Great mix of wood, prairie, & riparian landscape with well-kept trails & good signage. If you like easy hikes & nature photography, this is a great spot. I can't speak to the camping. Obviously, the car fee means it's $5-7 a day, unless you have a year pass for MN state parks.
The only state park in Mower County, near Minnesota’s southern border with Iowa. Truly beautiful park. Nice waterfall on a beautiful lake. The swimming beach is small but it’s not bad. There is a shaded picnic table area. There’s a lot of beautiful flowers and wildlife throughout the park and the trails are pretty cool, lots of trees. There was no staff at the park and there were only a couple other people there.
Beautiful little park that's well kept just across the southern state line from Iowa. It's so remote, it's quiet enough to hear the birds at a distance in the 1000+ acres of meadows and woodlands. It has over 100 species of birds! It only has about 20 campsites, half of those with electricity hookup (some tent sites) but it's worth the drive because it's on a 25-acre lake that's perfect for kayaks, canoes, or fishing. It also has an area designated for horses, both trails and a space for tying them up, if you own a horse. Hats off to Mr. Anderson, the host, for taking good care of everything.
We had a fun time camping and hiking at Lake Louise State Park. Mosquitoes: were not bad at all in late-July. Hiking: Not the most scenic trails... basically walking through prairie fields and next to a farm, but good enough if you want to stretch your legs Swimming: The lake is dirty and the bottom is gross. The bottom was extremely muddy, like sink into marshmallow mud up to your mid- to upper-calf muddy. The gas bubbles that bubbled to the surface with each step in the muddy bottom smelled like sewer gas. Like I said... gross. Firewood: Somewhat wet Campsite: Clean and well-kept. No bushes between sites. No one enforced any kind of “turn of the lights on your travel trailer” at night policy, so we got the neighbor’s outdoor light shining into our tent all night. Bathrooms/showers: Clean and nice! Wouldn’t go out of our way to go back.
Being at the State Park is my favorite place to be I especially enjoy the paths and their diversity. There are so many hiking paths to travel with your dogs that you won't be bored.
Spots for camping by tent or rv, nice trails year round including horse trails, beach and pavilion, fishing is decent you can catch anything from bullheads to bass, restrooms are pretty well kept, small dam
It's a small state park. Not much to do here except hiking here and there. Bathroom and showers are clean and roomy. We camped at the group campsite, which i would recommend. The regular campsites have no privacy.
Only visited the beach and did the hiking club trail here. The lake was pretty shallow at the beach, and it was a nice way to cool off on a hot weekend camping trip. The changing rooms/facilities weren't open (we were there the 3rd weekend in August), so we had to jerry rig a changing room from beach towels, but it worked out.
