The suite was disappointing for the $700/night cost. We stayed for three nights. ||||The closet was 4-5 feet wide but only had a rod for the 1ft closet depth, leaving empty space where we could have hung up our dresses and jackets. ||||The mini fridge was comically small, with only enough space for 3 water bottles, but not a medium to-go container or bottle of champagne. ||||When we requested a late check-out in advance, we were told that it wouldn't be possible because we weren't members, but were not informed as to how we could become members, or given any consideration due to our expensive booking or anything else. ||||We were surprised by the lack of complimentary breakfast, or even coffee. Yes we should have checked, but for the cost it didn't occur to us that we'd be left on our own.||||There was also a very loud trash truck that woke us up early in the morning on Friday.||||Upon check-out, the front desk tried to charge my husband for 3 nights of valet fees, even though we never used the valet. ||||We love the area and the hotel is beautiful, but we will not be coming back or advising visiting friends/family to stay here again.||||Caveat:||We are grateful to Jennifer and Savannah for helping us book our room and hotel block, and do not hold them responsible for any of our grievances about our stay. They were excellent, and should be recognized for that!
Had a lovely stay at the Kissel. The staff was exceptional and the room was very comfortable. Really nice bathroom with great lighting and the bed was super comfortable. The restaurant was very nice and had a few great meals there with a lovely atmosphere. Close to coffee shops and nice lunch spots. This area is being re-developed and Kissel is a big part of the community redevelopment.
We were greeted by the most friendliest person at check-in. Our room was small in size but designed to place all our “stuff” (golf travel bag, large storage container, 2 camping chairs, food and 2 rollies). The bathroom had tile ledges to hold toiletries both by the sink and in the shower. My only criticism is there was only 1 hook close to the shower to hang a towel. Not enough for 2 people. The closest BART was only 5 blocks away so going into the city and Berkeley was easy.
The Husband and I stayed for 5 nights at this wonderful hotel. Our very early in the day check in went very smoothly thanks to the efficiency and kindness of Silver at the front desk. The entire front desk and valet staff consistently had a friendly greeting for us throughout our stay.
Now let’s talk about the important/heart of a hotel. It’s restaurant/bar. The food is fantastic and Sandra in the kitchen is the absolute sweetest. Her smile lights up a room.
The bartenders and servers that made us feel like family all deserve raises. We had the pleasure of Quinn’s charming demeanor, wicked sense of humor and mastery of mixology our first few nights. We also got to meet the very charming Andre, who took great care to make us feel as though he was so glad to see us each evening for our nightcap and catered to us as if we were VIPs. (We’re not, just a middle aged couple from Portland ;-) Braxton is another gem that also offered amazing service and robust conversation. I highly commend the Kissel for having such fabulous humans on staff.
Clean comfortable rooms. Nice amenities.
Short: great value for the price range.
Longer: friendly and efficient staff, lobby is clean, the rooms are good and clean. The gym is incredible, they got a bit of everything there! Location wise, you have bars and restaurants all within walking distance, a Whole Foods a couple blocks away, so regardless if you’re there for a couple days or a night, you’ll be happy you stayed there. At least I was. I had 4 nights there with work recently and was very happy.
Stayed for just one night. The room was clean, nice, and modern. While there's not much on the property itself, the front desk staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Maxine! :)
There are several good eateries, coffee shops, and bars in the general area. I would stay again.
So I usually do not write reviews, but I had to tonight. I come into town for work and I usually pick Kissel to have a relaxing time before I start my work week. Today coming back from a memorial service for a family member, I come back and take a shower. From a new towel I wipe my face, and feel something on my lips. It is a long hair that is not mine. When I go down stairs, and let Maxine know of what happened , all she offered me was a new towel. I wasn’t asking for much, I didn’t receive a sorry, or anything. Just a new towel and a It is what it is.
The Kissel by Hyatt is a great hotel in the heart of Oakland. The rooms are very nicely decorated and clean with all the key amenities. The staff is wonderful and super friendly. We ran out of in room coffee and they didn’t have anymore K-cups so they gave us bar credit to order a coffee. The area is plenty safe and just around the corner is Javi’s offering the best empanadas this side of the Pecos. So happy we stayed here and we look forward to coming back.

Love to support small business inspired by family and culture and led by strong women! Highly recommend the latiya latte and champorado mocha (as well as their chicken empanada) ð we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with co-owner Ari and l
We went at 8pm and ordered a 6-piece buffalo wing and a pepperoni pizza. There was one man who was working the front and kitchen. He was extremely kind and friendly, and the food was ready quickly. We wish we had ordered more than 6 wings, as they we
