Went for a short visit and hike in mid September. Lake is large and.pretty. Loon Island has a nice trail. Park has both meadow and wooded hiking. The meadow lake and fish retaining ponds were dried up due to lack of rain this year. Saw a few deer. The campground, cabins and facilities seemed nice.

Located next to Lake Shetek - the largest lake in SW MN - and incorporating several smaller lakes within its boundaries, Lake Shetek S.P. offers lots to do: a decent amount of wide, grass-covered hiking trails; direct access to the Currie Loop bike trail; large picnic area adjacent to the lake; boat access; very nice campsite offerings for both trees/shade and open sun; and some of the nicest cart-in camp sites I’ve encountered, but note they are directly on a part of one of the trails so expect plenty of passers by. Those expecting unobstructed views of the lake will be surprised to see most views blocked by large trees. The restored prairie is a sight to behold when in bloom July/August- make sure to take the trail out past the Park Office to get the best views.

We loved this park! The trails, great lake views, wilderness, history, and quality of the park makes this one of the best in state. I took three bike rides--one in the evening before sundown, and one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. The sundown ride was great as I saw several deer along my trek. I did an "almost dark" loop around Loon Island. My daytime bike rides included another visit to Loon Island with my wife this time. I love that island as it gives you great views of the entire lake. I also rode the path to Currie (nice train park there) and then back to the Trail's Edge Cafe before returning to the campground. This was a fun ride through cornfields, woods, and along the river. This is a great park for those who want a nice blend of hiking, biking, water, wilderness, wildlife, and history. I'd recommend this to anyone as a don't miss destination.

Rented cabin 2 ....very clean and comfortable. Lots of historical places to visit in the area. The park has many different types of water craft to rent to get out on the water if you don't want to drag your own kayak there etc. The hike around Loon island is neat having to gain access to it via the causeway. The swimming area marked on the map between where we were staying and the boat launch area was nice as it stayed shallow for quite a ways out before dropping off so my 3 and 5 year old we're able to enjoy it. Staff were helpful and polite.

The park has a good variety of amenities for its smaller size. The trail out to the island is very cool, but you don't actually get any water views from the island trail itself.

Gorgeous state park with so much to do. We hiked and kayaked, but there is also fishing, historical sites, swimming and other water recreation along with special programs. We highly recommend the Park Lake cart in camp site. It is very private and has its own toilet and dock. It is also very cool and shaded and Park Lake is not accessible by motorized boats. We will probably be going back!

It's absolutely beautiful and quiet! The campgrounds(tent) are very spacious. They have a fire pit, picnic table and restroom at each site so it's private. They have rentals, trails, a beach, and many sites to visit, my favorite was the island! The water is very green and beautiful. It was perfect weather I went at the beginning of August this year. Wasn't crowded very few families, I think we only saw 4. Overall it was lovely!

Easily one of the most beautiful campsites I've ever been to. I am more of a tent camper so I reserved one of the cart-in sites. They had nice large carts available to Cary your equipment to the site. Each site has a level wood chip pad for setting up a tent and a nice fire pit with a swinging grate. These sites were very secluded and they were right on lake Shetek with beautiful views. I can't wait to come here again.

Great place to visit. We stopped for lunch and had a great time checking out all the little ite.s they had for sale. Things from fishing gear, candy bars, small groceries, alcohol drinks, to desert pies, and small items you might need on your trip. V
