Hickory Aviation Museum - Museum in Hickory - 3101 9th Ave Dr NW, USA

This was a great way to spend time with my elderly father, an Army vet born in 1939, who was visiting from out of town. You can take your time reading and looking at the informational exhibits that are indoors, then head outside and climb into a plane and imagine what it was like to be on board. It was interesting to read about each plane as you are standing in front of it. And because this museum is inside the airport, you can watch takeoffs and landings while enjoying the museum adding to the overall experience along with the beautiful mountain views. Plan on about an hour.

Great place to check out some old aircrafts. The museum inside is full of cool and interesting information. Getting to walk outside and seeing the airplanes is the icing on the cake. And best of all... its free. But you can donate. Must see

Excellent Aviation museum located at Hickory Regional Airport. Currently in the process of expanding to a new hangar where the aircraft will be protected from the elements. Run by volunteers who worked on these planes during their time in the military. Some true treasures of Naval Aviation can be visited. Worth the time. Entrance is free but I was happy to leave a donation.

The largest aviation museum in NC it is not, but this fun little spot is worth the time to visit for all military aviation enthusiasts. You’ll see decommissioned planes that are unusual for these types of spaces and the very friendly volunteers are quite knowledgeable. There is a cute little cafe at the other end of the terminal, but it has closed by the time we arrived. For my 10 year-old son, visiting around 2pm on a hot Summer Thursday was well worth the time. He basically got a private tour and was thrilled!!

Great find! Staff and volunteers were very knowledgeable and happy to share information on the planes. Neat little place that definitely deserves a stop!

It is a small but very informative museum and was surprised by there being so many local residents that were aviators. Enjoyed my visit. Donations are acceptable and appreciated.

This place is pretty cool. I loved being here. They've got memorabilia from lots of different missions and times in history, including things about Pearl Harbor. Seeing all the old planes is a really cool experience, and getting to tour the inside of the one that was used to seek out submarines was nice as well. The guide was very nice and detailed in his explanations of how everything on the plane would have worked or been used. There are placards in front of the planes with very detailed information on each plane. You can also watch small planes take off and land since it's got a functional runway. Overall, 10/10 experience.
