Lamp Lighter Inn - Bed & breakfast in Carmel-By-The-Sea - S.E. Corner of Ocean Avenue &, Camino Real, USA

My wife and our dog had a lovely stay here last month. It is in the perfect spot in Carmel, just up from the main beach and in the center of town. Park once and walk everywhere! This was a last minute stay for us and the staff were super accommodating and kind. We had a lovely room with a fireplace, sitting area and even a fenced patio and yard with a hose for our pup after the beach! The bed is cozy, the amenities and bathroom was pristine and a great bonus is the continental breakfast that you get in the morning. We would stay here again if we are back in lovely Carmel.

There are some nice rooms here - but there are some not so nice rooms.||We have the Katydid cottage. It was so small we could not open our suitcases. It has no air con and so it was really hot and uncomfortable. The bathroom was tiny and poorly appointed.||The main concern was security. The stable door on the room was not secure and the windows were slatted glass - easy to remove. One pane was broken. There is no safe.||The slatted windows, poorly secured stable door and thin walls meant we had no peace and no privacy. The main road is six feet away and the seating for guests in the garden was outside our room. ||Breakfast is eaten in the garden, but it was ok.||The staff were not that helpful - especially as they took the limited number of guest parking spaces forcing us to find a space on a side street. ||Not a great stay - It’s California in August - you need air con!

A great place to stay in Carmel. The location is very close to the beach and in the middle of it all with respect to shopping, eating, socializing in the Carmel downtown core. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable. The hotel is a conversion from an old large house so it is not purpose built as a hotel - some quirks are to be expected. Loved the fire place and the ability to light a fire in the evening (if visiting in winter this is a unique feature of the rooms).

These beautiful cottages are wonderfully located with an easy walk to town or the beach. As a family of four it was great place to base ourselves. The kids had a separate room upstairs. Friendly staff and a nice breakfast provided. I would highly recommend.

Absolutely loved our two night stay here. Room (Bluebird Cottage) was comfortable and well appointed and breakfast was generous with a good choice, our boys were in heaven with the often replenished pastries. The location was perfect affording us a short walk to the beach or to dinner. Having two 6' teens, we were probably pushing the limits of the upstairs room but they were happy! The only slight downside was the busy pavement at the front, we just kept the blinds tilted so no real issues.

This was a return trip to The Lamplighter Inn after first visiting in 2012. I was delighted to see it was still the same charming place as it was back then.|Firstly it is situated in a fantastic location just off one of the main streets in Carmel. Great shops & restaurants are virtually on your doorstep & short strolls away. Also the famous & beautiful Carmel beach is only two blocks away. Everything was very accessible. This was important as I was travelling with my elderly mum.||Once again the cottage we stayed in was just lovely, the decor is very classic with a welcome gas fire in the room. |Compliments also to all the staff who were super friendly & we’re always so helpful.||I simply just love this place. And I’m hoping it won’t be another 11 years before I visit again. I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to visit this magical place & see for yourself.

My charming home away from home the week after Christmas for 5 of the 13 years that girlfriend, Karen De La Torre, has stayed here. The cottage charm and the ocean just blocks away and shops and restaurants and grocery all walking distance make this the perfect place to relax and soak up the holiday season. The staff, including Cyndi, Milani, Anna, Marguerite, and Anthony do nothing but the best to make you feel comfortable and part of the family.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The layout of the property made for great interactions between guests. The breakfast selection was simple, but what they had was delicious. The property was centrally located between downtown and the beach. Would definitely stay again.
