If you are looking for a good place to learn about early Ohio history, this place has it. Surrounded by farm fields this is a very scenic location. Johnston was an early pioneer who helped settle Ohio and contributed greatly to the development of Ohio. Truly one of Ohio's great leaders. The house is beautifully restored with authentic furniture and house design. The house tour guide had great knowledge of the site and clearly loved her job which made the tour fantastic. The old barn is magnificent. There is also an ancient Native American mound on site. The museum covers the history of Johnston, the history of the Hopewell native Americans and the history of Ohio's canals. Also includes interactive activities for kids. The canal ride was the highlight for the kids. The 20 minute ride allows you to experience what traveling on the canals was like. It is one of a few places in Ohio that offers canal rides. Lots of history in one location, definitely recommend if you are looking for an afternoon out.

Great experience! Weekend tours of the house and canal were great! Canal runs 12:30, 2:30, 4:00 on weekends, about 25-45 minutes per ride. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly! Cool Ohio history. Most suitable for kids 5 and up in my opinion. Not so suitable for wheelchairs or stroller.

This is a real treasure of a historic site. There is the museum with many very nice displays that tell the story of the Johnson family and farm, the Native Americans of the area, and the Miami and Erie Canal. Outside, you will find the nicely displayed farm house, the downstairs kitchen, the summer kitchen, the spring house and display on making thread, spinning, and weaving, and the barn. The staff and volunteers are well informed and leave no question unanswered. A canal boat ride is part of the package, and you will ride in a boat pulled by a team of mules. The ride is along a watered section of the Miami and Erie Canal. It lasts about an hour. Once you are done here, and if you enjoy canal history, be sure to travel north a couple miles to see the Lockington Flight of locks.

What an incredible piece of living history for all ages to enjoy. There's a small museum telling the history of the farm and Native Americans that called this area home. Some beautifully decorated Native American pieces of their and other tribes culture. The Farm house is open during operating hours and tours are provided of it and the large spring house. They provide actual canal boat rides demonstrating the canal operation with mules. You can hardly do wrong by bringing the family to this jewel. The schools in surrounding counties bring the kids on field trips during September thru October. So you may wish to mention this to your school if they don't already know. The ladies at the farm house look grumpy but they are harmless and provide a large amount of information. Thank you ladies!

Wonderful museum grounds and peaceful setting for a relaxing day of exploring. The kids loved the dress up costumes and I loved reading the rich canal history while family goofed around banning on the drum.... Super friendly staff and low prices.

Great musuem that covers several decades of Ohio history from pre-colonial Indian cultures to the Ohio Canal era. They offer canal boat rides that are cool & there's an old farmhouse on the property loving restored to the 19th century.

This is a great museum to learn about Ohio history and the history of the canal system. On the weekend you can ride in their very own canal boat that is a replica of the ones that used to float up and down the Ohio Erie Canal. Summer kitchen and the house are great to visit as well. The volunteers In The Summer Kitchen are the best. Highly recommended

This was our first visit to Mikado’s and we absolutely loved it! My wife and I shared the Godzilla roll for our appetizer. She then had the vegetarian yaki udon and I had the steak hibachi meal. Everything was delicious and we can’t wait to come
