Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wauseon, an IHG Hotel - Featured Reviews (488)
Great facilities and fantastic staff. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Rooms were a nice size and clean, beds were comfortable. Great breakfast with a good variety of things to eat. Nice amenities including a hot tub. Even more importantly, the staff I dealt with there were fantastic in many ways: Unfortunately I didn't write down the name of the person who checked me in the afternoon of 7/5. She was cheerful, recognized my wife as a rewards member and made the check-in process very smooth. Even more importantly to me is that she went out of her way to help be with a problem I had with hotel reservations I had accidently made using a 3rd party booking website - thinking it was the Holiday Inn website. I had tried to cancel those reservations but that 3rd party website didn't execute my request. In the end, I ended up having 2 sets of reservations to the same hotel. She did some initial research on this issue and documented her findings for her manager Donna Harris who wasn't on duty at that time. The next day Donna resolved my problem in a way that I only ended up paying for one set of reservations. There was no help on this from the 3rd partly website, it was the Holiday Inn staff who resolved this problem for me. I'm forever grateful to both of them for their help in preventing me from having to pay for 2 sets of reservations. They both went above and beyond on this and I hope they are recognized in some way for their superior customer service.
Positive: Breakfast was what you would expect. Plenty of parking. There is a diner directly across the street but the hours are odd. Negative: The facility in general needs as bit of an update. Someone at some point had cooked some cuisine of India in the facility. The entire building smelled of this cooking leading to a less than fully enjoyable experience.
Not the hotels fault, but the main exit for the hotel is closed, so pay attention to your GPS, or whatever you use. Front desk and service people in interacted with were all great, no real complaints. The room smelled like a musty basement, and was an instant headache as soon as we came in. It was late, and we were just staying for a night, so we opted to stick it out. I'm disabled and require a handicap accessible room, specifically for the bathroom. While sitting on the bench, you can't reach the shower controls, or the shower wand. The shower head itself was pretty gross, and it was pretty evident that the toilet hadn't been cleaned. All that being said, the biggest complaint I had, was that we couldn't fully close the curtains. Not only is it awkward being on the first floor, but the sun was directly in our faces as soon as the sun came up. All in all we got what we needed from our quick stay, but we still expected a bit more and probably won't stay here again on our travels.
Location should be a temporary 1-star because the I-90 exit is closed for maintenance until August (2024). If you stay here, make sure you follow Google Maps or Waze because you will otherwise drive right past it on the turnpike and have to double back. We had no clue about the exit being closed; doubted our GPS but it steered us right. Our second floor room had a very musty smell. Beds are comfy though. We also experienced some confusion at check-in with getting a king instead of two queens then the key not working in the new room then finding out that room was occupied. Third trip to the desk was a charm. Blue Star Diner across the street is quite good. Pork chops especially.
Place was amazing, pool was way over serviced way to much chlorine, the service was actually horrific. The lady from the front desk was annoyed just to do basic help. ( Aka we needed towels). Other than that the place was clean, had good restaurants near but, construction was annoying but nothing to do with the hotel. Over all I give it a good stop not a must stop. 6/10
Positive: Great location off toll road! We've stayed here a few times & it doesn't disappoint! Love that they don't charge extra for pets, huge PLUS!!! Always a great breakfast, coffee & staff! Negative: It's getting tired :-( Beds need replacing (our queen was defiantly at the end of it's life) Bathroom needs tic, ceiling above sink had chipped off.. Really dislike faucet in sink WAY to short, can barely get your toothbrush under it without hitting bo Negative: ""
This is a nice hotel. It is obviously tired and probably a very busy location as it is directly off the I80 Ohio turnpike not far from the Indiana & Michigan border. I think it was probably a great property in its time, but for what it is, she seems to be hanging in there. I have stayed her 3 times and am planning on returning.
This is not up to par with the newer HI Express hotels I am used to. Carpet is grosss. Rooms smell. Furniture is from the 70’s. Go further up the highway.

My sister and I had a lunch while working on a workbook together here. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We sat in the back and the lighting was not too dim but not bright at all. There were others sipping their drinks and eating without interrup
Great Mexican food. Reasonable prices. Generous portions. I randomly stopped here traveling through the area. The nachos I got were unique, called Azteca Nachos. Zucchini, Mushroom, diced Red Onions and tomatoes on top of the usual mixed protein
This was our first time eating here. They have an extensive menu. Something for just about every taste. The prices weren't terrible, so it was easy to treat the whole family. The workers are very efficient. We didn't have to wait long for our ice cre
We dined inside on Veteran's Day when Veterans received a free meal, so the restaurant was busy. That did not affect the quality of service or food we received. Everything tasted wonderful: my husband ordered a mushroom and Swiss burger with fries a
