Homewood Suites by Hilton Boston/Cambridge-Arlington - Extended stay hotel in Arlington - 1 Massachusetts Ave, USA

The location is excellent, with stores, the subway and some good restaurants within an easy walk. The staff is friendly and helpful. That's the good news. The bad news starts at breakfast, which is so pre-made that it no longer even offers cut fruit. Also, parts of the hotel are overdue for updating. Our bathroom featured a tub that had been refurbished in the distant past in a way that left a pool of water in a depression in the bottom where rust was beginning to appear. Caulking appeared to have been done by someone like me. The bathroom sink was cracked and the bedroom blanket was ripped.. The room was clean if you don't count the hair in the bathtub and someone's hairbrush that had been left in the sink. The elevator to the parking garage no longer functions. We were there from Thursday through Monday, but the daily maid service of the past has transformed into the weekly maid service of the present. Room rates haven't gone down, however.. I'd give the hotel two stars but for the saving grace of the staff, who were always eager to please.

Wonderful stay! Great location, and easy for drivers to find. Near walking trail, easy to find bus or train route or walking route. Front staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was very clean and comfortable. Bed was so comfy and I slept well. Very minimal noise from neighbor rooms. Breakfast was wonderful! Loved it!

The staff is terrific. They make the hotel better. The rooms are very good. The hallways smelled like bug spray, and were very unpleasant. They felt dirty, but it might have been the small affecting our perspective. The elevator to the garage was out of service for a week - our entire stay. Lovely, tasty breakfast each day. Great coffee.

People cook in their rooms, and the odors waft into the halls and your room, which is not insulated to prevent it. This is compounded by the fact that there is a lot of ethnic cooking going on. My room smells like a dumpster at a Calcutta street food district. I tried to cancel out my stay and go to a different hotel, but they would not refund my advance payment from a 3rd party booking. I can’t wait to get out of this dump.

Appeared to be in the middle of a refresh when I was there. Room was a decent size and there are some good restaurants walkable. Alewife station is about 15 min walk away to get downtown and avoid parking and traffic. Despite being close to a fairly busy road, I didn't notice any noise at all. Would stay again if I'm in the area.

Hotel was clean, staff was very friendly, and it was easily accessible to Boston and all the local areas. Easy drive to the city or to the T station. Kids loved the breakfast in the morning. Great variety. Would absolutely stay here again next time we are in the area.

While the bathrooms in this hotel could use some updating, that’s my only negative comment. The staff is outstanding. We showed up at 9am after a cruise and had requested an early check in. While our room wasn’t ready, the girl at the front desk said she could have it ready by one. Then she actually called me at 10:30 to say it was ready. I have never had that kind of service before and was very impressed. The breakfast was better than any I’ve had at other breakfast included hotels. Each room has a kitchen so it’s great with kids, and grub hub delivers for free to the hotel. We came to visit friends and family and will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is in terrible shape and as a result is very, very overpriced. It was obviously at one point in history a decent, standard Homewood Suites that has been allowed to decay. All of the furniture, doors, and walls are beat up, the carpet in our room was coming up in a couple of places, bathroom was in poor shape (leaky faucet, peeling paint on the ceiling, had what looked like old toothpaste splattered on the wallpaper, almost no water pressure in the shower, etc.). Kitchenette supplies were inadequate. Several places throughout the hotel had what looked like poor (or at least unattractive) repair work done. Hotel laundry room door was perpetually open (maybe a humidity or heat issue - something was going on in there). Stains on the benches in the dining room. Rooms can only be cleaned on certain days and with advance booking. I could go on and on. Parking was convenient. Breakfast was standard free hotel breakfast quality (ok food, coffee was not good and not available 24/7). Staff was mostly friendly. Workout room was oddly the only room in the place that seemed reasonably well kept (equipment seemed newer and clean, even had a Peloton bike for those into that). Location was good for what we needed but not worth the price/quality trade off. For the price we would have been better off staying at a nicer place a little further away. Overall we had an uncomfortable stay and the cost didn’t sit well at all. We were asked many times to let staff know if anything could be done to improve our stay…well, not unless the place can be overhauled in a day or the price cut dramatically.
