King Oscar Motel - Motel in Centralia - 1049 Eckerson Rd, USA

My husband and I were traveling late and needed a cheap place to stay for the evening. The King Oscar Motel is a bit old, and there are people that actually live there, but everything was in working order and clean. The beds were a little hard. The staff was very nice and helpful in finding us some where to eat at almost 10p. Very inexpensive and quiet, even though it is right next to I5.

We booked this motel as a halfway point between Olympic National Park and home. We got there a bit earlier than expected but had spent 4 days camping and were ready to shower and spend a few hours just relaxing in our room. The reviews we had seen led us to believe that the rooms were a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. When we got there, I immediately noticed that the office smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. While this was annoying, I wasn’t too concerned since we booked a smoke free room. When we got to our room, a sign on the door confirmed that it was a smoke free room. Despite this, the room also smelled strongly of cigarette smoke mixed with harsh cleaning chemicals trying to hide the smell. There were also flies buzzing all around the room. The carpet was torn up in spots and the light in the bathroom was flickering. The mattress was also very hard and uncomfortable. Since we had gotten to the motel earlier than expected, we decided to just continue home. We weren’t able to get even a partial refund, but we couldn’t bear spending any more time in this room.

Positive: The lady at the desk was super kind and very helpful! I feel she is an asset to the hotel and made the stay hassle free and enjoyable. Negative: Was over all a very good stay

Positive: "" Negative: The pool was not working for months. The key system didn?t work so we had to be let in our room every time we left n came back. And half the time they weren?t even in the lobby so we had to wait forever for them to get back and let us in.

The short list of pros for this hotel is that the shower temp was hot. As for the cons: -the hotel was not clean, the mirrors in our room were smudged and streaked like someone wiped them with dirty towels. -there were quite a few large rips in the carpets resulting in tripping hazard. -at one spot in the room, the tile was broken and had loose tile pieces, if we had the small children with us in our room they probably would have cut their feet on that spot. -the beds were extremely hard, and seemed small for a "queen" -the pool was closed for resurfacing, which was not disclosed to us until we had finished checking in and paying. -in one of the rooms, the TV was not working. Office staffed offered to move the occupants of that room to the far side of the motel, which would have separated our group(we booked three rooms at the same time to keep everyone together) not the biggest deal, but extremely annoying. -the breakfast said it included yogurt, there was no yogurt or even a fridge to keep it in. -some of the tenants in the upper area would stand over the railing and glare at anyone walking by or unloading cars. This isn't really a motel issue, but staying at a nicer place would probably prevent this. -our room did not have a safety bar latch on the inside, just ripped out holes where it used to be. -the light at our entryway was either burnt out or not working. I understand you get what you pay for, but at the VERY least I would expect working amenities and safe rooms.

Positive: Good hot water with great shower water pressure. Negative: Everything was rundown - snagged, rusty, dented. The exterior hadn?t been swept in a long time.

Positive: Nice breakfast. Nice front desk people. Negative: Scary looking from parking lot. Dirty cement walkways and stairs. really need pressure wash. Horrible brown throughout rooms, dark and dank.

Positive: The size of the room was quite large allowing us to move about freely. Also had a small microwave and mini fridge enabling us to have late night snacks. Negative: The ceiling/floor very thin and kept awake by people upstairs. The pool was closed all 4 days and the location was very sketchy shopping carts around it. Guys hanging out all hours on upper rail flashing gang signs at us. Overall did not feel safe. Negative: ""
