Awesome museum, awesome guides, incredible atmosphere. The historical mounds are amazing. I loved looking for arrowheads and brought home like couple pounds of rocks.
This place has multiple things to do and see. The yearly metal detecting event they throw every year is amazing. You can't beat it! I. A little expensive at $300. But there's not one I've heard of that does as big of prizes.
For the price of admittance, it was pretty cool. There are three main burial mounds areas which you could easily work through in about twenty minutes. It was neat seeing the skeletons! The kids walked through the museum area in about 7 minutes, but they weren't very interested in ancient pottery and tools. I personally had no interest in digging in the dirt or metal detecting after 2.5 days at the diamond mines, so we didn't do that for long. Honestly, the shop was the coolest part, side from seeing the skeletons in the burial mounds. My wife grabbed some cut quartz earrings (much cheaper than diamonds and just as pretty), and the kids got some rock candy and trinkets. They have tons of gems and stones for sale. I really wish we would have come here before the diamond mines so we would have had a better idea of what to look for when we were sifting through all of our material. They have some of the diamonds found from the mine on display.
Another find on our way home. This is a great place to learn more about Native American history. The tour is very interesting!!! Great gift shop. Very friendly staff
It's a fun little place, probably more fun if you have little kids. My son is 11 and we didn't spend much time here. Most everything in the store is commercialized/made in China type stuff. Lots of fake items...but some neat stuff. The museum was ok, needs to be updated or just cleaned up a little. The guy at the counter was super nice and very knowledgeable. If you're in town I do recommend stopping, just to check it out!
This is a really cool place to get some lessons about history. Mound complexes with pottery jars, skeletal remains, tools and pipes. There's alot of other things left behind from over 1,000 years ago. In the gift shop you can buy drums, moccasins, bows and arrows, gems, chrystals, arrowheads and other hand made items. You can also dig for gems and arrowheads and keep what you find. Definitely a great place to stop and take a look.
Nice out of way area for a gift shop at the end of a trip. Also had tours for digging crystals and other rocks.
We has so much fun here!!! Learning about the different periods they lived through and then getting to dig for crystals and arrowheads. I highly recommend getting the any of the buckets you can choose from! Grandkids had a blast going through their buckets and finding all the goodies in there. And the staff, 2 young men were phenomenal!!! They were so nice and helpful and we really appreciate it.
