We stayed in Candy's Attic on a trip to Mankato for our 20th anniversary. The house is gorgeous, the room is lovely and comfortable, and the owner is friendly and helpful. I had been worried about renting the attic room since my husband is 6'2", but the sloped ceilings were not a problem. The room felt spacious with plenty of high ceiling area, a large bathroom, a cozy seating area, and lots of natural light. The room also has a small balcony that was the perfect place to enjoy our coffee in the morning. The house is located in a nice neighborhood of historic homes and it was a pleasant 10 minute walk to the restaurant where we had dinner.
I stayed with a group of friends while we were working on a volunteer project. The common areas were comfy and gave us a great place to get some work done and also have some fun. The breakfast items were delicious. It was so beautifully kept up - clean and homey. But the best part was my room - Candy's attic. I would have my morning coffee in the sitting area and my afternoon bath in the lovely oversized tub near the little balcony that gives a lovely view of the rooftops of the neighborhood. It was heaven!
My friends and I rented the Laven House for a working weekend and had a simply gorgeous experience! The house is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. Homemade baked goods magically appeared each morning, as we made coffee to our exact specifications using the Keurig machines in almost every room. Five of us stayed in four bedrooms, and each one of us believed that our room was the best one. 🩷 We're already planning next year's visit!!
We enjoyed our evening at the Laven House. It was perfectly located in walking distance to great food! We stayed in Theresa’s study on the main floor with a lovely claw foot tub. We enjoyed coffee in the living room and fresh banana bread for breakfast. Looking forward to staying at the Moulin Rouge in September!
My friends and I rented the entire Laven House for a working weekend in "Deep Valley" and could not have loved it more. Beautiful and luxurious, without being so fancy that it made us nervous! Comfortable and comforting (Shelley referred to the kitchen as "the land of magically appearing baked goods" – and we're still swooning over the homemade rhubarb cake with strawberry-rhubarb compote!), with soft sheets, plenty of plushy chairs and seating areas, soft lamplight, and ceiling fans. Plenty of room for all of us to have needed "alone time" – and gorgeous communal areas to invite pals over for cocktails! We had a perfectly grand experience and cannot recommend the Laven House highly enough.
I was lucky enough to stay in Candy's Attic while I was in Mankato for some meetings. The pre-arrival communication was so clear including helpful suggestions about the area. The room is super spacious and quirky in a good way--with angled ceilings and lots of little nooks. The bed was comfy and I loved having the window open with the scent of the blooming lilac bush beneath the window. I will definitely stay here again the next time I am in Mankato.
We stayed in the Douglas Rooms and we found both rooms quite spacious and comfortable. We loved how close the Laven House was to the Betsy-Tacy walking tour and to downtown Mankato. The breakfasts were delicious—especially the Sunday brunch at the Moulin Rouge! The hosts were extremely thoughtful and we appreciated all the little details that made our stay more comfortable. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
My daughter and I stayed in the Douglas rooms. A wonderfully restored house, very comfortable, lots of privacy. We felt very much at home with the great service and all the modern conveniences in a house that celebrates the past in a loving way.
One of the best açaà places Iâve ever been. Incredible selection. I got the Blue Bay and it was delicious & super filling. Staff was really friendly, place was clean, easy 5/5.
First time in Mankato, and this is the first cafe I visited while waiting for my nephew taking ACT test at a high school nearby. Love the ambience here, very artistic. Great coffee & delicious breakfast. The breakfast burritos (with sour cream and sa

Was in town for the River Valley 100. Event started and finished here. Had a long drive ahead of me so I ordered a 4 pack of the Norselander DDH IPA to go. It's as good a beer as I've ever had. Folks working here were kind and friendly. Tap room
