This is the most amazing place to stay for our visit to my home town Newport. I am a "5th Warder" as are Terri & Mike, who lived across the street from me when we were kids. Their hospitality, warmth and kindness went beyond anything I expected. Our accommodations were impeccable, beautifully decorated and supplied with everything needed for a wonderful stay in Newport. The location was perfect for going to "the Goose" [Gooseberry Beach] and for seeing all the sights that Newport has to offer. This will always be my first choice when going "back home".
5 stars all around! Mike and Terri (hosts of Hawthorne House of Newport) truly go above and beyond to ensure a wonderful stay in Newport. My family (partner and 2 young kids) have been visiting each summer for the past several years and will continue to do so. We feel lucky to have found this gem and would recommend it without reservation to anyone - especially families - looking for a wonderful place to stay in Newport that's close to everything but still peaceful and quiet.
My fiancé, dog, and I stayed at Hawthorne House for a quick two-night getaway from NYC. We wanted a quiet place where we could relax but was also close to the Newport attractions. Hawthorne House was just that. It was such a lovely place to stay and Terri and Mike were so great, extremely accommodating, so friendly. They allowed us to bring our big (sometimes well-behaved) dog and they have a very large backyard with a park across the street. They had stocked the kitchen with a variety of cereal, milk, OJ, water bottles, English muffins, cookies, etc.
The home is about a mile from downtown so with good weather, you could easily walk. We did the Cliff Walk, which Mike recommended and it was not far from the house at all. We had such a great stay, we’ll be back again for sure!

We've stayed here twice, and both vacations were wonderful. Most recently we came to Newport for the Jazz Festival. Our flight was delayed, and Mike picked us up from the airport. What a relief! The kitchen area is well stocked with breakfast items and cold beverages. If you have a sweet tooth, you will enjoy the cookies and banana bread. Our daughter had the room with the sofa bed, and our bedroom had plenty of room with a good sized closet and access to the deck. Terri & Mike provided everything for our day at the beach too. The location is quiet, but central to the cliff walk, mansions, and the fort where the Jazz Festival is staged. The rental is lovely, and Terri and Mike are AMAZING! The only place we plan to stay when we are in Newport.
Wonderful accommodations for our toddler, my husband, and me. Our hosts, Terri and Mike had toys, treats, and a kiddie pool ready to go for our toddler (which was a pleasant surprise and much appreciated!). Terri and Mike were very responsive to our inquiries and attentive to our needs. The accommodations are a short distance from a variety of Newport attractions and a great location for a tumbling toddler who had a large backyard to romp around in, as well as a couple decent playgrounds (and the beach!) within walking distance. Many thanks for a great stay! We hope to be back during our next visit to Newport.
Spent Easter weekend in Newport at the Hawthorne House with Terri and Mike and can't say enough about the experience! This was our second visit, the first 6 years ago, and it again exceeded our expectations. The apartment is separate from the house for privacy but there is still a nice deck and a spacious yard to enjoy. The apartment is stocked with everything you could ever need and more! Terri and Mike are very friendly, even inviting us into their home and allowing our 15 year old dog to visit them on Easter, while we left for brunch! Very kind hosts, very clean and comfortable accommodations and an amazing location. thank you for a great Easter!
Hawthorne House is now our favorite place to stay in Newport! The accommodations were comfortable, the suite was immaculate, and the location ideal. We appreciated the stocked refrigerator with water, juices, and milk along with the special treats that greeted us upon arrival and throughout our stay. Michael and Terri were excellent hosts and made all members of our family feel comfortable. Looking forward to our next visit.
We recently enjoyed a 4 night stay at the Hawthorne House of Newport, Rhode Island. The accommodations are spotless, comfortable and Terri & Mike Fitch are accommodating in every way. As lifelong residents of Newport they are knowledgeable about the area and offered perfect suggestions of things to do, places to see and dine (Anthony's was a recommendation for scallops and they were the best we ever tasted!!!) Terri & Mike excel in hospitality (welcoming with homemade banana bread, cookies, cheese, fruit and cereals, milk, OJ) and willing to do whatever was needed to make our stay perfect and perfect it was! Our poodle, Buddy, was welcomed with warmth as they are also animal lovers. We highly recommend a stay at the Hawthorne House; we arrived as strangers and left feeling like a part of a warm and loving family.
