open. The dishwasher white basket has numerous black spots. The kitchen sink cabinet lacked a door exposing the plumbing. The proprietor left an uncovered plate of bake goods on the counter overnight. A centipede racing across the dining room floor made the baked goods unappealing. There is a loud noise in the first floor bedroom caused by a basement sump pump that is operating constantly. On Saturday morning the couple occupying the bedroom complained to the proprietor that the noise kept them up all night, The proprietor promised to and did turn the sump pump off , The proprietor also left the outdoor basement entrance door open overnight. We believe this was to air out the basement. On Saturday afternoon we looked in the basement from the outdoor entrance to determine the reason for the first floor odor. The basement floor was wet so we did not venture into the basement. We just took pictures. There is a pond immediately to the right of the property. we believe the building sit on a high water table necessitating the sump pump in an attempt to keep the basement dry. We purchased a summer house on a lake that sits on a high water table. We hired contractors to seal the basement walls and floor and to install two sump pumps to cure the same problems we believe plague this property. On Saturday morning the proprietor fixed breakfast consisting of a few pieces of toast, some cut fruit and a frittata, The toast was made in a fry pan since the kitchen does not have a toaster. The frittata for 8 people was prepared in a medium size pan that looked like a thin crust pizza. We debated at Saturday night dinner whether to stay for Sunday breakfast. We decided not to stay for breakfast because of a dirty kitchen and questionable refrigeration equipment. We called the proprietor on Sunday morning indicating we were leaving and requested our bills. The proprietor arrived about 8:00AM visibly upset yelling about a lack of communication stating she hired a chef to prepare breakfast. The proprietors comments appear to be a money issue. We pointed out that she would have incurred the cost of a chef had we stayed for breakfast. At that point the proprietor started yelling louder stating this was the first time anyone had a complaint about the property, At that point her comments prompted me to state there were negative internet reviews on the property. The proprietor continued to yell stating she could care less about reviews and stormed out the front door. This property is in a great location. The proprietor has a good concept but bad execution. I would not recommend this B&B even if there is a significant price reduction. Lastly I suspect the proprietor may well dispute this review that is why we took photos to support this evaluation.

I'm sorry to say I was seduced by the Inn's website, which promises a luxurious and delightful stay. What I found in reality was roadside motel ambience at high-end B&B prices.||||Upon entering the inn, the first thing that struck me was a musty, mildewy smell that permeated the house. Next were the furnishings in the common areas that looked like the kind of hand-me-downs one would find in a recent college grad's first apartment.||||The bedroom was worse. A tired mattress, worn sheets pillow cases, and stained pillows greeted me when I entered. The chest of drawers had a broken drawer and looked like a piece of furniture Goodwill would trash.||||After these first impressions, I loaded my suitcases back into the car and went to a local Marriott for my stay. If you want to stay in a romantic B&B near the Hudson and aren't committed to Hyde Park, I recommend the Mount Merino Manor in Hudson, NY, about 45 minutes North on 9G.

First of all, Andy was terrific. He met us on arrival, and was available to answer most any question. His local roots were a big plus. That being said, we were a bit disappointed with the overall presentation of the inn. Everything was clean, but seemed a bit worn. We stayed in the Champagne room, which was a large room, but no real warmth. The bedding was clean, but a bit tired. Breakfast was simply scrambled eggs or an omelette, with diced potatoes. Andy did all the cooking, and did well, but based on the website, we were expecting a higher level of breakfast. There was also a plate of some sliced fruit, yogurt, and biscuits. I don't know if this inn belongs in the $200+ per night category.
