The food here is exciting. The texture, the flavor and the smell… I love the persimmon … a light crunch contrasted with creamy corn milk, a bright citrusy note echoed with smokiness, layered on the herb and touch of fennel… I had such lovely bites. Fish can use a bigger plate but I guess I can overlook the uneven match since the fish was cooked perfectly! Actually all the dishes were cooked to perfection - the beef tenderloin is so tender and lovely … Happy eating

Went to Jun tonight. Sat at the bar, seating is extremely limited and I can’t see how any large parties could be accommodated. The board was amazing with the house made country pate and the oysters with pickled mango were fantastic. The beef tartar was perhaps the best ever. The salmon was good but I could seriously be happy with the board and tartar. For dessert we all agreed the tapioca was the winner. The donuts were good, but not outstanding. I’d never turn down donuts. The wine list is good and the cocktails fantastic. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.

A unique take on asian-american dishes with wine inspired cocktails. Jūn is a quaint place to have a date night, enjoy good food, and the ambiance. Make a reservation before hand. Some of items on the menu come from the Chefs family farm in El Salvador. Pork ribs, scallops, and gulf shrimp are awesome. Enjoy 😉

Service was good and attentive. Because we came on a Monday night the atmosphere was pleasant. I think that if it was busy the place would be loud. 1. Cocktails: -Aguachile Michelada was the special for the night and a total bust. It lacks the punch of the shrimp aguachile and the cucumber lime beer didn’t help at all. I should have gone for the regular michelada instead. -Sherry & Clay is pleasant and taste like an Old Fashion, but it was nothing special. There was a fire lit rosemary on it but it went out at my table so the aroma was mostly lost. -Ginger She Really Hot is a star. Flavors are strong and popping. I could down several of these easily. You don’t really taste the sake. Raw: -Oysters were tasty flame charred lightly. Mango was fresh and sour. I think larger oysters would work better so that the sea is captured in one bite. The oysters were kind of lost because they were small. - Gulf shrimp aguachile was my favorite. Sous vide shrimp with pipping texture, crisp taro chips and the acidic sauce creates a flavor explosion in your mouth. Don’t share this with anyone. Order it for yourself only. Vegetable: -Sweet Potato was my favorite of the night. Perfect moist and tender texture punctuated with dill, walnuts and the house made labneh made for a wonderful combination in my mouth. I would order this every time. - Summer squash and puréed eggplant was smoky and fresh. I would have liked it more if it wasn’t heavily salted. I’m guessing it wasn’t intentional but just poor execution. Protein: -Lamb Curry was braised properly and tender. The curry itself was too sweet. It was okay but having water curries from all over the world, it was just average. - Whole fish. This was a branzino and I was impressed with how they removed 99% of the bones. It was grilled but I suspect had been sitting at the pass because I expected a crispier skin. The crispy vegetables helped with flavors but I found it a bit bland. It would have been nice if there was a dipping sauce or a dry rub. For $50 it was I but underwhelming. Conclusion: I enjoyed the evening with my wife. The service was good as well as the atmosphere. Major complaints are the seats that must have been sized for giants. The backrest on the chairs are so far back the the cushion seats have no lumbar support so they’re not comfortable to sit in. If I come back I would order the sweet potato, aguachile and ginger she really hot every time. Updates 2024: Came back and had N/A Michelada. It was good. But I also feel like I’ve had this before. We also had the fried corn bread that was so delicious and pared well with the black sesame butter. On the flip side the same dish also came with sesame seed bread, which was bland and the white butter as well.

One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten, every course was better than the last. We started with the Oysters, then Gulf Shrimp, mushroom congi, fried chicken, short ribs, and finished it off with the sticky toffee pudding and goat cheesecake. Everything was beyond excellent, including the service. We were brilliantly guided by Kyle, and can’t wait to come back. The coffee martini was a dangerous beverage, it barely tastes of alcohol, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Last night had dinner at Jun! Such a good experience!! Wanted to point out Steven and Chris for being so awesome! Will recommend this place to people and will come back! Get the sesame drink, the pickles were delicious! The gulf shrimp was so good! Get the lamb curry! So good and carrots! The brownie - we could of done without but still good!

My wife and I had the opportunity to try Jun. Initially I was a little hesitant because thier menu was unique to me. I can only best describe the menu as a Asian Latin fusion food which I have never tried. Luckily my daughter encouraged me to try the restaurant and keep an open mind. I am so happy I listen to her. The menu is not long but has a variety of dishes from vegetables, seafood, and chicken. The menu is descriptive so you know the ingredients and spices used. We tried the shrimp, fried chicken, oysters, and cauliflower. The dishes are small, ample, and shareable. Our first dish was the shrimp. Presentation was impressive, almost to pretty to eat. The dish was excellent. The mixture of spices, sauce and shrimp came together to produce and awesome tasting dish. Dish after dish we had ordered didn't disappoint. The fried chicken was excellent, not oily, tender, and tasty. I can only describe the taste of the food like a symphony playing in my mouth, the spices, sauces, and food coming together in such a way that you savor every bite. Our service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and the drinks were good. Samantha our server was excellent in her description and dish suggestion, very good hostess, (she is my daughter but she will tell you I am picky) . Henry one of the owners was very informative and an excellent host. We definitely would recommend the restaurant. I do recommend making a reservation.

Forget stuffy fine dining - Jun is upscale like a well-worn cashmere sweater, comfortable and chic with an edge. You can practically taste the passion in the open kitchen, where Chef Evelyn Garcia (Top Chef Houston finalist) crafts plates that are as much art as they are food. I devoured the roasted carrots, bathed in honey and kissed with rosemary - a symphony on a plate. Then, the fried chicken. Oh, the fried chicken! Golden perfection, juicy enough to weep for, the crust a whisper of spice that dances on your tongue. Trust me, you need this bird in your life. But Jun isn't just about à la carte hits. Their monthly tasting menus are culinary adventures, themed masterpieces that change like Houston weather. One month, it's a fiery ode to Sichuan peppercorns, the next, a delicate waltz of French influences. Often, Chef Garcia collaborates with fellow culinary geniuses, making each experience a unique dialogue on a plate. The Verdict: Jun is more than a restaurant; it's an experience. It's the clinking of glasses against the backdrop of laughter, the buzz of conversation punctuated by the sizzle of the kitchen, and the pure joy of really, really good food. It's Houston haute cuisine without the attitude, a place where Chef Garcia's talent shines as bright as the neon lights of the Heights. Tip: Snag a seat at the counter for front-row access to the kitchen's magic show. And for the love of all things delicious, do not miss the tasting menu. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
