My husband and I loved our stay here! The location was absolutely perfect too. We stayed for 2 nights and didn't drive our car the entire time. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance, which was a plus since we were visiting over a busy weekend and parking was not the best. Karen, the Innkeeper, was wonderful - fun to chat with and made us feel very welcome. Everything about the Inn was environmentally friendly which we very much appreciated. Our room was also stocked with delicious freshly squeezed juice and healthy snacks.||We're so happy we found the Howland House Inn - it made our first trip to Newport an enjoyable one! Highly recommend staying here and we will totally stay here again if we find ourselves in Newport in the future.
New owners who refused to respond. My friend stayed across the hall and our rooms were the same price. Her bathroom had a big nice jacuzzi, and a glass walk in shower. Our bathroom was very narrow and had a high old step in tub with jets and that was our shower too. Our coffee pot was broken and no one came to change it after repeated calls to owner. Was promised parking spaces but not enough until the tenant upstairs left. Beautiful area and that was about the nicest thing about the place. Would not recommend
We spend most of our summer in Newport but when have family visiting often stay elsewhere to accommodate all. This is the best inn ever. I am not one for bed and breakfasts and prefer the space of a larger hotel but this inn checked every box. The suite was spacious, decorated meticulously, with attention to every detail. The breakfast was delicious with again, tremendous thought to each detail. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom large with the most amazing toiletries. Clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable! Karen is lovely and this is now, after ten years of coming to Newport, one of my favorite places.
Everything about the Howland House was great. The location in the heart of downtown. The cleanliness. The historic vibe. The price. The ample space for the price. Karen is a wealth of knowledge that made our trip to Newport even more enjoyable. The light breakfast options and farm fresh drinks were all top notch as well as organic and non-GMO. Cannot recommend this place enough.
The Howland House is a small, unobtrusive, environmentally conscious historic inn situated on a mostly residential street in Newport. The central location is convenient, as it’s just a few minutes walk from restaurants, boutiques, the harbor, Bellevue Ave., Touro synagogue, and Newport museums. The parking space was much appreciated in this busy town. I stayed in the first floor “knotty suite” which was tastefully decorated, large and comfortable. The sitting room has a nice sized sofa, a big antique desk and comfy chair, an arm chair, and a small table with two cafe chairs. The fireplace is lovely but it is nonfunctional. In the bedroom is a good sized closet with robes and a safe, a very nice king bed, a bookcase with at least a dozen good books, a large TV, fridge and freezer, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. Provisions are 6 coffee pods, some packets of tea, several cans of water, a pint of farm milk and orange juice, 6 yogurts and four granola bars for self serve breakfast. The bathroom had a separate glass shower and a programmable “Bain ultra” whirlpool tub. The only issue I had was with noisy guests upstairs, as the old floors creak loudly above, and their late night conversations and laughter woke me up each night. |I assume the upstairs suites would probably be quieter.
The Howland House is a clean safe and cozy home right in the heart of Newport. We had easy walking to the waterfront, the historical society for walking tours and great restaurants. We strolled the neighborhood admiring the beautiful historic homes every night after dinner. Karen is a great hostess who is responsive to every need, loves the region and really interesting to engage in conversation. The house is very quiet and definitely conducive to a good nights sleep,
My husband and I have stayed at the Howland House at least 5 times over the past 2 years and we are more in love with it each time. Karen, the Innkeeper, works SO hard to keep this place spotless and stocked full of local foods, drinks, soaps, packaged snacks - you name it. She answers the phone any time of day and makes you feel like you're the only guests at the inn no matter how busy they are. We might only be an hour away from home but as soon as we step in the door it feels like we are on a vacation halfway across the world and can immediately feel a weight lifted off our shoulders. Everything is perfect, down to the linens, pillows and mattresses. The keyless entry makes it easy to come and go and the suites are all simple, yet classy. It is the perfect location for walking to shops, bars and restaurants. 10 Stars from us!
It is not a bed and breakfast! No breakfast. It is not an inn. No innkeeper. New owners. Lousy towels, hairdryer only works on low and makes scary electrical sound. Only one suite has access to kitchen where you provide your own milk etc. . Need the code to get in. Clean room and bathroom. Lots of construction to wake you in the morning though not the fault of the owners. Needs new description on all sites
Stayed here for our 1 night getaway to Newport. We stayed in the Cottage room and it was nicely private, clean and spacious. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff were are very pleasant and hospitable. The location makes you feel like youâr
