We were only there for an overnight stay, so this place was sufficient for that purpose. I was hoping for a "kamaaina" upgrade since the place seemed mostly empty, but nope, no aloha here for anything free, lol. Easy parking in front, and the ocean view (no balcony) room was quite large. There was no fridge, so that was a minus for me because I like to keep my bottled water cold. The room is a tad worn, but not bad. There was plenty of space for hanging our overnight clothes and carry on. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the bedside tables were a bit far from the bed by about at least five inches. So I had to stretch to reach the items left on it. Although the lamp had a plug in for my mobile, I couldn't plug it in so I had to use the standard outlet and leave my mobile on the floor while it charged. We went to the lounge which was okay. The view was beautiful and the drinks were pretty good, but the poke tasted like previously frozen fish so my partner didn't care for it. ||So overall, it was okay.
My fiance and I enjoyed every bit of our stay over at this hotel. The front desk let us know that the hotel was currently updating its rooms and it showed. We had a stunning view from our Delux Ocean Front room complete with private balcony. The front desk clerks were all friendly and helpful. We were looking for places to eat and explore and everyone we spoke to had wonderful suggestions. To name a few, the clerk Lynol was exceptional at what he did. He was quick to call housekeeping when we needed extra amenities. Im not sure why people have written such negative reviews. One thing tourists and travelers need to keep in mind is when they come to Hawaii, things dont always work like on the mainland. Demanding answers immediately and complaining about the island people live on simply because there isnt everything they have elsewhere wont help their situation. Being borderline verbally abusive to hotel employees is not something you should be allowed to do just because it is your vacation. I get they are paying customers but a little willingness to take a breath and recognize Hawaiian time is also a thing makes it easier on everyone. The staff were all full of Aloha and we were so grateful for that. Also, the Miso Butterfish in the Steakhouse was fantastic. Worth every penny.
Paid around $900 for 2 nights at an ocean view suite over 7 months ago through capital one venture x. We check in and find there is no balcony (specifically picked ocean view suite for this). The room smells like old cigarettes and is falling apart. We have a wonderful view of an abandoned building. They can't change the room or comp anything because it's through capital one. When we finally get in touch with capital one, they are able to cancel the second night (we didn't want to stay anymore) and change the room for the first night. Second room is definitely better, just smells like an indoor pool. I'm sure there are better rooms here, but we were just really put off by this first impression after 12 hours of flying and 2 hours of driving. Everyone other than front desk staff was really friendly (thanks Milton!).

Excellent service at the desk or restaurant. Comps like free mai tai and bento box for breakfast are appreciated. You might want an extra box to take along as you drive around the area. The oceanfront rooms are a bit more expensive but absolutely worth the upgrade with a great view of the shoreline and bay.
We initially made reservations for 7 nights, but we extended our stay for 3 more nights. We met some of the most hard-working, kind, and dedicated staff. They made it easier for us to extend our reservations. Milton, the front desk manager, blessed us with exceptional customer service. There was a miscommunication with the cleaning staff, but Milton listened and provided a solution right away. We were also grateful, he worked it out for us to stay in the same room!
Ashton and Keanan were always ready to help us with our bags when we got back from our activities! We appreciated their kindness every time.
We had a premium, ocean front room on the 8th floor. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the spectacular view of Hilo Bay every morning. My mother truly enjoyed the rain and all the nearby activities to do in Hilo. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a wonderful and blessed time. We will be back soon!
The place is an absolute DUMP. Ice pieces from machine had black spots (mold?). Carpet was soaked where that machine was leaking. The room had cuts in the curtain to the balcony. The room smelled very old and had DROOPING wallpaper (maybe water damage behind?) Sit on the toilet and the tank top bounces up and slams back down. Took 6 minutes for the bathroom sink water to get hot (shower was fine). Their "continental breakfast" had some sugar dough balls, a pot of open oatmeal, oranges and melon-all of which were being visited by FLIES. The only place to grab a decent bite was the WSW steakhouse in the hotel that also served breakfast. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Nice hotel in Hilo! I would definitely stay again. Good restaurants in walking distance, close to the airport and a short drive to many of the nearby attractions. Staff was friendly and helpful and restaurant was nice. The view from our room was very pretty!
