We went to a local theatre concert that was held on the back lawn. The setting was great for this, you could walk the gardens but couldn't go inside the house. The gardens are amazing. Worth visiting just to see them! Several years back, we came here for the Victorian Funeral event, which was great fun. That time we did see the inside of the house. Definitely worth visiting!
The Historic Rosedale Ghost tour, hosted by the Charlotte Paranormal Society, was a fantastic way to kick off the ghostly and ghastly events that I have planned for October.. Our guide was incredible, her knowledge of the history of the home and the area was only surpassed by her knowledge of the paranormal. Admittedly, there were moments where even the non-believers had to admit they 'felt' something... I would HIGHLY recommend this tour!
The place was awesome. The grounds and house were great. The tour guide was great as well. All the people were very nice and friendly.. We will definitely be going back soon.
Love the history!! Our guides, Amanda and Cher were very knowledgeable, pleasant and interesting !!! The tour sets your imagination in motion.... seeing every day life as it happened 200 years ago!! I hope to visit other times of the year to enjoy the seasonal changes!!!
Catching up on reviews. I stopped by for the first time on Sunday, 05-08-22. Couldn't be with my mom for Mother's Day so I took advantage of the free admission being offered. Truly another one of Charlotte's hidden gems! I've driven by for years & couldn't believe the beauty that captivated me just beyond downtown. It was chilly that day, but the flowers in bloom warmed my heart. I was just as mesmerized by that swamp chestnut oak as I was by any tree I'd seen near Charleston. The staff was very friendly. They were eager to answer my questions and give me a great history lesson. Would definitely return.
This was such an interesting place to see. I had no idea it was haunted. If I could be brave enough I would probably go to the ghost tour, but I'm still not sure. One of the ladies had on a ghostbuster jacket so I had a sneaking suspicion. It was haunted. So I asked and they informed me that it was the doctor that used to live there, the governess, and the little girls haunt the place. And then it was confirmed by another person that was there that some of the tourists had had their hair pulled or had been pushed by one of the ghosts. One of the workers said they've even heard their name called which sounds very spooky. Great time!
A lot to explore on a small property. It cost $2 to walk the grounds, and since I am traveling with my dogs, I was only interested in walking the grounds. The house exterior is very well maintained. The gardens have 3 sections and are located to the left of the house. In the back to the left is a large covered area for events. Located in the back is the visitors center/office where you pay for admission. In the same building is where the restrooms are located. To my surprise, the ladies room is nice!!! Probably because they do special events, like wedding there. To the right of the house is a nice trail through a small arboretum. There is also a blacksmith house with an exhibit to the right place f the house where the parking area is. I visited this day, January. I am sure the property looks even more beautiful in the Spring to Fall. There are some flowering trees/bushes when I visited. In addition to the admission fee, you can make a donation to help maintain the property. The donation box is located on the counter where you pay your admission fee. If no one is there, you can pay your fee using the envelopes hanging in the door of the visitors center. Please bring cash, just in case. I really enjoyed my walk around the property. I walked a little over a mile around the entire property included the trails.
Very neat place to take kids to learn about history of the area and how some people lived in the 1800's. This is a self guided tour, where you walk through the house from the basement all the way to the attic. The tour guides were very helpful and were able to provide a lot of information. It will only take about an hour to get through.
