John's Fine Food - Southern restaurant (US) in Forest Park - 4161 Jonesboro Rd, USA

1st visit and was impressed with the servers, service, presentation, and taste of the food. Had 4 veggie plate meal, and it was deliciously tasty 😋. The only thing I was not impressed with the plate only had 3 sections, and the server put my yams in the plate, and immediately, the gravy ran on them. She attempted to put my black-eyed peas with the yams until she caught my eye that I didn't want that, so she put them in a separate container. Actually, the yams should have been put in a separate container, but I didn't want to upset or bother her to redo my plate. But, note to self ask before the plate is prepared. The other thing I was not aware of was that the cashier did not advise that you are charged a different amount if using a card instead of cash! Will I return, possibly if I'm in the area.

The reviews didn’t excite me, but we gave them a shot anyway. Fried fish, butter beans and cabbage. decent price. Not the happiest Customer Service. Butter beans were the best, cabbage was basic and fish average. Had a fish smell which is to be expected but a bit strong. Something to eat.

No cheese on the "mac & cheese" well it was cheese just not on the actual noodles.. the cheese was shredded everywhere but not melted. The gravy was soupy.. the greens were soggy... this just wasn't a great experience.. the line was long. I should of said something before i left but its ok ..i truly hope whoever cooked this gets better at it. God bless🙏🏽

I frequent John’s because I love the food. I drive 40 miles one way because the food in my area is not flavorful like John’s fine food. I realize they have short staff, and the only complaint that I have is that the staff doesn’t always pay attention when they are serving the plates. the cashier tends to overcharge you because they are not paying attention or they are rushing. Today’s visit December 19, 2023. I was overcharged for two veggie plates that were clearly marked with the price however, in the rush rush, you got a slow down. The servers forgot to put the cornbread in the dinner plates, and the cashier forgot the flatware. Because I drive so far it was a non-issue for me to turn around and ask for a refund. You won’t be disappointed with the flavorful taste of John’s fine food. It is not heavy-handed with the salt and the seasoning is just right. Servers, please slow down and pay attention. Other than that I have nothing bad to say about John’s fine food because it’s worth the 80 mile round-trip drive.

I feel bad for the review that I’m about to give but I hate I didn’t read the reviews before I allow someone to take me I’m a truck driver and I was looking for a great soul food so this guy who was at the yard with me heard me say I wanted some soul food. He recommended this place and he talked up on this place like it was a really good place to eat a older white guy we shouldn’t matter, but I should’ve took that as a sign maybe he don’t know good soul food. The dressing was dry with no flavor just cornbread string beans no flavor like they just opened it out of a can’t heat it up the smother steak I can’t tell what it really is because it has a lot of bread flour the gravy chicken seem like it’s something that just came straight out of a can as well the cornbread please do not. It is so dry bland with no flavor I bought ribs as well and turnip greens. I haven’t tried that food yet because the first plate I am extremely disappointment with no this place is good if you don’t know how to cook and you have no one to cook for you you can give to recipes better than what they’re selling, once again I’m not trying to put the place down but all the hype I’m extremely disappointed. The pecan pie is good the Kool-Aid I had to mix it with the lemon and the fruit punch I’m assuming it was fruit punch it was good extremely sweet so please add ice , my recommendations, go home cook your food. Look at you to get you some great recipes get some season and make yourself a great soul food dinner. Me personally I would not go back and spend any money about two plates spend $35 with one dessert the price was good. If only the food was good I threw away $35. I hate trying new places but this guy hyped up this restaurant, so I went, there was a lady, the cashier short hair burgundy color. She was extremely nice and sweet great customer service skills. The women who asked you what you wanted to eat to make. Your plate was not friendly. I asked if the meat was tender she act like I insulted her anyway I hope this helps , anyone who is thinking about a great soul food place? . The potato salad was OK. They sprinkle pepper on the top and it also seem like it was store-bought but it passed.

Great food. I don't like the turkey though. Turkey needs to me cut off the bone and put in turkey gravy and served over dressing with a splash cranberry sauce. Now that's good . Just my suggestion plus you make more money doing it this way. I used to work for another company mom and pop restaurant on main Street not mentioning any names but that's how they did it. It's just a little extra step of ❤️ to the customer. The food is outstanding otherwise.

Everyone working there was very kind to me, especially the ladies at the register. When one of the ladies took my drink order and I said Arnold Palmer she said with sweet or unsweetened tea? I said unsweetened to which she quipped "because you're sweet enough already". So I responded "you're sweet enough for both of us". Then the other lady at the register said in a protective tone "she really is". I could feel the palpable sisterly love, and that love spills over and into the food which was sublime.
