We were there midweek and ended up with the whole lodge to ourselves. The owner was great leaving us the keys with everything all set up and good dinner recommendations. The River looked so lovely that when we contacted her by text about 8pm, she was able to arrange for us to kayak for an hour and a half in the morning before we checked out. The River was fantastic
The lodge was perfect for our family (7 of us) to stay at for our daughters wedding at The Barns of Lost Creek. The fact that there were 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms really was a plus. The deck on the back was perfect to visit with the out of town family that came in. Paige was a great host and her lodge is cozy and truly a cabin feel. The river was great to wake up to. My husband fly fished right by the lodge.
But, did you die?!
If you can't appreciate the question above, then maybe this adventure is not for you. Read the website. Reread the red type. Take it to heart, it describes the river well and does not exaggerate much (You may find it overkill if you're an experienced class 3+ river runner).
I took a solo trip down the Lower Kinni on May 20, 2024.
Honestly, the Lower Kinni isn't *that* difficult. But, there are a lot of class 1 & 2 rapids. This was my first time on this type of river - rivers back home have sand/dirt bottoms and there isn't a rock or ripple to be found. You may find the Lower Kinni challenging if you don't have experience with mild rapids. For me, it was the exact type of challenge I was seeking!
Yes, I got stuck a few times. Yes, I had to duck under some trees, one of which knocked my hat into the river (which I was able to retrieve & dry). Yes, I potentially ruined a set of binoculars that I neglected to put in a dry bag (my fault). But, I had a GREAT TIME!
What surprised me was the lack of wildlife. While a variety of birds could be heard, few were seen. A couple of vultures and two eagles over the course of four hours was disappointing. But, my trip was from noon - 4:00 p.m., not the best time of day for wildlife.
My two main challenges were: 1) getting all of my gear (dSLR with long lens, drone, small cooler, stabilized binoculars) into a kayak without external lash points; and 2) cramming my 6'4", 210 lb. body in a 9' river kayak.
The only customer service issue I had was that there was no 5:00 shuttle the day of my trip and this wasn't mentioned when I made my reservation, so I had to be sure to make the trip in 4 hours rather than a leisurely 5. But, I hadn't made my reservation until after 9:00 a.m. that day and was appreciative that my reservation was accepted with such short notice.
I completed my trip in about 3.5 hours with only one intentional stop that lasted about 10 minutes. Other stops were unplanned "stalls" on top of rocks :).
Yes, I'd do it again; but, I'd leave my dSLR at the hotel as the bouncy river didn't give me much of a chance to use it. I'd also make sure I have 5 hours before my shuttle pickup so I can relax a little more. And, I'd put my binoculars in a dry bag...
We were in town for the weekend for a wedding and staying that the Kinni Creek Lodge was wonderful! Stayed with another couple and we had plenty of room for 4 adults, the lodge could easily accommodate 6-8 guests. Located right on the river, very serene outdoor space to hang out, but conveniently located close to everything in town, just a short walk away! The lodge has a rustic feel and lots of charm and character, Will definitely be back!
My second extended stay at Kinni Creek Lodge. Both times have been an absolutely wonderful experience. Clean cabin, secure, plenty of space, and a beautiful view of Kinni Creek. The back deck/patio area is great for relaxing and enjoying the wildlife. It is a short walk to town and the many walking paths. Thank you Paige, for another great experience.
Myself and sister-in-law did the three hour KAYAK trip on the upper kinni, Thur Aug 3 at 10:30a. It was a lovely day; only passed one other group doing the shorter route. We didn't even really have to paddle much. Just enjoyed the scenery. However, that did add 45 min to our end time. The current clipped along at a nice leisurely pace, handful of low level rapids (easy enough), some downed trees (nothing that fully blocked route) and a couple of manageable shallow spots. Lovely!
We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and efficient especially our shuttle driver BRIAN (very nice young man). I think if you know what to expect (read the website info) and have an idea of what kayaking is, you should have a great day!
Such a fun day on the River! We were so impressed with how beautiful the scenery was. We noticed there was no trash which was refreshing! The 1 1/2 tour was the perfect amount of time. It was challenging in some areas but fun to navigate around. We were informed we would face a few challenges and had a lot of fun doing so! We left a message at 8:00 pm to set up reservation for the next day and had a call back at 8:00 am confirming. Great follow up and direction. Highly recommend!
Would not recommend using this outfitter. Rather than use the public access to put in our kayaks, our group was dropped on the side of the road in an extremely narrow/steep area. Just a few minutes after getting in we found we were not able to get through without getting out and hauling our kayaks over the trees that had fallen.
For people with some, but not a lot of experience river kayaking this was extremely challenging, some may even say unsafe.
While we were warned about the down trees/conditions of the river, this part was very unexpected and could have been avoided had they dropped us off at the public access.
Our group is excited to get back on the river, but will be seeking out a different outfitter in the future.

Glen Park in River Falls really surprised me at how magnificent and beautiful the many different beautiful landscapes this city park contains right in the heart of River Falls. The park features a playground and pool recreation area. One of the best
What a great find. Being from the southwest, weâve had a lot of Mexican food, and this restaurant is up there. By far the best chicken mole enchiladas Iâve ever had at a restaurant. My wife loved her regular chicken enchiladas. The beans and ric
Kinnickinnic State Park was a good state park that my dog and I just checked out today. The park had a pretty good amount of elevation change since it is up atop of a bluff area overlooking the St Croix and Kinnickinnic rivers. They have a nice beach
Visited on a weekend. Had a reservation, but upon arriving it was pretty much walk in and not too busy. Unfortunately they were out of clam chowder and then out of the wild rice turkey meat loaf. Service was good and waitress was very kind. Time t
Stayed 3 nights and would definitely recommend! We really enjoyed having the full breakfast in the morning and swimming in the pool. It's a perfect location too, because it's walking distance to lots of bars, restaurants and a cute old fashioned m
