A must stop, especially at Christmas and Easter (chocolate and vanilla oysters). Walking down the stairs, the aroma of chocolate surrounds you. There is no other small candy maker like Hughes. The staff is very friendly and you are sure to make a friend standing. The line moves very quickly, but rain, snow, or shine there is likely to be a line.

The chocolates are very good. Everyone that I've shared them with have been very happy. While the chocolates are very good and homemade, the store itself is not accessible to everyone, because of it's location. If you are very large, wheelchair bound, or claustrophobic, this is not the place for you. I would suggest that you send someone else in for you. That said, the chocolates are worth it, in my humble opinion. Merry Christmas!

Grew up with Hughes. It was surely Christmas when that white box came out! We all fought over the oysters. I haven't had them since childhood so when I went last week for them I was transported to the most magical time. Everything is exactly the same as I remember it. The quality, the store, the taste. It's always been Hughes in my family, and always will be.

I was going to be in Oshkosh on business & was told of Hughes Chocolates by a friend who had been gifted it years earlier. She told me the meltaways were so smooth & creamy, she hadn't had anything like them since. She asked if I would stop & pick her up some (dark chocolate) , which of course I did, I obviously picked myself up a box (milk chocolate). When I opened mine & had my first taste of Hughes Chocolate my first thought was maybe I'm just a bit of a chocolate snob. Since I don't eat chocolate often I expect the chocolate I do purchase to be exceptional. This unfortunately was not I would categorize it as average (not Hershey bar average but candy company average). Yes the chocolate coating was smooth but the interior was gritty. When I asked my friend who recommended Hughes she said the quality was not as good as she remembered. It's a quaint business model. The staff when I said I had never been there kind of rolled their eyes & the girl asked do you at least have an idea what you want & another employee yelled I can help someone who knows what they want. So customer service I would say was not a best first impression. The stairs going to the basement are very narrow & steep. Being a person with mobility limitations it was a bit frightening going down the stairs. Having an option for persons with disabilities would be very helpful. The pricing is very fair & the smell is absolutely amazing. There was a very courteous gentleman at the entrance door opening it for customers and managing the flow of customer traffic who was exceptionally nice & friendly. Hughes Candy has made the holidays tasty and provided perfect sweets for over 60 years! I can't be back in Oshkosh so I ship a little of this deliciousness to my part of the world. So happy the taste / recipe is *untouched* and is seriously *drooling sounds* The toffee chips and peanut clusters... the white creams... good gravy! Recommend highly.

PLEASE visit this adorable chocolate shop! If you want to just believe what a lady says on a random review then you're going to want to get the toffee. It is the butteriest, most tender toffee without being too hard or too soft I haven't had in my entire life! The pudding one my hubby likes... not a big fan it's just chocolate covered chocolate but the maple cream is crazy good!

There were so many raves about this place, so we went. Chocolates are good, but could not move at all when you got in the basement. Terrible set up. Not sure how selling out of a basement is safe. Piles of flour and sugar everywhere. Steps are steep. Granted it was Christmas time and they were busy, however, I don't think it was worth the risk of falling.

Love coming here! Most amazing employees! And the chocolates are the star! Anyone in the area needs to stop here! You won’t regret it! Shop local! The smell of chocolate while you wait outside is so beautiful!
