Keawaula Beach ,The beach is a bit of a distance. You are past H1 on the west side of the island almost all the way to the end of Farrington Hiway. You should be aware that it is arguably the largest complex of homeless on the island.
Stunning destination at the end of the paved road. Great photos here. Lava rack and beautiful blue water !
Keawaula Beach in Hawaii is a stunning 5/5 star destination. Its beauty is unparalleled, with incredibly fine sands and breathtaking sunset views. As a park, it closes around 5 to 6 PM, so plan accordingly. Keep in mind that flying drones is not allowed due to its proximity to a military area. Despite these restrictions, Keawaula Beach offers an unforgettable experience with its natural splendor and peaceful atmosphere.
It is the last sandy beach at the north end of west side of the island. Big, beautiful, wide, long beach. Golden powdery sand, blue water, sandy bottom with a strong shore break. The water gets deep fast. On the south end of the beach there’s an area sheltered by a rock jetty that is great for snorkelling. We were also lucky to encounter a sleeping honu there. Other than a bathroom facility there’s nothing else there so bring whatever you need. There’s also a sign that says ‘high theft area’. Beware but enjoy!
The beach was a long drive on the west side on highway 93 which is the only highway on Oahu that is a one way so if your with a family prepare yourself for a long drive through a lot of neighborhoods. After traveling entire island, the west side is definitely the biggest area for the homeless population on the beaches. Once you get there though, this is a nice quiet spot with some interesting rock architecture, and the beaches are great to explore so definitely worth checking it out. I was hoping to see some of the animals that were posted in some of the reviews of this beach but we didn’t get so lucky but it’s a place that will definitely have to go back to to try to get to see some animals.
The signs say you need to take care of your valuables, best to leave most stuff at home. I've never had an issue, but it's good advice. Right at the of the paved road, there is 50 yard long channel in the lava bed. When the tide is in, you may see experienced locals jump in, but unless you're an expert swimmer, don't try this. The basalt lava flows contain some razor sharp edges so avoid them, and keep your children off. Finally, at the far end is a simple sign letting you know your insurance coverage for a rental car doesn't apply after that point. Only experienced locals with 4-wheel drive go beyond there.
Great place to relax and watch tge waves break, with not many people. Some days too wild for swimming, though. There’s a great surf spot right at the lifeguard’s station. I’m not a surfer, but there were around twenty people in tge water, and it looked like they loved it.
This is the last beach on the north-east side of the island of Oahu. The highway ends shortly after and turns into a walking trail. The highway used to continue, making a loop around the island, but after a typhoon destroyed parts of the tip, it was closed down to car traffic. As a result, there is very little traffic here and you'll mostly see locals here and very few tourists. The waves can be a bit strong so if you want to do snorkeling, you'll need to be a strong swimmer. Head a ways out so you don't get smashed into the rocks by the waves or get rocks hurled at you underwater. You can see some fish, but like most beaches on this island, you won't see any corals. Being on the west side gives this beach an excellent view of the sunset. The mountains also block a lot of city light, so it's an ideal place for star gazing. If you swim, there is a life guard on-duty until about 5~6 PM. Restroom and outdoor showering facilities are available. Be aware that shower water is not potable, so avoid getting water in your mouth or eyes. Also keep in mind this is a high-theft area. Keep your valuable secured or leave them behind. Overall a great beach to get away from the tourists.
I loved horseback riding here and the workers were so laid back and friendly! Would definitely come again for a beach ride in the most beautiful place. I love the horses too, esp Ike (:
I love lost, came out to see it and because this beach is so remote and not many tourists come here I would probably come out here again for a beach day. The water was warmer then at the Disney resort and the landscape was much more stunning.
Beautiful beach! We went on a winter day just to waste time before airport, lots of surfers were out, there was a monk seal just right there in front of us (we didn't get close, and later learned from a sign at a nearby beach that they're endangered,
Beautiful park with nice shade trees. The water was clear in the early morning and seeing the turtles was easy. Nice shallow water/small waves for little kids. Beautiful snorkeling opportunities. Right next to a playground and bathrooms. Showers were
