I have always seen a line of patrons at this take-out and have had it on a "must visit" list. Ordered the Karaage Chicken Bento box. The wait was well deserved, the people extremely friendly despite the number of patrons. As the photo shows, the portions are generous. Honestly, this was my first Karaage Chicken and I did enjoy the CRISPINESS and flavor.
We love this place for a quick lunch or dinner. It’s been around for decades - a true downtown San Mateo staple. Our go-tos are the chicken teriyaki or Tonkatsu/chicken katsu bentos. We usually go the bento route because the pasta salad is to die for. Hawaiian style pasta salad with imitation/California roll style crab meat in it. We love it so much we recently did a blog post on it. A true 5 stars.
I bought a RIBEYE BEEF TERIYAKI BOUL and 2 ALOHA MAID Guava Nectar drinks in a can. It was delicious and satisfying if you ask me. The cashier called my number 109 through a speaker while I waited outside. Thanks for the Great Costumer Service and the Tasty food. If only I could have had a more clear view into the little oven that is used for the cooked meats. (NEAR THE FRONT DOOR).
My new favorite teriyaki place in california. I ordered the 🐔 teriyaki and the 🍖 sukiyaki bowl and both were delicious. Good portions, fresh and well cooked. Appears to be a mom and pop type of place and not a franchise. There was no indoor seating, mainly takout. The people were friendly and even the patrons picked up on the mom and pop vibe amd everyone was cool. It does appear to get very busy during lunch. I called and no one picked up, but was able to place an online order and was able to pick the food with no issues in about 20 minutes.
I used to have good food here, however the food quality and their handling of the food has gone down recently. The last time I was here, they were handling food without gloves. I found that utterly disgusting.
We got a Chicken Katsu sandwich and a Chicken Karage bowl, the food tasted well but the food handling just let it all down for us. It’s at the intersection right next to the Japanese supermarket. I don’t think I’ll be back here. It’s saddening to see this place go downhill.
They’ve drinks as well—soda and teas among others.
Rice bowls are decently priced and tasty. I've gone there regularly and usually get the chicken terriyaki. Full disclosure, they do have skin on the chicken so you can request them to remove it if you're watching the fat. Also, I would recommend the pork donburi: really tasty!
Affordable and yummy. The staff are friendly. We went there after picking up groceries at Suruki. We should have gone before because the line was long and waiting for food took some time (which was expected, as they make each order fresh as they come in).
Kaz Grill is a takeout. It's not fast food as they cook to order. Food is delicious and priced comfortably. There are spots in front to sit down & enjoy.
