John & Annie Glenn Museum. Astronaut John Glenn was the first person to fly around the Earth. He completed three orbits that lasted over four hours. He traveled 75,679 miles at about 17,500 miles an hour, 162 miles above the Earth. He had also set a new record for a transcontinental flight at three hours, 28 minutes, and 8.4 seconds. He also flew back into space aboard a space shuttle at the age of 77 while serving as a US Senator. We watched a 20 minutes video and was given a tour. The gift shop had unique items. The docents were friendly and knowledgeable. This is the house he grew up in. His wife Annie had a speech impediment and eventually overcame it. A speech school was named after her and the list in the pictures of enrollment graduates may surprise you.
We greatly enjoyed our visit and we're glad we made this side trip. The staff was friendly and helpful and the interpretive displays were very informative.
I was driving along National Road, which is today U. S. Highway 40. One of the towns that I was lucky enough to visit was New Concord, Ohio. As I was driving through town, I saw a sign for the John & Annie Glenn Historical Site. Not being in any hurry, I decided to stop and visit. This is the home where Astronaut and Senator John Glenn grew up. Parking down a side street behind the home. I entered on the lower level of the home and was greeted by a very nice lady who welcomed me and explained how the tour worked. I paid my $6.00 senior admission and began my tour by watching a short film which was interesting and informative. After the video I made my way upstairs where the home has been returned to it’s 1962 appearance. The house features period furnishings and several artifacts that belonged the Glenn’s. This was a wonderful tour and I ended up spending a little over an hour on site. Everyone associated with this site immerses themselves in telling the fascinating story of Senator and Mrs. Glenn. It was a wonderful story, and I would encourage anyone who is in the area to stop and visit the John and Annie Glenn Historical Site.
Excellent location to stop and spend the afternoon. We visited this location twice so far and plan to go back again in a couple of years when they change out the first floor to reflect another time period. STAFF WAS EXCELLENT! Thank you. Full review and video on our blog site.
It's amazing how much history and information are in this house. Fantastic period authentic period pieces and storyteller. A must-see for any history / NASA buff!
Excellent re-enactment of World War 2 era as well as the family’s life from his boyhood until death.
The boyhood home of John Glenn -- this is a guided tour. The interior is set in a specific time period of Col. Glenn's life. This year (2018) the house is set in 1962. There is nothing in the home that existed past the year 1962. In the past it has been set as WW2/1944, or the Korean War/1951, etc.
The guided tour is given by a docent in costume (befitting of the time) & in character. The docent can be in the character of John Glenn's Father, Mother, Sister, Annie (his wife) or even his son David.
Added on to the home (in the rear of the house) is three stories of museum about the life and times after John Glenn left home, prima facie to go to war but in reality to begin his journey into history.
See what small town America can produce! Learn about the values & character that can be instilled in what some would derogatorily label a "simple life". Learn about the formative years of a true American Patriot. DO NOT MISS this essential piece of Americana 🇺🇸.
People working there were so great, and answered everything that we ask, loved how she played his mom while going through the house,

Perfect place to work remote from, quiet calming atmosphere in a college town. The breakfast sourdough sausage sandwich was super yummy! I wouldnât recommend the avocado toast it was a little underwhelming.
The matcha made up for it!
What a gem of a place. The wait staff was so kind. They walked little elderly men inside the door safely, always smiled and were great with my kiddo.... Who was having a rough day. The food was great, too. The buttered grilled toast was insane.
This hotel is a hidden gem, it is beautiful, the breakfast is excellent , even the food that they have available to microwave in your room is top quality. When i work that way, its the only place to stay. Hopefully the pool will be fixed soon
