This was one of the worst if not THE worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel. ||||Check-in was an absolute mess. First, the valet told us that were told that there were no luggage carts. He didn't offer to help us carry our bags, so we thought we could do it ourselves. When we realized it was too much, we managed to find a luggage cart ourselves. Since our room wasn't ready (told it would only be a 30 min wait), we waited in the lobby. Turns out our room wasn't ready for another 90 minutes. A bellhop took our luggage and never told us; didn't even give us a tag. I had to chase him down and beg for a luggage tag. ||||When we were finally able to get our room, we handed him our luggage tag and gave him our room number. We later found the cart with our luggage sitting in the lobby unattended. Since he never brought it up to our room, we took it ourselves. ||||Since we had a long travel day, we decided to take a quick nap. While we were napping, a staff member entered our room unannounced and without reason. This was about an hour after we checked-in. This was never addressed by the hotel. ||||Since then, I deadbolted the door whenever we were in the room. We left the "do not disturb" tag on the door the entire duration of our stay. One day, I was showering and of course dead bolted the door so no one else could enter. While I was in the shower, I could hear someone trying to open the door to the room. I later found out that it was the maid service. If I had the "Do Not Disturb" tag on, WHY WOULD SOMEONE TRY TO COME IN MY ROOM?!||||We then learned that his happened to several members in our group as well. The staff is incompetent and does not know basic privacy regulations. Clearly management doesn't care to train their staff.||||Overall, room was large but in poor condition. The tub was so dirty. I can't believe I paid to shower here. There essentially was no closet to hang clothes. There was a small rod near the sink with some hangers. The sink was outside of the bathroom. Overall, bad experience and not cheap!

This hotel is in the heart of downtown Newport and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. Their staff is so very nice and friendly and try their best to make your experience with them a memorable one. The fire pit area, in the courtyard, is a wonderful place to end your evening, in conversation with your friends or simply enjoying the peaceful night with the soft glow of the fire. I will definitely return to this hotel!

I have stayed at the Viking 4 or 5 times previously and liked it well enough to return. I like the old world charm. This stay was a big disappointment. Our room was tiny (I guess that’s why they sent so many e mails prior to our stay asking if we wanted a room upgrade.) The room had no toilet paper, no regular coffee pods, no bathrobes and only one bath towel.

Very disappointing overall experience. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. Not a lot of supply in Newport so they can charge whatever they want. Room keys constantly failed to work, rooftop bartenders were some of the slowest and least attentive I've ever seen, and the rooms are quite barebones and dated. Have over 500 lifetime nights at Marriott and will definitely pay a little extra to stay there next time I'm in Newport. Had friends stay there and it was significantly nicer.

I was pretty disappointed in my stay at hotel Viking. The living room smelled like mold and mildew. You could see water damage. I should have spoke up but I was just trying to enjoy my time. When I checked out I let the desk know and she barely responded. For the amount I paid I expected a much better room. Our alarm clock was also pre set to 545 so you can image that was an unpleasant time to wake up when you expect to sleep. There is only one towel per guest which I felt was odd for a hotel. No slippers or robes. I expected it to be more updated even as an older hotel but it felt dingy. We had a drink at the bar and the bartender was super unfriendly. When we asked for suggestions for a place to go for dessert he told us places close by 9 or 10 and we could walk to Cumberland farms. (It was 9:30) we ended up getting dessert at a great red down the st. We had some food and did not like it. The tomato soup tasted like marinara sauce. My husband had room temp shrimp cocktail. The hotel was priced much higher end than it was.

Lincoln was an amazing bartender. Both with the alcoholic and the Mocktail drinks.Lincoln was an amazing bartender. He was attentive and personable. I’d be happy to come back and sit at his bar. The space was also very pleasant. Can’t wait to try the coffee bar next.

We stayed here at the end of June for an event for my husband, we got two rooms and had a much better experience than I’ve seen on the reviews. The hotel is older, not as updated and not all the bells and whistles from a new hotel but it was clean. Some updated needed to be done for the tub and bathroom sink faucets bit over all ok. The staff was amazing helped a lots with several things for us. Location could not have been better ! They charge for parking or you can do street parking. The roof top bar was a lot of fun and it was nice they had a pool Option that was indoors Over all it was a good stay the event picked the hotel we stayed , not sure if I would have gone there but it was enjoyable

Recently attended a family wedding and many of us stayed at The Viking Hotel. The stay was great, the food, the room, the staff beyond friendly and accommodating. Once home I realized I had left something valuable in the room. I spoke to Peter Garcia at the Viking and he promptly found it! Thank you so much Peter for swiftly finding and returning!
