Excellent hotel for lone travelers or couples visiting with families. The lobby provided a place to work and unwind, and it had pleasant outdoor seating. The rooms were cleaned every day. We had an on-site restaurant that served both breakfast and dinner. Happy hour is held every day from 2 to 5 p.m. Our family had a great time lounging by the pool and enjoying reasonably priced food and beverages. returned every day to a spotlessly clean room; the microwave and refrigerator worked well since we were able to prepare some meals in our room while we were away. The location is excellent for dining, but not so much for the beach. It is a short walk—roughly a half-mile—but not very far. We had dinner at Goofy's, which was two blocks away, and the food was excellent. We really liked that we could always fill up our water bottles at the lobby water refill station. will be returning to this location in the future. The gym's size is a little tight, so if you like to work out in the morning, I advise arriving before 8 AM.

We stayed here on a special from Hilton, offering us the option to purchase into their grand vacation club. Quite honestly, if they wanted us to buy in then they should have placed us in a different hotel. This hotel is in desperate need of room updates. They have shutters in the bathroom dividing it from the bedroom which amounts to zero privacy when in the bathroom. The sink is so shallow that you got sprayed with water every time you used the sink no matter how low the water flow was. They have much outdated platform beds that were horribly uncomfortable not to mention that I hit my leg on the corner a few times. There was only one chair in the room and it was so low to the ground it was hard to get out of. The lighting is dim and depressing.|On a positive note, the breakfast choice, price and taste was excellent. The waitstaff was great. The bartenders at the pool were awesome too! The front desk staff not so friendly.|I did a review when we left and management replied that they will be renovating this hotel next year. This if good news and much needed.

This place made feel old. I remember when it was new and cool, but now it’s looking a little worn around the edges. The fixtures in the room, like the bed frames and lamp shades need to be updated as they are stained and falling apart. We had to be moved from the first room because it was next to elevator and you could hear the elevator engine every five seconds. The second room was fine. The best part about this hotel are the two pools. Staying in the rooms is kind of mid. I have a feeling they are trying to phase this hotel out.

We have been a loyal Hilton Honors member and customer. Out of all of the many hotels we have stayed, we will NEVER stay at Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu again. We recommend no one does. There are too many other options and this place lured us into staying there because it appears to be renovated but it’s only about 50% there. It needs major improvements to the sound barrier and key security system. For 8 nights, we endured room 1530: - Having our faces blasted with the air conditioning vent - You can hear the people next door and street noise all night because the rooms and slider isn’t insulated. - The worst bed (felt like a box spring) on a platform that allows for you to trip over due to the overhang. - Poorly designed bathroom with shutter vents (instead of actual walls) that gives zero privacy. - Broken refrigerator - Rusted seating on balcony "- Free water" was expired for 3 weeks - Small pool (there are two but both are overcrowded during holiday season) - Constant sound of the elevator despite being almost 5 rooms away - The WORST situation: locked out of room and parking daily due to inadequate magnetic room key functionality. Most annoying was that the front desk employees were trained to blame the customers by saying that we “must have demagnetized them by putting them next to our phones”. After the third night, finally waiting in line hearing other people complain, someone said that they are aware of the “outdated” key system. They said management won’t listen to them and we needed to leave a review. Here we are. Upon check out, we told them our displeasure and they said, “oh yeah, I know that room and it’s bad”. I’m glad that we spent a $35 per day resort fee and $35 per day self parking so add $70+tax to your per room cost. The only positive thing is the few days that the restaurant was open, we had breakfast and there was the nicest guy at the counter taking our order. He needs to find another employer. This place doesn’t deserve him.

First off, the service and staff at this hotel is phenomenal. They were quick to meet every need during our family’s 2.5 week-long stay. The location is great for Waikiki; it’s not in the chaos of the Hilton Village and the hotel was a nice retreat from the crowds, albeit a very short walk (less than 5 minutes) to the lagoon, beach, restaurants, shops, and about a 15-minute walk to the mall. The room was an incredible issue for us during our stay. It is simply not suitable for a family and especially not for young children or babies. As others have stated, there is zero privacy or sound/light barrier between the bathroom and room, and the switches are on the outside, so if someone needs to use lights at night, a phone flashlight will have to do. This made sleep difficult for our 10-month-old, who was easily awoken by the sliding door and sounds from the bathroom. The bathroom also only had one towel hook which was inconvenient. The platform bed was loud and way too firm; my hips and shoulders were aching every morning. The sides of the bed were also a hazard for our baby. The carpets were filthy, as if they hadn’t been steam cleaned in years. Our baby’s toes were black after crawling around for 10 minutes. The room is definitely nowhere near blackout and the patio doors do not block out city sounds, and there are a lot (sirens consistently all night long). We could also hear the elevator running 24/7 from our room and we were 2 doors down. Great hotel atmosphere and location, but it’s clear that style came above substance with the design of the rooms. Probably wouldn’t stay here again unless it was for a couple nights.

The staff members here were very pleasant and helpful. |Parking was tricky, and originally, we weren't told about an overflow lot, but that was rectified. |The rooms are a little small, but clean. However, I would never get bed frames like these. Each of us hit a foot or ankle as the frames stick out quite a bit from the mattresses and box springs. It's a style, but that was a big negative.|The shower was a bit of an issue. There was no soap when we arrived as they use those bottles that are attached to the wall and evidently don't check them between guests. There was no bench or even corner of a tub to put up a leg for shaving, and no safety bar to grab while balancing on one leg with a sharp razor. The water pressure was good, though. |A previous occupant had set the alarm clock, which woke us way too early, especially given the time change. Staff should be familiar with the clocks and how they work and routinely check them when they clean the rooms. We never dreamed one would be pre-set. |Service wasn't daily. We didn't get clean towels every day, for example. That would be fine if there was enough space to spread out the towels after each use, but there wasn't. They stayed damp between each use and got a little smelly after a couple days. It's not that pleasant to try to dry off with a damp towel, either. The hooks didn't allow the towels to dry completely, unfortunately.|The toilet paper roll was awkwardly placed, and the paper rubbed against the wall and side of the toilet when full. Not sure how sanitary that is.|I'd book a room away from the elevators. The elevators were noisy. We weren't close to them, and we could still hear them. But I will say that the wait for an elevator was short, and they moved quickly and smoothly.|Overall, we liked the staff a great deal but weren't thrilled with the rooms. They were standard and meh.

I recently stayed at The Modern Honolulu by Hilton from August 29 to September 5, and overall, I was quite disappointed with the amenities and the overall experience. To start, the "adults-only" pool is extremely misleading. It’s not much more than a splash pad—a couple of inches deep at best. Moreover, there is no functioning bar there, so if you’re hoping to relax with a drink in hand, you’ll need to go downstairs to the main pool. Another inconvenience was the closure of the restrooms on the second floor. Guests were forced to go downstairs to use the washroom at the main pool, which is an unnecessary hassle. While I was aware that the resort wasn’t directly on the beach, I was disappointed to find that they don’t offer any provisions for beach services—no lounge chairs, umbrellas, or any other amenities for guests. It seems like such a basic service for a resort, especially one with Hilton’s reputation. A major letdown was the poolside dining policy. My partner and I brought a bottle of champagne to enjoy by the pool, but were told we couldn’t drink it there. Only food and beverages purchased from their Grove Restaurant and Bar were allowed. While I understand the need for the resort to generate revenue, this policy felt extreme and off-putting, especially at a leisure-focused property. The room itself also had multiple issues. The mini fridge door was broken and needed repair, and the room safe malfunctioned, locking us out. After a technician opened it, we weren’t able to use it for the rest of our stay. The bathroom was another point of concern—there were wooden windows that didn’t fully close, and the sliding door lacked a lock, offering very little privacy. On the positive side, the bed and mattress were comfortable, which did provide a good night’s rest despite the other inconveniences. In terms of amenities, the gym and fitness centre left much to be desired. It’s incredibly small, with only one bench, making it difficult to get a proper workout in, especially in the mornings when several people were using it at the same time. The main pool did offer some happy hour snacks, and while the burger was a smaller version of their regular offering, I must say it was quite tasty—probably one of the few highlights of the stay. The final straw was their refusal to grant a reasonable late checkout, despite our 7-night stay and a much later flight back to Toronto. After a week at the hotel, the inflexibility was disappointing and left a sour note to the end of our stay. Overall, I would not recommend staying here. The amenities fall far short of expectations, especially for a resort of this calibre, and there are far better options available closer to the beach and city attractions. I won’t be returning to The Modern Honolulu.
