La Scogliera - Italian restaurant in Shelton - 474 River Rd, USA

Casual spot with food well above average, fairly priced. My friend and I had two red sauce Italian dishes , one seafood and the other with a meat sauce and both were excellent. A good assortment of pastas including gluten free. We split the arugula, fennel and orange salad, simple and quite good. Oh, and a tasty side of broccoli rabe is not to be missed. Will return 100%!

Worst dinner experience I ever had! Wish I could give 0 stars. Had reservations for 6:30 to celebrate a birthday. At 8:20, we asked how much longer on our meals. The owner came out and told us that waiting 2 hours for our food was normal because it was just that good and we need to wait 2 hours on average for "his food". I have never been spoken to like that...simply embarrassing. My $26 meal consisted of 5 shrimp with canned mushrooms and a side of bland pasta. The owner's attitude was disgusting and I'm embarrassed for his employees. Our waiter and host apologized for the owner and said they felt embarrassed as well. I've been a waitress for 20 years now and counting, and this is this 1st review I ever left online. Another couple stopped us and said that this place should be embarrassed for how long it takes to receive food. BTW they came after us, ate, and left before we ever got food.

When you want a total family experience and fresh, hot off the stove, delicious Italian meal, La Scogliera is the place to be. It has a small dining room with about 14 tables, depending on the settings. There's also a well stocked, separated bar area with seating at the counter and a few more small tables for dining. The food is simply delicious no matter what you order, either off the normal menu, or from their daily specials. They clearly state on their menu that it takes time for their foods to be prepared, so after ordering, be patient until that foods comes out to you hot and delicious. It'll be worth the wait. The wait staff is always on alert and very attentive to your needs. This tucked away restaurant on River Road in Shelton, CT has now become a favorite spot for me, even though it's two towns away from my home. I've been inviting friends to join me there for dinner and they all have the same positive opinion of this place. If you don't want to dine in, they also have take out service which is how I first ordered from this place during the pandemic. The food was still nice and hot when I got home. I highly recommend La Scogliera to anyone who's looking for a great dining experience, where they can have a quiet conversation during dinner, without the frantic hustle and bustle of a chain restaurant. So glad we happened across this place. It was cozier than it looks from the outside. The service was wonderful. Very helpful and attentive. I loved the family atmosphere. Want to know what's on draft? Let me ask my uncle. Love it! I had the filet mignon with mushrooms. I used the wrong side of the knife and it still cut it! The steak melted in my mouth. It was so good. I appreciated the bread basket. It helped me eat every bit of that delicious sauce. Yum! For dessert it was homemade tiramisu. It was amazing. Just the right amount of coffee. Overall, this is a place I will definitely come back to. I highly recommend a reservation on a weekend night since they even had to turn back regulars who didn't have one.

I'm just a Nashville girl, on a work trip, stumbling across this delightful AUTHENTIC Italian restaurant, humbly begging you to try the cake that is baked in house by the owner. I got the white chocolate with almond and coconut cake to go, and had to forcibly stop myself from eating it all in the hotel room all in one go. Not sweet at all, but creamy, rich and dense with toasted almond. It made this three-day work trip worth it. I also had the red snapper with mussels and clams. It was great, but sooo much food after grilled octopus, calamari, and an antipasto. Anyway. 10/10 go here.

Wonderfully authentic Italian restaurant. La Scogliera is neatly appointed with a warm welcoming family environment. The owners are from Calabria who prepare fresh pasta dishes with many homemade pasta choices. The staff members are extremely friendly and jovial which compliments the vibe of the restaurant itself. My wife and I, being Italians ourselves, were extremely impressed with the quality, taste, and presentation of the food that was prepared for us. The Calamari fra diavolo was the most delicious calamari that my wife and I have ever had in any restaurant. I would hands down recommend La Scogliera to all of my family and friends.

Food was very tasty and came out surprisingly quick. I wish I had the option of getting my side of pasta plain. I got a veal dish that the tomato sauce just didn't go with. I would have preferred to have had it plain so I could eat it with the sauce my meal came with. Next time I will request it plain.

WOW! As a local family run restaurant, this place was far more superior than I expected! The staff was friendly and kind. The food was mouth watering delicious and Authentic! I highly recommend the Linguine and Clams. Fabulous wine selection- whoever picked out these wines, knows wine! Super clean bathroom. Ample parking. Beautiful dining room. Next time I am in town, I will be back!
