It is an absolutely beautiful hotel! We checked in without issue and the front desk attendant was very pleasant. The room was very clean. The bed and linens were very comfortable. We were a bit chilly since we couldn't adjust the thermostat and we did not eat at Caroline's so I can't comment on that but I would say it was excellent otherwise. It was a great start to a long anniversary weekend! (The pool, hot tub and WiFi were not mentioned at check in but we hadn't planned on any of that anyway so it was fine.)
Dripping with historic vibes, this gorgeous 110-year-old building houses a modern hotel with all the modern touches. This corner has had a hotel on it for nearly 200 years, and has hosted Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, and Al Capone!||It's location is perfect--views of the Mississippi River from the rooms, and walking distance to everything in the very happening downtown area.||The lobby makes a first great impression, making you feel like you've gone back in time. The clerks were kind and funny, and very helpful with suggestions about what to do and where to eat.||Our room had a comfortable, single queen bed (although the pillows were a bit small and flat). The bathroom had frosted glass doors and an adequately sized shower. Our only complaint is that the toilet paper fixture came out of the wall, which we reported immediately, but it wasn't fixed during the 4 days we were there.||The restaurant on site, Carolines, had really delicious food and attentive servers. It was also very handy having a spa on site (Potosa Spa), and it was amazing.||At $179, the room rate wasn't much more than the Holiday Inn down the street, and I'd take this historic beauty any day over a chain hotel! We will stay here again!
We had the luxury suite we paid a premium for. Nicely restored hotel. Great lobby area reminiscent of the early 1900s. When we checked in on Sunday we were not told where the pool or hot tub was. We were not told about wi-fi and how to connect to it. The check in sheet talked about a snack basket or honor bar purchases. Wasn't told where any of that was. It seems the 'in hotel store' was closed on Labor Day (Monday). Would NOT accept cash to pay for the room-only major credit cards. Would NOT accept debit gift cards, that even had my name on them, from the 5th largest bank in the United States, US Bank. They could try cleaning the inside of the elevators once a decade. Went to Caroline's restaurant for breakfast Labor Day (Monday) and that was a complete disaster. Our order was taken at 9:15am, we got our food at 10:07am- some 52 minutes later! To add insult to injury my meal wasn't even right. They did discount our check from their rather lofty prices, but we could have gotten in the car, driven to IHOP on the west side of Dubuque, had breakfast, and been back before we would have gotten our food at Caroline's. Definitely will not go back.
We stayed at the hotel for 4 days this past week and had several issues with the keys and exhaust fans in the room. We were in town for a baseball tournament and wanted to have a nice break from the hustle of the tournament and every time we would go back to our room, the keys were demagnetized and had to get new ones made. We kept them far away from electronics and wallets as we were told that was the issue and we continued to experience problems. We had the whirlpool room and the exhaust fan above it didn’t work. The exhaust fan in the bathroom didn’t work either. Because of this, the whirlpool was only able to be used one night because it made the room so hot that you couldn’t sleep. We said something shortly after checking in and it took asking for the next two days to get maintenance to stop by. We were then told at check out that maintenance did stop by but that the fan was just “quiet” and couldn’t be heard but was working. I can promise, it didn’t work. We were told a manager would be in contact with us about our stay as we had an early checkout to make our baseball game and a manager wasn’t available. It’s now two full days later and no call from anyone.
The positive is that the location is amazing and right in the heart of the town with some amazing views of the Mississippi River. The decor inside was really nice and the room was clean.
We stayed here over one Tuesday night. It’s a super old school hotel with lots of character. All of the staff were very friendly and we had a great day. We did not use a spa so I can’t comment on that. There’s also a bar next-door, that was really great and your room key envelope will be a buy one get one free cocktail coupon for the bar next-door. It was a great spiff. The hotel is very nearby several places to eat and drink and is in a fun part of town.
We had a small event at the Hotel Julien last week. It was beautiful. We did afternoon tea with some local women. The service was amazing. The team was so accommodating. The staff taking care of tea and our guests were sweet and so kind.
Chef even came up to check on things. It was delicious! A huge thank you to Lauri and her team. You are amazing!!!
The building may be historic, but so is HVAC system. We were cold. Room was 66 degrees. There were directions on the thermostat on how to operate. I put thermostat to 74 and went to sleep. I woke up at 5:30am to a 95.2 degree room. With no ventilation. We could have died in the room. We are not young. I opened the door for an hour and stood in the hall. Temp fell to 83. I called front desk. He asked me what temperature do I want the room. Odd Q. 72 I guess. Nothing. Called again lady just came on duty and knew nothing. Thermostats in the rooms do not control the temperature! The front desk does she said. Luckily we had to leave for the day. We only got dressed and left. When we got back it was 69 degrees. So I never touched the thermostat again and was cold for 2 more nights. I slept in long pants and sweater in July. Upon checkout I told another person and he said he would talk to the manager about getting us some compensation. Never heard anything. So here I am. Do not stay here. All other complaints are true also. I just wanted to focus on our air/heat in July.
This is our "go to" hotel when we are in eastern Iowa. The hotel is classy and in an excellent downtown location. We stayed here two nights in June before moving on to another state. Expect your room to be extremely clean and the staff to be professional, friendly and very helpful. We asked to change room to a higher floor and the front desk said "No problem". We wanted the best view of the river. A thank you to management as they have assembled a great team from the front desk to housekeeping. We will certainly stay here again.
Our experience was amazing, they were all so accommodating. We had a mishap in our room and a wine bottle broke. They donât have bell boys and the person to help clean it was the receptionist at the front desk. She offered to clean it for us which
I had been eyeing Ignite every time I drove by for quite some time. Iâm glad I finally signed up for a class!
When I arrived for the class both the instructor and the studio owner were there. Both were friendly, welcoming, and seemed excited to hav
Been trying to get here for years, and was finally able to make-it when they're open. LOTS of options (from sandwiches, to meats, to prepared meals), all seemed very reasonably priced.
It's not a big place, but they pack a lot into the small space (
