Jailhouse Inn - Featured Reviews (151)
We were just there last week for one night. We were initially greeted by a gentleman at check-in who was extremely pleasant and provided assistance with locally owned eateries and the free trolley (which was extremely convenient).
Hotel has an interesting history and the property is well maintained with a beautiful front porch where we enjoyed a cocktail chatting with other guests. Room was very impressive, clean and comfortable. Free parking was for sure an extra perk as well as the convenience a short walk to the beautiful downtown/waterfront. Free trolley stop within a couple minute walk.
Continental breakfast was well put together with plenty of choice and several carafe's of coffee. Definitely hop on the $15 jump on jump off all day water taxi which has a wonderful tour of the waterfront (do not miss this). Anyway a wonderful trip, we look forward to staying again at the The Jail House Inn.
My husband and I absolutely loved staying at this charming inn. I'm always a little wary of inns because they don't offer the flexibility of a hotel, but Jailhouse Inn turned out to be perfect for us. The location is fantastic. You can walk to pretty much everything in downtown Newport and the Wharf area. The free trolley, which we took to the Cliff Walk, is just a block away. The hotel is spotless (we didn't ask for housekeeping during our stay but it is available). The room was big, the bed was very comfortable, water pressure in the shower was really strong, and the air conditioning ROCKED! That was extremely important to me because it was in the mid 80s and very humid in Newport the whole time we were there. The Inn staff were very accommodating. We didn't have breakfast there, except iced coffee on the lovely porch, but it looked like it had everything you would need for a decent, quick meal. We will definitely stay here again - highly recommended.
Jailhouse Inn was a perfect location for walking into town! The room was clean and a good size. Very good AC kept the room cool on very hot days. The historic feel was fun too! Feel of an Inn but with a lot of privacy. We would definitely stay here again.
Very nice, clean and cute place. Liked the history and location was great. Staff was excellent . I actually left one of my own pillows behind and we called them. They found it and mailed it back for free! Also, they have their own parking lot so parking is included which was great! Breakfast was good. And walkable to everything with definetly recommend
Unfortunately I did not get to stay at the Inn due to a family emergency. The Jailhouse Inn was so respectful, caring, and compassionate about my situation. I'm truly grateful and impressed by their kindness. I can't wait to rebook my stay here once my dad is better. He will definitely want to meet the staff here. Thank you so much again for being so compassionate about my situation. ❤️
The Jailhouse Inn was the original Newport Jail. The rooms are nicely appointed with still a hit of the jail with bars in the hallways and in breakfast room. Very convenient close to transportation center to get free trollies. Close to walk to waterfront restaurants and shopping. We had a great stay.
This was the town police station into the 1980s and a jail much longer before that. Of course, today it is much different and comfortable. We booked the 2 queen split and got two cozy private bedrooms!! However, the most important bond from past & present centers on its location. You’re in the center of town. And I mean everything downtown Newport is right there! The oldest bar, right there. The oldest balllpark, the oldest continuous synagogue, the newest aquarium, the bus or boat tours (do them both), the free bus rides to the cliff walk and mansions, city hall, yada yada yada. You get the idea. Book with confidence and sleep well!
We’ve come to Newport on several occasions and love to stay at Jailhouse Inn. Fresh baked cookies waif through the air during checkin and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Morning continental breakfast offers a nice assortment of goodies. Jailhouse Inn is Just steps away to the ocean with lots of restaurants serving up some delicious food. The mansions offer many tours along with the Cliff Walk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean makes for a perfect destination.
Stayed here for our 1 night getaway to Newport. We stayed in the Cottage room and it was nicely private, clean and spacious. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff were are very pleasant and hospitable. The location makes you feel like youâr
