Our stay was amazing ! The condo was so clean and welcoming ! it was perfect for 2 adults and 2 children! Very short walk to the beach! Family friendly area! We took advantage of the grilling area they have that sits right at ocean view and enjoyed the view while cooking and swimming in the pool! First time to Maui and when we come back we will definitely be staying with Hono Kai again! Also, shout out to your landscaper/ grounds keeper he was so nice and gave us some great advice on local things to eat and activities to do!

Do NOT STAY HERE , the rudest people I HAVE EVER MET. I am local on this island 20 years and the manager man is beyond rude. I even told him he can have security call. I'm sorry my mother in law here and we carried groceries up and parked on property where she STAYING here. Ask any family members who see that being an issue.. there is a way to run a place with respect and they definitely do NOT have that here. Along side , the pictures to the unit does not match. They leave their own personal items in the closet with locks leaving no room for the guest. Do not rent from anyone here !!!!!!!! Go to sugar beach or anywhere I promise you this is god awful. My family visiting and not even 24 hours and they have banged the door on twice. I promise you I'm saving you the humiliation and headache of being here. Wow and then we head to lunch close by and my mother in law gets a text from owner / person in charge of air bnb saying " follow rules ". Hello dummies someone parking in a lot for less then an hour with many spots open is not a crime. I understand residents live here too but these people are childish ! They don't allow family to visit clearly quiet or not ... don't come here or trust the good reviews .

After 15 months of no travel, we were looking forward to a week in Maui. We wanted peace and quiet, but easy access to other things on the island. We found the Hono Kai Condo Resort and connected with Tracey who has Unit A-17. What a find! Tracey and Peter are amazing hosts. The condo is small, but perfect. It is well-appointed with a nice bed, a comfy sofa bed (how often does that NOT happen, right?), nice towels, linens, dishes, etc. Our condo was ground floor. It does not directly face the ocean, but you can see it from the lanai and it is at most 50 ft. from the beach front. This turned out to be perfect. Privacy but easy ocean access. The condos are right on the 6 mile beach so you could walk to Kihei if you wanted. It's about 20 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes from Lahaina, and 10-15 minutes from Kihei. You can connect with Tracey through VRBO.

Though this property is not close to shops and restaurants, it is central in location as far as driving to those places as well as the airport, Lahaina, and Kihei spots. Coastguard Beach is an easy walk to the back and Haycraft Park can be accessed through the beach (very short walk). There were a lot of tents (staying overnight though the park says no camping), though it was clean. There are lots of turtles (you can see their heads bobbing up and down with the waves) on this beach though I was not able to snorkel as I am not a strong swimmer and too scared of the surf (I heard that it is a high surf week when we went though the last day we were there, the surf seemed very mild). There were people who were more comfortable than I was in the water. You cannot see sunrise/sunset in this part of the beach unless you walk to Haycraft Park for sunrise (right of the water is east).||There is a laundry area on the first floor as well as the second floor (need quarters).||Parking, though not assigned, was not hard to find and the area felt safe. Parking spots accommodates mostly small cars.||The condo complex itself is clean and well-maintained on the outside. The small semi-circular pool is at the back of the condo facing the Ocean. Very nice view. No hot tubs.

We have stayed here 5 times. The beach is excellent except is becoming rockier due to some erosion issues. Beach is not crowded. Love the location as it’s quiet but central o the island, 5 miles to Kihei, 5 miles to Kahului and 15 miles to Lahaina. Building is clean and well managed. No bugs, which is saying something in the tropics. The roosters go off every morning at 5:30, but the whole island seems to have free range chickens running around. If you are looking for clean, quiet vacay spot with awesome beach access this is a great spot. If you want night life, you will have to drive.

First, reasons to stay. If... If you like the smell of raw sewage, stay here. If you like neighbors stomping on the floor above, stay here. If you enjoy parking in a spot that is 6 inches wider than your car, stay here. If you want to park across the street from the condo (with no cameras), stay here. If you like to have people leave a note and threaten to key your car when you park too close to a parking line, stay here. If you like staying places where the residents don't like visitors, stay here. If you require handicap parking, stay here because there are only two spots that are constantly being used by residents, no, seriously.. stay here. If you like bright lights shining into your bedroom all night, stay here. If you love having no view of the ocean from the pool, stay here. We stayed in A6. The condo was well kept, clean and nice for the price. The bed was more firm than I would have liked, but did the job. The AC worked well, but was a bit noisy at times. The grass and plants are well manicured and provide for a nice place to sit and watch the sun rise and set. The sounds of the waves are calming. Overall, the condo we stayed in was nice... just wish it was at a different location. Now, the REAL reasons to visit Maui and stay near Maalaea Bay. The sunsets over Pu'u Kukui and sunrises over Haleakala are gorgeous. Take a dinner sunset cruise from the harbor to get an even better view. It is awesome! A helicopter ride is a must-do too! Wonderful views. Plenty of waterfalls and greenery. Need to relax even more than you are already, get a massage. ALL of that is within 15 minutes or so. You are central to a lot of locations, and don't have to worry about traffic. The area is quiet. It's about 30 minutes from Lahaina, which is a must visit as well. Those are just some of the reasons to stay in this area, just not at Hono Kai.

We stayed in a corner beach facing condo unit. It was a 2 story loft with amazing views. The beach is right in front of you. The beach was rocky in some areas, but we were able to float out on a raft with snorkel masks and see lots of corral, some fish, and other cool ocean things. It was a fairly quiet complex. We never had trouble finding a seat, and we usually had the pool to ourselves. There were also sand toys, boogie boards, and floats in our room to use. There is a man who comes every morning to clean the pool and BBQ area. There is a laundry area on each floor with reading material if needed.

Hono Kai B8 Condo VRBO Property ID 253390||This condo was perfect for our family of four; the open floor plan was spacious enough to not feel cramped, even if there wasn’t a lot of privacy due to the open floor plan. Here’s a list, which is how I appreciate reviews to be organized: ||Pros:|-There are boogie boards, beach chairs, and beach towels available for use. The kitchen is well equipped, and there are beachside grills for guest use. |-AC was lovely. Yes, the tradewinds are cooling, but sometimes you just want some manufactured cold air. |-There are quarter laundry machines just down the hall. |-The best thing was the location: the balcony was the perfect place to enjoy my morning coffee, or to feel like I was on the beach, without being on the beach. -Ma’alaea is in the middle of the island, so we weren’t far from anything; it served as a perfect home base. Ma’alaea is the 2nd windiest harbor in the world, so expect some waves. It didn’t bother us at all, as it made for an enjoyable time. |-The beach here is sandy, so we didn’t need water shoes. |-I never had a reason to contact management, so I cannot comment on responsiveness. Owners were very accommodating and flexible to our changes due to varying airline schedules. ||Cons (take this with a grain of salt…I REALLY had to think about this in the spirit of a comprehensive review):|-The upstairs loft bed is the most comfortable. The “master” bed downstairs is tolerable, at best. The 3rd bed is a futon, so take from that what you will. |-The parking spaces are quite small, so if you have a large rental, prepare for squeeze! (This is not unique to the Hono Kai; parking spaces are small everywhere we went!)|-We were instructed via post-it note to not use the dishwasher. We did not inquire as to why, and it didn’t bother us to hand-wash. |-None of these “cons” matter because WE WERE IN MAUI!||I would 100% stay here again for the location, value, and accommodations. Mahalo for sharing this special place with us! We had the trip of a lifetime.
