Holiday Inn Express & Suites Michigan City, an IHG Hotel - Featured Reviews (257)
I visited Michigan City for a weekend in July 2024 and met up with a group of friends there. I spent a Friday night and a Saturday night at this Holiday Inn Express.||My check-in process went smoothly, and my room (#431) was clean and comfortable... no concerns there. I had breakfast at the hotel one of the two mornings of my stay, and it was pretty good... although they had run out of the famous cinnamon rolls that I had hoped to have.||Overall, this was one of the better Holiday Inn Expresses I'd stayed at. Unfortunately, the indoor pool doesn't have a hot tub... as many hotels are doing away with nowadays. My main complaint was that it was very expensive for what it was. (I paid probably twice as much as I should have... not sure why lodging in Michigan City was so expensive that particular weekend.)||I'd have no qualms about staying here again if I ever find myself with another need for overnight lodging in Michigan City in the future.
Overall, this place was great. Clean. Updated. Friendly. Free breakfast was surprisingly good. We would definitely stay here again.
Deducting one star for minor things in our room: body wash dispenser was empty, ice bucket was missing from our room, only one coffee cup iim room. No vanity mirror. Not a smart TV. These were just minor inconveniences. Most important, the room was comfortable and felt very safe. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay.
Unfortunately we had a problem with our room. There was an opening in the door. You could see out into the hallway & see into our room from the hallway. I spoke to the front desk & they took care of it immediately. The room was decent, but it definitely needed some updating (was were cracked, sink was cracked, ice bucket lid was broken, fridge had water underneath, etc.) Otherwise, it was a nice stay. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was good. The pool was decent. I will definitely try to stay here again, hoping I have a better experience next time.
Room is decent, nothing special for $180-250/night. Definitely one of the most overpriced hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Our room did not have a light fixture and the bulbs were exposed which looked janky, they couldn’t update the alarm clock with the updated time due to daylight savings, no extra bedding supplied for the ‘suite’ pull-out couch, made reservations for 4 people and only enough supplies for 3 people were supplied. This hotel isn’t busy, the least they can do is cater to those actually staying there. Would not stay here again for this price. Only good things about the hotel is location to Dunes National Park and the fact it’s updated, yet not completed.
The hotel is half a minute from the highway, and maybe two minutes from Interstate 94. The rooms are wonderfully quiet at night, you will sleep so well. The air conditioning is also pretty silent. It kicked in a few times at night but then made little noise and it stopped after a few minutes. ||Parking is complimentary and the parking spots are close to the entrance. I needed a bath towel because I wanted to visit Indiana Dunes National Park. Within a mile from the hotel there's a branch of Meijer and Walmart, so that was easy.||All rooms are equipped with a Keurig coffee maker and certain some rooms (like mine) have a fridge and microwave. The room was huge and the TV could be rotated in all directions, which was super handy. The sofa (bed) was not very comfortable to sit on, but there was an additional chair.||The indoor swimming pool (7 am-11 pm) has a depth that is mostly suitable for children. It feels stuffy inside and all the stainless steels in this area apparently cannot withstand all that moisture. A fitness room had about eight devices, a lot for a hotel of this size. Also in there is a guest laundry, open 24 hours. I used it, it's $5 for a wash and dry cycle.||I know there are several chain hotels of this type but I always find the breakfast at Holiday Inn Express in America the most extensive, as it was here, although they had too little fresh fruit. As I said, I wanted to visit Indiana Dunes National Park; it was only about a 10-minute drive. The closest gas station to the hotel also had the cheapest fuel in the area. When I later returned my rental car, near Chicago O’Hare I paid about a dollar extra per gallon.||I found it a five-star experience, in terms of price/quality ratio and compared to other hotels in the area that were available on the same days. I paid with IHG Rewards points. One negative: the bed is much too soft for my taste, I like firm mattresses, I often get terrible back pain when I lie on a soft mattress, as was the case here. Finally, it was also a bit of a disappointment that there were so many signs of rust in the swimming pool - for such a new hotel.
Positive: The front of house staff (day/night) were both amazing. The night gal helped me with a room correction. The day gal was very helpful with any questions or needs. Negative: No - we will stay again.
Almost everything about the facility was top notch when I recently stayed there - spotlessly clean and comfortable room with a great bed. Staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. Location was nicely removed from an otherwise congested commercial area but close enough to a variety of services and the highway.|Only disappointment was in the breakfast - seemingly subpar ingredients in cooked food with a noticeable lack of variety in other items. A glaring flaw given the other high-level features in the hotel and for the price of lodging. This needs fixing.
I had a bumpy check-in at this place. First, they informed me the reservation had been cancelled due to lack of a card on file. I had done the reservation 4 months prior, and it was paid in full, so I had to contact Hotels.com that called the property and had things sorted out. After that, I was given a wheelchair accessible room at the ground floor, and I immediately asked for a room change. I was informed that “it is the room available’.||After entering the room I realized it had a huge window facing the parking lot, so I would be bothered not only by the noise but also by the lights of cars parking right in front of the room. I’ve returned to the front desk and after claiming I’ve didn’t booked that type of room I was finally moved to a 3rd floor one, facing the back of the building.||I’m reporting the full story as it includes two tips: Unless you actually need a wheelchair accessible room, don’t get one at this hotel and two; Get a room facing the back of the building as it’s a huge vacant lot and you won’t get any noise. |Moving on from the check-in….The room is very spacious, includes all the basic amenities (fridge, microwave and coffee maker) and, interestingly, the furniture is basically the same I’ve seen at the Indianapolis HIE property, including the useful office lamp with universal plugs. ||The bathroom is spacious, the TV is big (with a reasonable selection of channels) and the only downside is the Internet speed, limited to 1Mbps.
