La Jolla Shores Hotel - Hotel in La Jolla - 8110 Camino Del Oro, USA

Upsides: We love the location of this hotel- we walked to Birch Aquarium, the beach to the pier, downtown LaJolla via the cliff trail, and around LaJolla Shores in general. The staff is friendly and helpful, cheerfully extending our reservation when our flights were canceled. The pool area and hot tub close at sunset, but that reduces noise into the rooms. Our room- 321- was perfect- partial ocean view, overlooking the pool area, with a nice balcony. The restaurant on site serves a good breakfast. We would definitely stay here again. |Downsides: They appear to be in the midst of updating the hotel. Although the grounds are perfect, the structures are dated- the railings are several different materials, including some brown painted plywood. We assume these are replacing old structures and are temporary until renovations reach this area. There are a couple of closed areas being actively worked on. Our room itself is freshly painted and decorated in a beach cottage style.

We had a wedding party stay here in January. The hotel is run down, tiles missing in bathroom, some of our party had floods in their rooms, and some of our party checked in and had to leave due to numerous problems with the room. It is not worth the price we paid for, even though we got discounted rates. The location is nice on the beach, but I would never stay here again. It also has many areas being renovated, and we were not told of this prior to checking in. If you like renovation work being done while you are on vacation go for it.

While this is an older building, it was one of the most enjoyable places to stay that we’ve ever been to. Had beachfront room with deck where you can sit and enjoy the ocean. At high tide, you could literally throw a stone in the ocean from your room. |Very nice layout with a courtyard that has ping pong tables, a fire pit area, and corn hole outside the bar. This would be great for families looking for a place to do some things without spending a fortune like at some many other places in San Diego. |Bar had great cocktails with views of the ocean out front and we want to shout out to the bartender Savanah for great service. |Pool was nice and the hot tub had very strong jets, which I love. |Another plus is they had e-bikes to rent, which were very fun and we used them to visit the Birch aquarium up the road. |Bed was comfortable, and yes the building and furnishings may be called “a bit dated” and yes, the “walls were thin” compared to a high end hotel, but no more so than a typical Best Western, IHG, or Choice hotel. |Sleeping with the deck door open a crack and listening to the waves break was heavenly. Hiking or biking just a hair down the beach offers some nice tide pools to explore at low tide.|Highly recommend.

I would like to start this off with saying that I am a certified hotel snob. I’m not proud of it, but it is what it is. ||I LOVED everything about this hotel. My husband and I are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We reserved a king sized ocean view room for 3 nights and it was spectacular. The bed and the pillows were so comfortable. The vaulted ceilings , large bathroom space, kitchen and balcony were lovely. The room was cleaned daily. The breakfast outside over looking the water was beautiful. We loved the little shops in town and breakfast at Caroline’s was delicious with a fantastic view of the ocean. Dinner at Dukes was incredible with an excellent view. The hotel is older but that’s what I loved about it. It was quaint and reminded me of a Mexican vibe terracotta feel. I would go back here in a heart beat!

We came her 1/20/24 for a wedding. The hotel is being renovated and they never told the wedding party this when they booked the block of rooms. Some of our party guests and family could not check in because the room had something wrong in it-flooding etc. Others checked in and had no heat and it was quite cold and rainy. Our room had missing tiles in the bathroom, old beat up furniture and stained carpet. We could not traverse the entire floor as part of the hotel had been partitioned off. My son's room flooded, the "honeymoon suite" door to outside shattered, cousins had no heat. Yet, it was still quite expensive and the $35 for parking was insane. The location is excellent but I would try the other hotels. Do not go here if you expect better than motel 6.

The hotel is in need a massive updating, some rooms have a strong mold smell, staff are not customer focused. My first room had a terrible smell, and you could hop from the balcony to the next room - appeared to be the only room like this on the floor. After multiple complaints about the, location, smell, safe that was not working, electrical outlets not working I was offered another room. An improvement but hardly worth the price. |Beach access & the hotel offering chairs and umbrellas for the beach was possible the only positive experience of the staff. |I would recommend one the newer hotels close by.

The hotel is on the best part of the La Jolla Shore. It is close to restaurants, coffeehouses and great ice cream shop. It has a lot of places that one can sit and enjoy beautiful view of the beach. | It is not very luxurious but we feel very happy there. It is locationed on the mystic part of La Jolla. Rooms are large and everyone at the hotel trying to help you.

I’ve been here for years and this stay was deeply disappointing. Won’t be coming back. Checkin was rude and emphasized $35 for parking and $25 resort fee for coffee in the morning. At 7. And late. ||Everything is more run down than usual and the hot tub is tiny. ||Amazing location but showing age and clearly more interested in extracting value than creating any.
