Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse - Japanese restaurant in Pensacola - 6883 US-98, USA

I had dinner with my father at this restaurant. It was okay. We wanted to see the show, but because we arrived 30 minutes before closing they couldn't give us a show, but at least they were able to cook what we wanted. I had the Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp combo with fried rice and vegetables. Without the show, the food was just ok. The steak was tender, and the chicken and shrimp were flavorful. The fried rice tasted bland something about the texture was off. I also had some fried tempura apps and edamame, they were good and fresh. The salad was normal, and the miso soup was perfect. The service was a little too fast, but we got everything hot, and the service was friendly. Then at the end when we got our check we ended up waiting a lot longer than expected; I guess the waitress forgot about us because someone else cashed up out because they noticed that we were sitting there just waiting for a while. I know this is a local hotspot for Japanese hibachi, but this place was just okay..

The rice dishes are pretty good, but the hibachi is where this place shines. Large sushi variety! Great taste, decent quality and quantity for the price. The lady at the front can be kinda difficult to understand, but she is nice and knows the food on the menu very well.

Two of us went to this location at about 6:30. We were promptly seated and I ordered off the hibachi grill. The green tea had no flavor and would have been appropriately called water with green tea color. the salad was fresh and the honey mustard dressing was runny and bland. On the hibachi grill, I ordered the Mahi mahi. This came with fried rice and vegetables. The rice was spot on with texture and flavor, the vegetables were overcooked ( like the veggies you can get from a school lunch) and slightly burnt. The fish was tender and cooked to near perfection with the sauce being overly sweet with a hint of teriyaki flavor. The hibachi chef was the highlight of the night. As far as appearance, the location looked run down with many repairs being needed. Including the grill exhaust while looking like they are cleaned regularly, there were still old crusted ( burnt on) chunks. The walls of the grill had holes in it and the plywood was de laminating and an eyesore.

Sunday during lunch was amazing fee customers made for a quiet dine in experience. The hot unfiltered saki was amazing. Also the bento box is a great go to.

The food was very good! I had the Shrimp Yakisoba and it tasted just like what I had when living in Japan many years ago on assignment with the military. I've been coming here for many years when I am in Pensacola and they have never disappointed. My husband and I really enjoy the sushi here as well! The dishes I haven't recommend is just because I haven't tried them yet but I suspect everything they offer is very good!

I would like to thank Chong for taking such great care of me and my son for lunch, the food is excellent and my favorite part was the beautiful Koi pond.

My wife and I have eaten here several times. It is one of our favorite places to get sushi. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the price. It's a bit expensive, but it's also one of those things where you get what you pay for and I cannot recommend Kyoto enough. They do have a military discount. We actually dined in for the first time recently. We normally order to-go. The staff is great. They are very welcoming, helpful, and attentive.

I've been here 3 times now and every time so far the meats have seemed cheap/not good quality meats. It's also the first Japanese place I've ever been to where it's white chefs and I'm sorry but they can't do it like the Asians. That would be like going to a steak house and get some Italian food or Mexican food. It's just not the same
