Kind of a small area that gets crowded with tourists. One side has a small gift shop with the usual t-shirts, water bottles, calendars, coloring books, stickers, etc. The other side has some nice interpretive displays. In the middle of all this was an extremely enthusiastic park ranger who was first narrating an informative video and then working very hard to round up some kids for a "ranger program." Not sure what exactly that is, but I'm sure kids would have a blast. This ranger was an older man who seemed like an absolute gem! He was very happy to provide assistance and answer any questions!

Visited the park today. It was busy. Go early before too many people show up. The visitor center doesn’t open until 9 so go see a few places like the lave tubes and the eastern side before getting your national parks passport book stamped or souvenirs. They don’t have small park stickers by the way. We ordered one off Etsy to add to our collection.

Very nice and informative visitor center. It's best to go early as it will get crowded, but the trails are easy to access and find. Beautiful sights no matter the weather. Would highly recommend.

Helpful Ranger to answer questions, a couple films in a theater. Small room with different information boards. Very helpful Guildance on what to do based on how long you will be in the park. Loss of short and long trails, paved and un-paved.

Nice, clean and well maintained center. Big outdoor maps help you orient yourself with all the trails and locations if you haven't already planned your day in the park. Inside the center, if you dont know much about Hawaiian island formation or volcanoes, this center provides easy to read educational exhibits and presentations to explain stuff, with helpful staff that answer questions and provide presentations thru the day. Lots of stuff for kids to see as well, and a educational movie theater. Nice gift shop, and the usual well maintained restrooms.

So Beautiful ! Amazing art , fine dining , friendly folks , comfortable atmosphere , and cozy fireplace. Bring warm clothes and rain gear. The weather is often chilly and unpredictable

A must visit location if you are visiting Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. The visitor center has charts and diagrams that talk about different things at the National Park: Flora, Fauna, etc. The visitor center also has a gift shop to get your National Parks passport stamped or to get gifts such as tshirts, magnets, etc.

This place is awesome, the steam holes are really neat.We went to the visitor's center watched a film and made two stops after that to the volcano 🌋 We stayed on the Kona side and the drive was long but worth it.

Scenic spot

Steaming areas with lots of sulphur yellow exposed on the rocks. You can smell it too. Reminds me of Yellowstone, except there are no hot spring pools or geysers. Good boardwalk and a short semi shaded hike from the visitor center

Great little spot to stay for a night. Hot tub was nice during a late night rain. Everything is clean. The breakfast was great. Banana bread was on point, but those papaya boats brought me back to life the morning after a big day of travel.
