Lazy "U" Motel - Motel in Rapid City - 2215 Mt Rushmore Rd, USA

You know those movies you see, where there's the cheap motel that's still over priced, the room is about the size of a walk- in closet, and you're amazed if everything works in there? Even though it's a motel, you can clearly tell who's been living there for the past 3 years, and anytime you go outside your room, you know you're better off making it quick and not engaging with anyone because one way or another you'll end up regretting it if you do. And if you're old enough, this might even remind you a little of those rooms that had the quarter operated bed massage. Yeah...

We have been staying at this hotel for years when it was under Cindy and Verlyn's watch. It was a wonderful experience then, as they were very conscientious and kept the rooms clean. There was always coffee and rolls available at the desk and they were almost always available if you needed them. Not anymore!|First off, the desk is closed, and you have to call if you need to check in or out or need him for anything. Secondly, when we checked in, the room still had food in the fridge and there was trash on the floor under the table. |The last straw was not getting our $200 deposit refunded until I called two weeks later to let them know it wasn't on my bank statement. He took care of it right away and apologized, but after everything else, we'll never stay there again. It's too bad, as it was a nice place to stay and a great price.

So it was hailing out and I asked the front desk clerk if I could park under the awning (the motel was quite vacant) and he was so nice and said ok. I went to the salon next door and said if I needed to move it I could give him my number and he said it was ok and no worries. I wasn't blocking anything and they could've knocked if so. I was there for 2 hours of services and no knock. When I came out an angry and aggressive Asian woman started screaming at me to move my car immediately. That I couldn't park there and they weren't held liable for damages. I tried to explain that her front desk clerk (who was walking away quickly, not giving me eye contact) said it was ok. She kept screaming, no! No! Move your car! Move your car!. She got very close to me screaming and very hostile. I told her she didn't have to scream at me, that I was moving my car and I would have never without permission. Her husband then yelled just leave and then she yelled just leave and never come back. Get out of here! Even if I wasn't a hotel guest, there was NO REASON to treat anyone like this and so rudely. I was not blocking anybody. 1-2 cars max were in the parking lot and perhaps your employee could take responsibility for the actions he took a few hours prior. He was so nice. These owners are terrifying and awful. Even the salon owner was shocked and scared at her actions.

Older motel, if you are in a pinch for a better priced room for the night, it will do the trick.. we rented 2 rooms. Air was a bit stale coming in but the a/c unit fixed that pretty quick.. beds were comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Lot do road noice especially during Sturgis rally but that is the nature of the location..

If your in a pinch for a cheap room this place is alright. My only real complaint would be the cleanliness of the room. There were a number of flies in the room, and the bathroom floor was quite dirty. Otherwise the beds were comfy and the AC worked fine. The wifi also didn't reach our room, but that wasn't a big deal as cell reception was solid.

Lazy U Motel is centrally located in the Black Hills. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and very clean. This motel will be my “go-to-place” on my future trips to Rapid City. The staff was friendly, courteous, and professional.

I have no idea how this place has such a high rating on Google. The room was smaller than my dorm room in college. It's very dated. Extremely poor lighting in the room. Parking lot is very cramped. Bathroom is tiny and again very dated. The biggest issue is the sink and tub were ridiculously slow draining. The bathroom was clean but as soon as you take a shower the water comes up to your calves and then a bunch of hair and gunk comes up from the drain leaving you standing in filth. I would only stay here again if it was the last bed in town. The prices are cheaper than other hotels in Rapid City, but it's more like a $40 a night motel.

We stayed 3 months and got to know the owners. We have a 2yr old and he makes lots of noise but never got a complaint from our neighbors. Our price was pretty low for extended stay. The room had everything we needed medium size refrigerator, microwave and table. Although we got our room clean weekly, I was welcomed to borrow the vacuum to clean our room. The housekeeper was friendly and I am going to miss her. We had a wonderful stay away from home!
