Island Take Out - American restaurant in Bar Harbor - 1500 ME-3, USA

We found this place last minute on a late-night drive to our airbnb. It’s a little kitchen in the back of a gas station but don’t let that deter you (I was hesitant when my husband suggested it but I’m so glad we stopped)! The food was incredible and the 2 guys working were awesome! They were working so fast to get the orders out but still making sure the food was perfection. Since we got there late at night we only had 2 people/orders in front of our and waited about 20 minutes for our food. Totally worth the stop! We got the lobster mac-n-cheese and the lobster roll - both were delicious! The mac-n-cheese was creamier even though this pic makes it look like a yellow velveeta cheese, I promise it’s not! I think they had a picnic table outside to eat at but most people were taking their orders home.

Island Take Out is behind the Sunoco in the red building; enter from the Route 3 side and when you're facing the Sunoco convenience store, the entrance is on the left ramp. There were 4 picnic tables with umbrellas outside and another one towards the back. Music was upbeat and as if my Employees are very nice and the food is somehow even better. The best mac and cheese we had on the island and among the best lobster as well. We got the lobster Mac and cheese (MP), jerk chicken wings, jerk chicken sandwich, and sweet potato mash. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of were the (packaged) salty chips that came with the sandwich. Do yourself a favor and stop by at least once when you're in the area. Use bug spray if you have some. All in all, highly recommended.

Delicious food! The jerk chicken and jerk mac n cheese are so flavorful!! The chicken is cooked bone-in and then chopped up, so be aware you need to eat around some bone. The mac n cheese sauce was a perfect balance of tangy, savory, and spicy - I wish we’d gotten a double order. This place is a little tricky to find, especially if you’re driving there in the dark. It’s on a little “island” between roads that’s primarily taken up by a gas station. Island Take Out is up a little driveway to the left of the gas station, tucked behind the main building.

Amazing service and even better food. A must try!! We stopped back one last time before we heading back home. The best warm lobster roll!!!

Our chef was so kind! I ordered the 2 lobster meal with corn, potatoes and sausage, as I have never had lobster. I knew this place sold Caribbean jerk chicken and others but I did not think to ask if the dish was spicy. The lobster was delicious but the corn., sausage and potatoes were too spicy for me (I am a whimp when it comes to spicy food). Chef was very concerned but I reassured him it was really good snd my fault for not asking. The clam chowder was 10/10. Highly recommend. No inside seating but picnic tables outside when the weather is nice.

We got a fish sandwich and a chicken jerk sandwich. Chips were not good at all. Sandwiches were enjoyable. I think I expected a bit more though. They have nice tables you can sit and eat at. There is a lake nearby where you can see the sunset.

The food is delicious! The service was fast, and the staff very kind. We ordered jerk chicken entrée, jerk chicken Mac and cheese, and wings. We also ordered bottled drinks from Jamaica; mango carrot juice and grapefruit soda. Everything tasted really good! They also have backyard with picnic tables and music 😊

Some of the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had! We got the jerk chicken mac and cheese and flavors were incredible. Portion sizes are big and fill you up. Super nice staff as well that stayed after closing to let us pick up our online order. Highly recommend!
