Heartland Inn - Hotel in Coralville - 87 2nd St, USA

We came to this hotel because my father in law was in the University of Iowa hospital. It was a great hotel for us and we were there almost three weeks. Not only do we not have any complaints, but we are mystified by some of the negative reviews. Heartland Inn gave us a discounted hospital rate, which really helped us out for such a lengthy stay. We also took advantage of the free breakfast. The eggs and sausages were very good plus there was a variety of breads, yogurts, fruits and cereals. The staff members at breakfast were hard working and polite. Most mornings I was asked if I would like a waffle and the staff member would make it for me. Because we did not know how long my FIL would be hospitalized, the front desk allowed us to add on one or two days at a time to our stay. We were able to stay in the same room which was helpful and we appreciated it, especially considering that we were only extending our visit by a day at a time. I’m sorry I did not learn the lady’s name at the front desk in the mornings, but she was very nice and helpful and concerned for us. We did not take advantage of the free dinners, but again it was a nice option as well as was the free shuttle for saving money at a time in your life where things are uncertain and you are incurring unexpected expenses. Our room was cleaned almost every day. Our beds were made and we had clean towels. We couldn’t have asked for a better hotel to stay at during this difficult time in our lives and we appreciate all the staff at the Heartland Inn.

I have horrible eyesight. So if I can see the little black hairs all around the white bathtub, the cleaners should be able too! I'm sure this won't be the only thing I notice praying the beds are kept better than the easy to clean bathrooms. May have an update on them tbd. Update** As promised there is more. The place also has a roach infestation and at this point from the reviews I just read. I'm sure the bedbug are also present as it can take days for signs of bites to appear on someone... I sure hope I was lucky enough to avoid them will be taking proper measures with my clothes... the amount of money someone is charged to be here they shouldn't have a problem controlling pests. Disgusting!

I’ve been staying here for the last 4 months because my son was born at 23 weeks and the only reason I choose to stay here is the conveniency of the shuttles. Unfortunately they are anything but convenient, they say the shuttle leaves at 20 and 50 of every hour but they leave whenever they please really. I’ve requested a shuttle to pick me up from the children’s hospital and was told the bus would leave to get me at 6:50 it’s a 3-5 minute drive at least so how did I already miss the bus if I was outside at 49? Crazy and it’s a daily issue

Free shuttle to hospitals. Rooms are ok. They serve a supper but I've never really enjoyed it, it's free though. My big complaint is the with the woman that does the breakfast. She is rude. She had really watery eggs and the sausage was cooking in deep grease. My wife told her the waffle batter was low and she started to almost scold her in Spanish. At that point I had to step in and forcefully say we don't speak that. She was slamming things around through out the breakfast time. The night before she was talking in Spanish to another Hispanic worker. She doesn't seem to respect our country or people.

Room was decent for the price also included wonderful shuttle service and adequately filling breakfast lunch and dinner. I had the unfortunate well misfortune of coming across the night front desk attendant. This individual refused to answer phone and refused the basics in customer service. I called multiple times after becoming frustrated I decided to go down stairs and ask for his name and employee id number which he refused and started screaming and threatening to actually hurt me.

If you care about a working TV, cleanliness, and non drippy eggs, just skip this one- Or definitely skip room 308. I stayed here over the weekend and jail might have been better. 😂 Just kidding- this place was slightly better than jail, but the food was sub par and the staff wasn’t helpful. When I checked in at 5:15 pm, the woman at the desk didn’t acknowledge me or my father standing there for at least a minute and when I informed them that the tv didn’t work, they immediately asked if I wanted to switch rooms. I said yes and nothing was available. On Saturday night, an employee came to my room to try to help but made it worse. She said she would bring help, but she brought a “part time hotel resident” that I would have preferred didn’t enter my room. The resident unplugged everything and then plugged it in and said I should have brought a Roku. Who brings a Roku to a weekend hotel stay? And what employee allows a guest to enter another guest’s room? Bugs are a concern. Mattress was filthy. There are plenty of better options.

Goes for any hotel really but. Watch for bed bugs!! First room, found them instantly. Dead one on the baseboard, and black markings on the mattress protectors. Got moved to the room next door, found more markings(pictured) on that bed too. No mattress protectors in that room. Bummed since I came here for a class. Didn’t stay and now have to hope the school will refund me :(

Our stay at Heartland Inn began in 2019. My wife was in Iowa City for medical reasons. We had stayed there for about 2 1/2 months, and we were treated like royalty by Ms Deb and her staff at the time, and we appreciated them all for their services. We have come back since then for medical appointments and check ups. I want to give a shout out to Dave Helmuth and his staff, Dave has been with us from Day 1 (2019). He is still doing an awesome job and we still have been treated as royalty by his staff, so I write this review with great enthusiasm, we appreciate our Heartland family and appreciate all that they do. Dave you are awesome and the best in our view. The shuttle is a life saver. Just want to say I wouldn't stay no where else. This is our home away from home, when we come to Iowa City. Dave thank you for all you do.
