I work in AK frequently and have not been impressed with the Garden Inn across the street. Hotels in AK are unique and many people don't seem to understand that. My expectations were pretty low coming into this trip. But the Home2Suites is very clean and comfortable. Night and day compared to the garden inn (which is filthy and old). I would recommend home2 any day. It's the first hotel I've stayed in, in AK, that felt clean and well kept. Great area if you work with the local hospitals but def not the most walkable. Best bonus is having a kitchenette. No creepy crawlies either. UPDATE 1/20/24: another good stay last week. Tried the breakfast this time around and it is decent but limited. I went down around 9am and there was plenty of food still. Room was clean and adequate again. Still recommend this hotel.
We had a traumatic situation in which we were displaced due to a house fire (that was not our fault). We chose this hotel because it has a kitchenette. We didn't realize it literally has everything you need to make a home cooked meal. The night manager Luke is always clean cut, collected and kind. His humor has brought us many great laughs which are desperately needed at this time. He's always accommodating us although respectful but not overly friendly. The perfect mix of professionalism and friendliness. Barbara the day manager/receptionist is so quick to work with us on little things. The house keepers are friendly and do such a wonderful job. I don't hear drama, just hard working individuals. Every time I pass a room being cleaned they are just working away. We have stayed in some 3-4 star hotels that were completely dirty and gross... And couldn't be happier with our choosing of this one. Although we know this is a temporary stay, I kind of wish we could rent an apartment here. The folks have made our difficult time much more manageable even without knowing our situation. I hope people treat these kind individuals with great respect... And please as guests, clean up after yourself. They ain't yo momma!
Positive: The staff greeted people with a smile. The room was quiet and clean. I liked that the blinds completely block out outside light Negative: The knob of the hot tub was missing, so no jets. Only one of 2 TV¿s in the workout room worked.
Worst experience at a hotel! Flew in from Texas late at night expecting to relax when I reached the hotel. As a rewards member, I selected my specific room and floor. My son and I are special needs and need a top floor for sensory purposes. This hotel is not handicap/disability friendly. Instead of offering a solution, I heard excuses that it’s not the hotels fault so they can’t do anything about it. I also need a room with a tub to bathe my two young sons. The very rude older lady at the front desk also said my room was given to someone else and I would have to pay even more for a room on the top floor that I already requested. The sleeper sofa had red/brown stains on the sheets and the bathroom doors didn’t lock. While we were sleeping, my truck was broken into and vandalizes. Multiple items that were tucked away were stolen. The hotel offers no security or security cameras outside! I will be sure to share this story with others so they know that Hilton does not care for those with special needs. Nor do they care about their customers safety.
The hotel is located about 3 miles from the airport in the “hotel district” with numerous other hotels. The facility is very nice and well maintained with well equipped kitchenette. Room was very clean and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had a nice variety of breakfast sandwiches plus waffles, etc. They were a little slow getting set up so waffle mix wasn’t ready until after 7am. The fire pits outside lobby were a nice touch.||There were a couple negatives: 1) no shuttle to/from the airport nor a shared service with other Hilton properties adjacent to their location 2) tv in room did not work (not a huge deal as we didn’t travel to Alaska to watch tv 😜).|Staff was very friendly and helpful.
For how much they charge during peak travel/tourist season… this place is a dump. It’s not where as clean as you would expect for the price you pay. Stayed for around 3 weeks… The computer chair in my room was disgusting and stained… requested a new one and I just got a less stained chair. Found mold in my breakfast that the hotel serves… it’s a frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast bowl, which can really only mold if they kept the leftovers and reheated. Service was also a little depressing. Front desk wasn’t friendly or welcoming. They act like you inconvenience every time you ask them for something. I know two people found bed bugs in their room during my stay.
We booked 2 rooms for a family 3-night stay. Rooms were very spacious. Nice kitchenette with full-size refrigerator (optional portable stove-top, we didn't need). The rooms were very clean. The staff was all very friendly. Lobby area was kept very clean (they were mopping it often). The pool was nice (chilly) and the hot tub was ok. I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again.
The room was great and the staff was excellent, especially Ryan. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. It is conveniently located to downtown. The only issue during our stay was the fact that a food delivery didn't come in so they were out of a few things for a couple days.
