Stayed with relatives for a family get together. We kept smelling gas in one of the cottages. Checked around the gas stove and couldn't find a leak, and couldn't find the source. Called the next morning when everyone had headaches from the night before and found out this was a known problem. The gas company had been called by previous visitors several times saying they could not find a leak but that it needed to be fixed. Property owner planned to have it fixed in a month but tough luck for anyone who wanted to stay there before then.
Make sure your life insurance is paid up before you reserve.
After the response from the owner: Wow, so many untruths, where to start. In summary, the final conclusion was that a problem existed and the owner chose to put guests at risk instead of getting a "tune up". Multiple guests had complained, with primary effort going into CYA for a month before taking the problem seriously and getting it fixed. Had the owner offered COMPARABLE lodging elsewhere we would have taken advantage of it. Instead we had to find accommodation at a local hotel so our family get together could be, well, together. It worked out OK for us because we discovered that most places consider breakfast to be something other than coffee and instant oatmeal.
We stayed here for one night during a road trip and what a treat. A beautifully furnished, fully equipped apartment in a beautiful Victorian. The beds were so comfortable with gorgeous cotton sheets. Great shower provided with all the products that you would need, soft white towels and robes. The kitchen was fully equipped and the fridge / freezer had the makings for breakfast (plus a welcome glass of wine after a long day’s driving). We even had time to relax on the the sofa to watch some tv. Kara has thought of everything and was amazingly responsive with recommendations for where we could catch a late dinner on a Sunday night. The place is fantastic and is such good value, compared to two rooms in a best western!
I was truly impressed by the quality of everything I got staying at the Acorn kottage. Such a reasonable price to pay for exclusive comfort of homey environment. Kara was so helpful whenever I had a question, she even personally stopped by to fix some minor issue right away (the speaker cord was disconnected, and I could not figure out why TV had no sound). I felt very comfortable making my own breakfast without a need to dress and go to a hotel's lobby for it. There is plentiful supply of everything from bathroom to kitchen items, and beyond. The place was very quiet, I did not wake up even once during the night, which is unusual for me. Slept like a baby in cozy bed. Thank you Kara!
What a wonderful alternative to a hotel room. We were in town for a college orientation and these were recommended. We stayed in the Driftwood suite and it was cozy and comfortable. It was nice to have a full kitchen and room to spread out. Plus the back patio was delightful!
Our stay at the Birch Bark Cottage was AMAZING! I will figure out how to leave a 5 star review. The Birch Bark Kottage is a 2 bedroom, full kitchen, separate dining room, separate living room and spacious bathroom. Although there were only 2 of us in the Kottage, we had family in the area where we were able to host them in the Kottage and had everything we needed as if I was in my own home. There is also a great deck with nice chairs and fireplace and table and chairs and gas grill as well. || Tastefully decorated and CLEAN. We totally utilized nearly every, pot, pan, plate, bowl,cup and utensil. We cooked full meals and even made cupcakes. Plenty of free parking. We will definitely be back to visit our relatives in the Kalamazoo area and will be sure to book way in advance to ensure that we get to stay at the Birch Bark Kottage. You will not be disappointed. By the way there are 2 more kottages within the same building.
What a wonderful place to stay!! We just wanted to sneak away from the house for a night, and it was like we went from one home to another. Kara has truly outdone herself with every detail. From the time we walked in, we were amazed with the attention she has paid to make us feel at home. The feel of the electric fireplace, the comfy bed, and the kitchen stocked with pretty much every breakfast item we could hope for. I look forward to coming back, and bringing the family with me next time. 5 stars all the way!!!!
Luna Kottage is a treat! It's within walking distance of downtown and the apartment is incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed the fluffy robes and soft blankets. Kara stocks the kitchen with breakfast foods, so we never had hungry kids. She was exceptionally accommodating to the needs of our family. We would definitely stay at her property should we ever return to Kalamazoo.
Clean,cozy& cute. We stayed here overnight and loved it.It was easy to book and nicely priced. Most definitely will be back next time we are this way. It was our first time staying in a non traditional hotel/motel. I'm so glad I took the chance. I'm an extremely tidy person and I worry about places being clean. I could walk around in my socks here. Highly recommend it. Pet friendly too❤
