This place was nasty! We stayed in room 157 on 10/14/23. When we arrived the hostess was busy with her phone, check in was quick and easy once I got her attention. When we got to the room it smelled terrible and very musty. It only got worse from there, as I was arranging the bed I noticed a long dark brown hair on the pillow, and it was wrinkled in a way it had definitely been used, so I grabbed the other pillow... more hair it was clear none of the sheets had been laundered since the previous guest! Then my companion moved the curtain and there were dirty socks in the floor. We both slept on top of the beds, and were happy we were only there for 1 night. I would not recommend this place to anyone! The restaurant was decent even if not what was expected. It's a small buffet style.

Stayed in the winter, very good rate due to slow season. The only thing I'd complain about was that the rooms definitely need updating. The water heaters make semi warm water but not hot water. And that sucked when it was 29°out. Heater in the room was okay at best. Location of lodge is amazing, view is great, enjoyed the restaurant. But do wish the lodge itself had more to offer in the way of things to do and nature engagement seeing as it is a nature lodge. I'll be staying again but hopefully after the news of an update to the rooms. C'mon guys. Enough people read this and are saying the same thing. It's just costing you money to not pay for the updates now. It's not 1971 anymore.

Really nice staff. Jesse in the lounge was a very cool bartender that really helped me with the bourbon tasting. I was here off season and my group of 4 wheelers had a great experience

Room was pretty clean (4/5) but had a maintenance issue. We enjoyed the balcony. Common areas in the lodge were in great shape, with historic character and charm. The pool could use some TLC, but was otherwise nice. We enjoyed watching the turtles in the water surrounding the pool area. My daughter participated in one of the resort activities (tie-dye). Would have liked to do more resort activities, but we had a pretty busy weekend.

We arrived at Hemlock Lodge on 11/22/23 to do an overnight backpacking trip in Red River Gorge. There was an overall charm to the older look of the lodge, once we arrived, although that quickly changed once we walked into our room. There was rust in the bath tub and fixtures around the room were either loose or completely missing. There was no hot water and the heat to the room never kicked on. It was a very cold night for us. I talked to the front desk the next morning, and she informed us that the heat to the room was never turned on (she clicked a button on her system after that) and she informed us that the water isn't hot due to there being a bunch of people in the hotel. That didn't make very much sense, being a hotel. Right before we left, I checked and the heat to the room never came on. We really wanted to like the lodge, but it was a pretty rough stay for us.

The room was a bit humid and a/c didn't turn down anymore then 72 which would be fine normally but couldn't get the fan to even turn on so it was pretty sticky in our room. The bed was comfortable, the deck was spacious and had a pretty view. The restaurant and bar area were closed the night we were there, but breakfast in the morning was nice. Basic hotel complimentary breakfast, waffles, eggs, meats. But lots of tables and coffee was better than most hotels. The pool closed pretty early considering you can't check in til 4pm and it closed at 7pm. The kids didn't get a chance to swim after a lot of hours in the car so that was a bummer. But we would stay again for sure. The picture is from our patio.

We love this resort, overall… The service was a little lacking, but most of the people that work here are very young. We had a major issue with our air-conditioning and was up the better part of the night dealing with it, and was made kind of to feel that we just couldn’t figure it out. Even the maintenance man said that it was not working properly but still, we got a little gaslighted… but the location is perfect, the pool is beautiful although the maintenance could be improved. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are super comfortable, but the showers are a little gross. There’s a lot of humidity here so I get that it’s a little hard to keep up with the rust and the moisture, but still a little extra cleaning would clean up a lot. We ate at the Buffet, which apparently is only on the weekends and although limited, the salad bar was very fresh. A nice surprise was the extra nice continental breakfast with sausage, biscuits, waffles, etc. and it was on the house. Nearby hiking trails are fabulous and you don’t have to leave the hotel to get there. Overall we will be regulars at this place and the price is certainly right!
