Holiday Inn & Suites Wausau-Rothschild, an IHG Hotel - Hotel in Rothschild - 1000 Imperial Ave, USA

First and foremost,...DO NOT STAY HERE....We stayed for two nights on 7/26 and 7/27...Our room smelled like mold/mildew strongly. When running the in wall A/C unit it became progressively worse, and it was leaking water causing the carpet to be soaked. We asked the front desk if there was anything they could do and we got told no. They were full and there was no maintenance around. We asked if they had some odor absorbers and he said no, just air freshener. Being 8 months pregnant, I was concerned about breathing the mildewy air in all night. The next day, I again asked the front desk to please do something, as I was now congested. They were busy at the time and I asked them to call me to let me know if someone would be coming to look at it. They never called. A few hours later I went back down and it was brushed off that they forgot because they're busy since they were fully booked, yet both front desk personal were just sitting at the desk when we walked down, with no guests and not on the phone. They finally had maintenance come and they cleaned the carpet and vacuumed the A/C unit, then placed a couple of fans in the room to dry things up. This didn't resolve the issue. I emailed the general manager on 7/27 about the issue and the lack of concern and action from the staff. Cindy, the general manager responded on 7/29, apologizing for the experience we had and then excusing why the A/C unit caused water and said they'd refund one night of our stay to our card. I replied to that email and she never responded. Then I asked on 7/31 when the refund would take place and she said on 8/1 that it was done last night and it would show up in a day or so. It's now 8/6 and the credit never showed up, rather, I had an additional charge for $169.12 to my card today. When I phoned and spoke with her and stated that my card was charged she put me on hold, only to come back and state that the girl did charge the card and would be refunding it "now". No apology for the error, even after explaining that this unexpected charge caused an order for my baby's car seat to not go through. No explanation as to why the refund wasn't done when she said it would be a week ago. Nothing. The staff here are unacceptable. They don't care, they are just "doing their job" and very poorly at that. Again, DO NOT STAY HERE. If you have any issue or concern, it will be excused and blown off and will be a stressful experience trying to resolve it.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Check in went quickly and we were able to check in early which made it great for us since we had been on the road for 3 1/2 hours to be in Wausau at 6 am for a job and then working a few hours. Quiet also, not going to be ashamed to say we took a nap. Hope to stay again soon.

We experienced a blowout on our motorcycle tire on I39 and had to be towed to the hotel. Consequently, our attitude at check-in was not up to par. But, Brandon got us checked in.... then relocated to a second room because of a foul odor coming from someone's room nearby (microwave dinner?). He was so calm and accommodating, I couldn't thank him enough, especially after I screwed up the keys to both rooms. The next day, Paul was also super helpful and understanding of our situation as we got the bike towed and repaired. The hotel's hot tub was by FAR the cleanest we've seen in the last 20 days on the road. The restaurant was too expensive (sides were a la carte) so we were able to walk up the street to a sports bar for dinner. We did have the TV lock up twice, but it eventually cycled its way to being back on. I only wish breakfast was included.

Post renovation visit . . . OMG ! I had the pleasure of staying at the hotel  twice in last two weeks. the renovation, now makes the hotel good, BUT... this staff  is what makes it superior. Restaurant , housekeeping, and Paul at the front desk make it happen ! This Hotel Team should be proud.

Positive: The hotel is clean and near restaurants and a movie theater. Negative: The staff member who checked us in gave us no information - not like the wifi code, check out time, etc. Then we saw the sign that the pool was closed--this is poorly hidden on their website. Pool will be closed until 4/1/24. Negative: ""

Positive: Friendly costumer service! It was clean modernized!The room had a king bed and a twin bed and a pullout build in. Which I thought was pretty awesome!It had a restaurant & pool but the hot tub wasn't working that night. Negative: I liked everything except the bed indented in and saggy and the sheets had a rough and itchy texture & pillows weren't that comfortable I couldn't sleep all through the night. Negative: ""

Loved the pool and room was clean. Restaurant food and service were really good; cocktails were even better. Wished they kept coffee filled near checkout desk in morning though. Beds were a little hard, but overall, it was a good stay and would stay again.

the hotel itself looked nice, as did the restaurant. Ana, the bartender, did a great job as she knew the menu items well. however, when you pay 180 a night for a nice hotel, you would expect that the atmosphere to be great. The hole in the wall next to the toilet and the lecture the MOD gave me on how they operate were not professional. I think he just wanted to be heard. I would not come back if I had to.
