Great hotel!
The bed bugs were friendly and the rats were quite social, all of us cuddled while watching the semi-working tv ahead of us. The view is spectacular: I'm a big fan of atoms, the atomic bomb theory is incredibly interesting. Further more, the food didn't give me food poisoning, which I am most thankful for. Although, I did get explosive diarrhea. But hey, I prefer that hole over the others! Nonetheless, I totally recommend!
I look forward to the reopening of the historic hotel! This is a great place to hang your Cowboy hat after a night in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
The woman that's allegedly the manager is super hateful. People were coming in at all hours being loud as hell and nothing was done, but the day we checked out she scolded us like children as we carried our bags out because we were going to wake other guests...it was 10 am. The hotel had a horrible smell upon entering and our toilet was broke the entire time we were there. I complained to the "manager" on 2 different occasions. She said she would send maintenance, never did. We had to literally get on our hands and knees to turn water off to toilet after every use. It was not on a comfort level of clean. We slept on top of the comforter with our own blankets as to not have to get in between the sheets. It was non-refundable so we stuck it out, but will never step foot in this hotel again. Worst experience ever! The only positive thing i can say is the guy that checked us in was super friendly and very informative.
Where do we start?? Checking in was a OK experience with a young, courteous guy but that is the only good thing we experienced. We went to our room upstairs to put our bags in (no elevator) and were not impressed. However, as we were only staying two nights, we thought we would make do. We then walked down to Fort Worth and spent a few hours exploring. On arriving back to the hotel, we found a very unpleasant smell in our room. We put up with it for an hour or so but it seemed to be getting worse. I then went down to the reception and asked for some air freshener. The woman behind the desk practically threw the can at me and said they had never had a complaint before. We used the air freshener but it made no difference. I was feeling nauseous because of the awful smell, so returned to the desk downstairs and asked for a room change. The woman again was so rude and told me that she would change the room but would not change it again. The room she then gave us was downstairs so we had to lug our baggage down the stairs again. When housekeeping left "clean" towels the next day, one of the towels was disgusting and soiled. Also, we had trouble with the toilet not flushing. Curtains were dirty, air conditioner did not fit in the window, power points hanging off the wall - the list goes on and on. As the hotel is right on the street, it was very noisy with people walking past all night. I would never recommend this hotel. The only good thing was it was walking distance into Fort Worth. Would rather have stayed in the stockyards with the cattle than stay in Hotel Texas!!!
Was a little hesitant to stay here after reading all the bad reviews, but decided to try it because it was the only reasonable priced hotel. The room was small, but cozy, it was clean, the bed was pretty comfy. It wasn't too noisy, had a good night's sleep. The manager was nice, they had coffee, orange juice and cookies for breakfast. I would definitely stay again. It's nothing fancy but beats the heck out of $300 a night somewhere else.
It's an older hotel (probably 65-70 years old) and pretty small- maybe 15-18 rooms, but it's adequate for a short stay. Most of the hotels near the stockyards were quite expensive, but this was was about half the cost of the others, and it had was we needed for one night. The room was quite small- maybe 12x12 feet- and there was no closet or hanging space. It had a tiny bathroom toilet, but everything was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The main problem I had sleeping was from the loud noise from the bar next door which had loud music way into the night. There was only one hard chair in the room, but they had a comfortable chair and sofa in the lobby which I used to work on the computer. The wifi service was quite good. For the price, it gave me what I needed for the night.
The location was perfect for the stockyards. Walking distance to everything! The room we stayed in was really small but quaint, basically a bed and room to walk around it.. The shower was probably 2 foot by 2 foot. The old school room keys made me a little nervous but I'm assuming it hasn't been a big issue before or they would have changed it... The lady at the front desk was nice.
My mom had stayed here about 5 years ago and wanted to go back. Little did she know that owners had changed since then. It was the most TERRIBLE hotel I’ve ever stayed! If only I had double checked the reviews prior to her booking. 😩Like many had posted on other sites, we had to pay with cash and receptionist was rude. We were in room 13. Once I stepped foot in the room, the smell of insect pesticide filled the air. We went down to see if we could get another room. Of course no room available, but were handed some great room spray. 🙄 No way is that smell ever going away. On top of that the pillows and mattresses were stained, mold on every vent, thick dust on all furniture and carpet. Something about this place is just not right. Live and learn! Never again!
So pleasantly surprised with the most incredible stay at the Sandman in Downtown Fort Worth. I chose this hotel because of the raving reviews it had. I was on work travel and it was out of the way but I am SO glad I chose this hotel.
