This adorable cafe is a military favorite due to its close proximity to the historic Camp Mabry Austin base as well as its love of pancakes from the service members. Parking is purely street but plenty of it. You don’t have to worry about paid street parking here. So that’s a relief. Upon walking in, everything is made of wood with the walls being covered in Austin inspired art by local artists. The lighting is indoor lighting so not very bright but bright enough to where you can make out the food and faces of those your enjoying your meal with. The wait staff is very attentive. This place gets packed in the morning because their breakfast items are all from scratch and packed full of flavor. I had gotten their buttermilk pancake platter which featured 2 thick and hearty buttermilk pancakes, a sausage and 2 eggs over easy! The butter milk pancakes were truly the main character of this meal! Absolutely can tasted the caramelized butter that has melted throughout each pancake. Just a hint of cinnamon made these classic cakes go over the top! I ate every last bite of my meal! I’ll be back for another round but I’ll try their cinnamon bun pancakes next!!!! Can’t wait!
Good ambience and cottage feel restaurant. Got to know this is the original first restaurant set up by owner by combining two houses to facilitate the food and dining services. We had chicken & pancakes, Chilaquiles and Cuban Pork Benedict in two occasions, it’s so good!Server is polite, enthusiastic and attentive. Food is tasty and good portion too. There is only limited parking space available nearby the restaurant. Have to drive a little further to find more parking lots. The place is dog friendly too as diners can enjoy their food at the outdoor tables too. Will visit the restaurant again.
What a delightful restaurant! Kerbey Lane…whose original location is on that particular city street—has grown to 10 locations, and is still very much a local fave. From comfort foods to a handful of innovative items, they’ve got something for every appetite and dietary preference. I went with the Broccolini Sandwich, which was vegan-friendly and swimming in delicious cashew “cheese.” If I didn’t know better, I would swear it was a traditional cheesy sauce. My sandwich also came with abundant fries, and I was happily full. I love the coffee-cup-on-a-pole out front. It screams “Come in here now!” Austin is swimming with many innovative independent cafes, and Kerbey Lane is among the best.
My husband and I were visiting Austin for the weekend and visited Kerbey Lane Cafe for breakfast on Sunday. I’m gluten free and their website touted ‘no one does pancakes like Kerbey’s’ and they have gluten free so off we went. We started off with a bacon Bloody Mary and Spicy pineapple margarita. Personally, I think they were over priced, but tasty. My husband got the chicken and pancakes. Buffalo drizzle on the chicken with some cinnamon sweetness added into the pancake were tasty. He said he would have preferred the chicken to have been coated in Buffalo instead of the entire plate drizzled with it, but overall he enjoyed it. I got a half stack of gluten free pancakes with blueberries and a jalapeño sausage. They pancakes had a very healthy amount of blueberries. Unfortunately, they were very dense, grainy and hard. As you can see from the photo, I barely ate half of them and when I’m craving pancakes, that’s unusual. The sausage was tasty. Would I return? Based on the other gluten free options available, no. HOWEVER, my husband is not gluten free and he said he would.
Came for dinner while in town on family vacation. We wanted to find a place that's unique to Austin. Since I need small portions, I ordered the kids cheese burger and added bacon and sweet potato fries. My children ordered chicken tenders with fries. My mom ordered Pancakes with eggs and sausage. Our food and service provided was good. It was nice to see unique forms of art sold by various artists around the restaurant, made for good points of conversation.
Always a great stop for Diner food. The pancakes are always awesome. Frank took care of us with great service.
Came here on Halloween 2023. Food was almost as bland as the waitstaff. It was clear they wanted us to leave, despite us walking in over an hour and a half before their closing time of 8:30. I’ve included pictures of my vegan, underdone pancakes as well as the tofu scramble taco. In the pancakes you can see the inside is basically just gel. They were hard on the outside. The tortilla for the taco was hard, as you can see in the picture it is staying upright. Tofu scramble had a crust over it but became softer as it was eaten. All of these are signs of food being microwaved and then sitting for too long before being delivered to the table. Despite all of these things we still gave our server an 18% gratuity though they largely did not deserve it.
If you're gonna go to Kerbey Lane, go to the original. Dog friendly. Beautiful building, location and gorgeous crape myrtle trees. The food is great, well priced and the staff is very responsive and genuinely sincere. The parking can be a bit hard to find, but definitely worth a short walk if you can't find anything street side.
