Nice open-space area to... go fly a kite. I'd estimate that a couple dozen people could be flying a kite without interfering with the person's kite next to yours. There are benches along the perimeter & some decent tree shade on the south side of the field to lay out a picnic blanket.
Great place to go fly a kite with no obstructions (unless you have a power kite and get pulled across the parking lot into the high voltage lines... don't do that). Parking is always easy and plentiful here. I have never had to pay a fee to get into the park. I would give this place 5 stars if it had a windsock somewhere.
Love this place. The only official kite flying area in Bay area, where you can do all sorts of wind sports activities. Kites, 2 line kites, power kites, surf boarding kiting, Paragliding wing kiting, frisbee, boomerang... Unlimited possibilities. If it's too busy, run deeper into the field, it's usually always empty.
Part of Shoreline Park, this is indeed a great place to fly a kite without worries of getting tangled up in trees or power lines or bothering anyone. The kites soared so high with so little effort. Wear a hat and sunscreen because it can get brutal out there. Even more importantly, make sure you use a bathroom before your visit here, especially if you are young and female. The porta potties were so disgusting that our 4-year-old granddaughter decided to hold it! And the bushes were not an option. That is the only reason for removing a star.
