It is a beautiful hotel, right in Arcata Square. Shower has great water pressure. Room is very basic, we found the price steep. Free parking out front. Very basic free continental breakfast. Staff were friendly. Close to a lot of eateries and shopping.
I'm not sure why the reviews are poor. We stayed here almost two weeks ago, on our way to the Redwood National Park. The hotel is historical and over 100 years old and in great shape for its age. If you want new modern you should probably go elsewhere. Tomo sushi was also really good, even my kids liked it. The only small complaint my kids had was the breakfast, which was just bagels, oatmeal and yogurt. But it's not worth giving a poor rating over. Would stay there again for sure.
Mixed bag. Lovely feel and vibe but if you are unlucky enough to have a room facing the square there are drunk/high revealers screaming and singing and dancing and drumming and their dogs barking well past midnight and it’s loud as hell. I have a third floor room, arrived today from Boston and I cannot sleep because the partying down in the square. The singing was charming at 7pm. Now I wish I could move rooms. It’s horrid and I’m exhausted and it’s not a weekend. This is a regular weekday. I love the hotel and during the day it’s lovely. But this inability to sleep erases the charm. If I return I will bring a white noise machine and only stay if I can get a room that doesn’t look down on the square. (Pictured is the folks who are on hour six of a their public concert below my room and it’s brutal)
The staff are friendly and accommodating- we were going to arrive late and all we had to do was call in and notify them. Location is pretty central to a lot of small businesses via walking. Although there are a good amount of homeless people staying in the center (right across from the hotel), they keep to themselves. Parking is super easy and the hotel provides free overnight parking passes to hang in your car. They’ll let you know where to park.
Great place to stay in Arcata. Right in the center of town. Can’t beat the location. You can catch the Farmers Market on Sunday right at front. The bed and room were nice and clean. It’s an old building historic building so don’t expect anything too modern. My go to place to stay when I’m visiting in the area. It’s not far from the Redwoods National And State Parks. There’s also the Arcata Community Forest nearby if you don’t want to drive far for the redwoods.
First impressions of our double room were not good, bed close to wall. Small room. The staff are pleasant and when we said we were not happy with the room they moved us to a king-size. This was much bigger and brighter. Unfortunately someone has decided to paint the rooms in 2 unpleasant shades of beige. Once you can get past this unfortunate shade of decor the bigger rooms are clean and comfortable with nice toiletries and ours had an excellent shower. The location is good in the heart of Arcata, there are a lot of homeless people in the plaza but they just wanted to live their own lives and never bothered us.
We are in the Tomo Japanese restaurant attached, which was good.
The breakfast was included and that was fine. After being concerned at the start, we enjoyed our stay.
I have no complaints. Charming old, but well maintained, hotel facing the plaza. There is an awesome Japanese restaurant attached. So many things within walking distance.
My car was towed as a result of staying at this hotel (Hotel Arcata). I arrived late around 11:30pom to the hotel after driving 12 hours to the destination. First, there is no parking owned by the hotel. The hotel is part of a row of shop houses. We parked on the marked parking space in front of the hotel. We noticed there was one cone in the very front parking slot that specifically stated "No parking". So, we parked a few slots down that didn't have a cone. When we checked in, the receptionist Laura told us to take a photo of where we park just to be sure it didn't have a cone. We did. She told us next day is Oyster Fest and it was a big event for the city. She didn't mention more.|Next day we got up and had breakfast at 10am. We checked out from the front desk and walked out of the hotel, only to find that there were RV trucks, food trucks all parked on the front of the hotel and our car disappeared!|Almost immediately a woman who worked on the Oyster fest told us our car was towed. She said she had checked with the hotel and the manager told them none of those cars were their guests' cars. |Later on, we found out from the hotel manager (Zach) that we should have been briefed that parking on whole stretch of street in front of the hotel are not allowed. He indicated the receptionist would have told us. He kept insisting that we had been told even though he wasn't on duty last night. This is just bad business behavior - lying to the customer. He said not only it was the Oyster Fest that we are not allowed to park in front of the hotel, every weekend we are not allowed to park in front of the hotel. What is worse, he said every guest would have gotten a green slip of parking from the receptionist to put on our dashboard so the car will not be towed away after 2 hours of parking a few blocks from the hotel. |Worse is, all this parking instruction is not even mentioned in their website. We were told by the towing company we needed to pay $325.00 in order to get our car. In the end, we managed to get the Oyster Fest organizer to pay for the tow after two hours of hassle. The hotel has made zero effort to help us retrieve our car. I have never had parking issue in my entire life traveling in the USA. This experience tells me to never trust a website enticing you on a historical charm but always stay with the credible hotel brands in the future.
Beautiful stay. We rented the "Resting Light Lodge" with our daughter. We all enjoyed the beautiful outdoor baths and the local cafes. Our lodging was clean and well supplied with everything we needed as well as some special extras (fresh eggs, fench
I really appreciated the opportunity to immerse myself in this 200 hour yoga teacher training. It provided an opportunity to disconnect from work and dive into the content. The yoga instruction and approach of this training was exactly what I hoped f
Perfect place for lunch! The best food. The best homemade tortillas! Wow! Yum! Burritos are huge! They are awesome if you have special orders (like no dairy). My order is always perfect!
The cutest ice cream shop I have ever been in! They have an incredible table that's on a swing. You can sit at it with up to four adults and enjoy your ice cream while swinging! They also have the sweet single carousel ride for youngsters. Local phot
Super beautiful park, literally a 5-10 minute walk from Cal-Poly Humboldt. Whoever maintains these trails is doing great, however it is a little stinky right now. Not sure why. Anyway, I love taking my dog here, there's also a super cute skate park/p
