Johnny's Tavern West - Sports bar in Lawrence - 721 Wakarusa Dr, USA

So, having been literally housebound for over a week, warmer temps and melting snow makes it possible for us to finally venture out. A run into town to get supplies on wakarusa also includes a lunch out at johnnys west. YAY! LUNCH OUT! hubby and I have missed our "burp excursions ". We've had a good time trying and cooking new dishes at home but we absolutely ❤️ larryvilles diverse and plentiful restaurants. We've been to johnnys west before but usually for a basketball game, beer and appetizers. We were ready to EAT FOOD someone else prepared. Sadly, one of our favorite brewskis, yakamaniac, was out but our server recommended another IPA, Space camper which was delicious! A little more of a hoppy flavor but still good. I ordered the firecracker tacos with grilled shrimp and extra firecracker sauce. Hubby had the special that day: 2 hard shell beef tacos (1.75 each). My tacos arrived and boy howdy, absolutely delicious. I will, however, ask for corn tortillas next time. The flour tortillas are a bit doughy for the extended flavors. As you bite into the taco, it's a fierce blend of jalapeño, cabbage, shrimp, tomato and the firecracker sauce. Wait for the heat as it will arrive after you chew a couple of times. It's not a "grab a drink" heat to alleviate the burn. More like a "here ya go and then it's gone" heat. Perfect balance. Hubby's beef tacos were fine, I mean can you screw up beef tacos? Our server was efficient, she didn't hover and checked in 3 times. Bathroom was clean but no paper towels (I'm not a fan of hand dryers for reasons that I shan't discuss). Good news is when you exit the bathroom (using toilet paper as handle cover) there's a paper towel dispenser! All in all, 4 solid stars on every category. P.s. this week is restaurant week and their menu is very inviting! P.s.s. look at the difference between the firecracker shrimp tacos on corn vs. Flour! Definitely soft corn!

This place is so good we came back twice. The first night we got quesadillas and nachos and I got the teriyaki stir fry. It was all super delicious and the staff was quick and very accommodating. The steak in the store fry was cooked perfectly and the teriyaki sauce was delicious

Their fish and chips, mostly the fish part, tasted like an old rubber sock that had been left out in the sun for too long. The appetizers are always, yes always, cold...like chef Mike forgot to come into work. Yeahhhhh, that chef Mike, guy can warm anything up in a minute of less if you plug him in. By the way, told the server all of this and didn't eat more than a bite, still got a check for $60. The first 3 times we came here, we thought - certainly its not always this bad....it is. TVs are nice. Good place to go if the kids iPad dies :).

The staff is always friendly and attentive. I've never had bad food here, it's always hot and yummy. It is definitely a sports bar vibe as far as atmosphere. So, if you're not into TVs and background noise of that sort, it won't be a vibe for you. It is a fun place to watch games and get good food and drinks. I've also been at 7pm on a Sunday and the staff was still great and food was still good as ever. Again, never had a bad experience. At West or North.

We decided to watch the KU/Iowa State at Johnny's today. We ordered pizza and side salads. Salads came out with our meal plan and we had asked to have them before the meal. Our pizza was short on toppings and cold when it came to our table. Our waitress made us feel rushed to order and rushed to leave. I don't know who fell short on our order, but Johnny's isn't the same place that always had great service and warm food.

Johnny's West is so much better than I remember it! The food was excellent. All of the people were very nice and our orders came out 100% correct. They use the new wireless terminals, so check out was quick and easy. The environment has always been easy and informal. Nothing fancy here, but that's just fine with me.

Was invited to a Professional networking event hosted by LYP. Great food and customer service was 100%. The orders consisted of wings and fries, wrap with fruit. Lastly, Buffalo Mac and cheese ordered. This restaurant is a family friendly and professional vibe. Our host was very professional and adaptable.

We were visiting from out of town, went here twice! I had the fried buffalo chicken sandwich the first time and then I had a burger the second time. Very good. The chicken was my favorite. I saw the pizza and everyone raves about it, by the slice or a whole pizza!
