Everything about this stunning log home is welcoming and organized, with very nice decor. Both the bedrooms and the dining/living room common areas are beautiful. We were just passing through with our dog, and it was interesting to talk to some of the Appalachian trail hikers. I was told that the trail is steep in that area, so we found a lovely riverside trail across the main road.
We recently returned from a long weekend in Maine. For the first time, I stayed in a hostel that I can honestly say far exceeded my expectations. The Hostel of Maine (H.o.M.E.) welcomes visitors "HOME." Secluded in the woods off Route 27 in Carrabassett Valley, the hostel is just down the road from Sugarloaf with its excellent skiing and golfing. ||Upon entering, you immediately feel welcomed as if you've walked into an old fashioned parlor, furnished with comfortable seating and a plethora of board games. The main level includes a large dining area where you can store and cook your own meals. In the morning a homemade continental breakfast is provided to start your day with a smile.||Also on the main level are two spacious bunk rooms, each with its own full bath. On the upper level there are several queen or king bedrooms, each with its own private bath and comfortable seating in case you choose to linger a bit to read or catch up on your social media (or,hopefully not, work).||The hostel is pet friendly and immaculately clean. Justin and Melanie, the hosts, are genuine, down to earth, and very personable and informative.||Our only regret was that we had not planned for a longer stay, To remedy that, we are planning to return during the upcoming ski season and bring along a few friends so they can share in the ambiance of H.o.M.E. in Carrabassett Valley where visitors are greeted by a welcome sign proclaiming, "From here on your life will never be the same."
Best banana bread EVER! Beautiful log cabin, clean rooms, great customer service. I went in June 2023 and I am returning July 2023. This place just feels like home away from home
I've stayed here 4 times so far and it's really a great spot. The bunk rooms are bunk rooms, the can get a little cramped but the beds are a good size and they're comfortable. Only 1 pillow though! Bring a back up if you need more. The private rooms are nice and conforms too. The attendants have been available and friendly in my experience. Will be staying here again!
Absolutely felt comfortable, welcome and at peace traveling alone. I enjoyed having the company of through hikers. The staff were literally mostly inn guests at one point in their journey’s as well which helped me connect with them and ask questions. I was able to store my food in the fridge and dry shelving which helped me stay on my meal plan for clean eating. The beds were cozy! My laundry got cleaned and dried. I love the coffee I brought home from the gift shop. It was fantastic.
Took a quick trip up to Maine from NJ in our van which we love to use for camping though we also enjoy the Conveniences of proper lodging. The hassle of Maine was perfect and provided everything we loved in our experience. We got to enjoy sleeping in the van while having our electric heater hooked up to keep the temps reasonable. We also had a super nice place to chill inside, use of the bathrooms and shower downstairs really completely the stay. Everyone is super friendly so it felt like you were visiting family in the mountains who got up every morning and prepared breakfast for the guests. Love it!! Can’t wait to go back
Such an amazing stay! The hostel is clean, cozy and so welcoming. All staff were kind and helpful. The homemade muffins for breakfast were delicious! We’ll definitely be back.
I have spent time at HOME two times during March skiing vacations with the experiences in both the bunk rooms and the single bed room being pleasant and comfortable. This is a high end hostel, more like a lodge experience, yet the rate for the single traveler in the bunk room is the best value that I have found anywhere. The large common and dining rooms are very conducive to socializing and the staff friendly and welcoming. The public transit bus negates the need for your own vehicle once here for grocery shopping, restaurants, the outdoor center or the big ski mountain. Buffet breakfast is provided and common use of the refrigerator and food storage and food preparation allows for self sufficiency and economy in meal preparation. Well stocked beer and whiskeys are sold here. Bottom line, I will return here, yearly, and any time of year. I feel at HOME here.

The Bag and Kettle has been serving hungry Sugarloafers since 1969. Stopped in for lunch on a beautiful fall afternoon in Carrabassett Valley. Peak foliage time! Busy lunchtime, with a lively no frills atmosphere. The menu was streamlined. Typical pu
