Home Maid Bakery - Featured Reviews (214)
Home Maid Bakery opened in 1960, started by Joseph & Monica Kozuki. The main bakery and store is located on the west side of Lower Main Street in Wailuku, next door to Tokyo Tei restaurant in the next lot over. They also have/had a location in Kihei's Azeka Place mall called Home Maid Café but I'm not sure if they're still open.
THE GOODS:
They sell a variety of pastries and sweets, including numerous donut styles, manju (with 8 different fillings), cakes (carrot, chantilly, coconut, dobash, guava, peach), cookies, mochi, pies (apple, custard, French apple, pumpkin, pumpkin custard) and breads. Not to be forgotten is also a handful of local-style bento lunches.
EXPERIENCE:
Malasada - $1.00 ea.
The Portuguese donut is really, really good here. They're made fresh-to-order, so don't expect to pop in and out quickly. Soft, chewy, moist and fluffy with a creamy batter and not overloaded with sugar. Extremely delish and highly recommended! They also have custard-filled ones which I've yet to try. If you're not familiar with malasadas, they're exactly like traditional donuts minus the hole in the middle and taste way better.
Custard Pie
I usually buy this at Foodland Kahului. The pie is also available in half sizes. The crust is pretty good - firm but a bit dense. The custard filling is a tad too sweet for my liking, but, if you can't bake, it'll do! Of course it can't beat my mom's recipe.
TIP:
Some of their goodies are also sold at Maui Foodland, Safeway, Longs, Costco, Times and ABC Store locations, including Pukalani Superette.
OVERALL:
THE spot for your malasada fix.
The malasadas were amazing. They took about 10 minutes to get out to us, but they were hot and FRESH! Great bakery. The donuts, cookies, and sweet buns were great. I'm definitely coming back.
Went for a vacation in Maui, Hawaii.. and it was recommended by our friends to try Malasadas! It was amazing.. we tried the plain ($1.35 each) and the custard ($1.85).. You can't go wrong with both. I would love to try their other pastries, next time we go for a visit. This bakery also sells ready made meals that looks so tasty too. Would definitely recommend, they made our orders FRESH, HOT and ohh so DELICIOUS.
Stop in for the fresh cream-filled malasadas (made to order!), and grab some haupia while you’re there.
To note: the malasadas come out HOT, but must be refrigerated or eaten that day. By the next morning, the one we (foolishly!) didn’t gobble had gone sour and we had to throw it out. Lesson learned!
Malasadas all the time! Also has good variety of breads, cakes, softdrinks, coffees, donuts and other treats, there is also cold Benton's for a quick snack or lunch, good place for a sweet tooth or a non-fastfood take away lunch, picture of box only the malasadas didn't last 1 min once brought to family
During my visit, I was able to visit Home Maid Bakery for their well-known malasadas and their other treats. I wasn't disappointed. They make them when you order but it does take 8 mins so hope you have time for that. Malasadas are good when they're fresh out of the fryer. It's still enjoyable when cold but not as good. I liked the cream filled one over the regular one but regular one was still enjoyable. They're about the size of a tennis ball. I also tried the sweet potato manjus and mochichi, and the peanut butter mochi. I can see why some people would like the manjus but for me, I really liked the mochichi and the mochi. They were so soft and yummy. I would definitely go back. 4 stars only because the price was high! Over $7 for 4pcs of mochi!
In A Nutshell:
-Home Maid Bakery is a local bakery that specializes in malasadas which are Portuguese in origin.
-When I popped in the early afternoon, I was afraid they might've sold out, but luckily they were able to make a fresh batch for me.
-I opted for 5 original and 5 custard-filled malasadas.
-They came out fresh, hot & smelled oh so good!
-I also picked up some pink coconut chichi mochi, which are so soft & not too sweet (you should definitely grab a pack or two of these).
-They also sell guava cakes in case you need one for a birthday.
Overall, this is a very nice local bakery that wasn't packed full of tourists!
Came for coffee and donuts. Both were delicious. Staff were friendly friendly too. Coffee is from a large coffee pot that you can pour yourself- no lattes but coffee was still tasty. I had a cinnamon twist… yum!!! They also have lots of prepared meals in the fridge (we didn’t get these) but they had many options and looked tasty!

Awesome bar food. One of the very few, if not only, karaoke place where you can sing any song you like, not just whatever is limited in the books. Watch whichever game you want during football season, many flatscreens to enjoy multiple games at the s
Coffe and chai tea were great. They have some seating and the staff is very friendly. Corey waited on us. It was early at 6:30am and see gave us directions to cool places. The staff is great and they make a great espresso.
I picked up a pair of Seac Motus M/Power long fins, a mask and snorkel.
Jody (sp) went out of his way to make sure I was going to enjoy my purchases.....

We came here twice during our visit to Maui and loved the fresh food! The mahi salad and Buddha bowl were particularly delicious. If you order a smoothie or açaà bowl, remember to take your ticket to the second truck so that they know to make your
We were very happy with this condo! Outside, we weren't sure what to expect because it is outdated. But inside was well taken care of and very clean. Many amenities, including shower, bath, washer and dryer, dishwasher, large balcony with rail, many
Went on a snorkeling tour with Pacific Whale Foundation. Great company, excellent tour. Weather wasn't great for Molikini, but Coral Gardens didn't disappoint
Amazing take out style restaurant run by a local family. Great service, super friendly. Food was exceptional! We got the curry udon, house special with Korean chicken and teriyaki pork, and vegetable tempera. Unfortunately, they were out of noodle si
